Children participate in a variety of educational activities. Children also receive free medical and dental care, healthy meals and snacks and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe environment. Family Service Workers also assist families to improve their quality of life. Families receive training and information regarding community resources. All classes are now full day. KI BOIS Head Start partners with many public schools to provide pre-school programs for all four-year-old children of the community. KI BOIS Community Action Head Start is federally funded to serve 1471 Head Start children. Haskell, Latimer, LeFlore and Pittsburg counties serve 893 of those children in 54 classroom at 23 centers. The 578 remaining children are located in Adair, Cherokee, McIntosh and Sequoyah Counties in 35 classroom at 18 centers. Approximately 85 addi- tional pre-school children are also served. We are also working on a new program, Early Head Start, which allows us to serve 16 infants, toddlers or pregnant mothers in Sallisaw. KI BOIS Head Start North (06CH7060) had Federal Monitoring Reviews in 2014-15 n the following areas:

CLASS OBSERVATION - KI BOIS North Scores in each Domain were above required scores. However, KI BOIS North scores were in the lowest 10% nationwide. Head Start North was required to compete for refunding last year. KI BOIS Head Start was awarded the grant effective July 2017.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY - Each center in the KI BOIS North area was visited by consultants, No areas of non-compliance were found.

FISCAL/ERSEA (Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment and Attendance) -Monitors reviewed Fiscal operations and documentation. They also reviewed children’s files. No areas of non-compliance were found.

KI BOIS North and South were both monitored in Leadership, Governance, Management Systems and Comprehensive Services and School Readiness last year. No areas of non-compliance were found.

The percentage of enrolled children that received medical and dental exams: Information about parent involvement activities

Parent meetings were held at each center on a monthly basis. Parent training meetings were held throughout the year concerning Mental Health, Nutrition, Child Development and Parenting Skills.

The agency’s efforts to prepare children for kindergarten Transition agreements were sent to each public school in the KI BOIS Community Action area. Transition activities are imple-mented at each center for children and parents to acquaint them with their kindergarten, including parent meetings, field trips to public schools and adventures on the school bus.
