Kentucky LakeThe second largest man-made lake in the U.S. islocated on the border of Henry County and defineswater fun. The beauty of Kentucky lake is anattraction in itself! Add the skiing, boating, fishingand swimming and you have found the best placefor fun in the sun! Kentucky Lake encompassesnearly 160,000 acres and has 2,380 miles ofshoreline. The lake is surrounded by resorts,marinasand restaurants. An entire vacation can be spent onour Kentucky Lake!

Tennessee NationalWildlife RefugeContaining over 51,000 acres, this refuge is locatedOn and around Kentucky Lake in NorthwestTennessee. Established in 1945, the refuge ismanaged by the U.S. Fish andWildlife Service. Thenew refuge Visitor Center is located in Henry Countyand is open Monday- Saturday 8-4.For information call 731-642-2091.

Paris Landing State Park841 acre park located on the western shore of theTennessee River, which is dammed to form KentuckyLake (160,000 acres). The park sits on the widest partof the lake making it the perfect location for allwater sports such as fishing, boating, swimming andwaterskiing. On and, there are plenty of activitiesincluding golfing, hiking, camping or just relaxingand enjoying the natural beauty and wildlife. Be onthe lookout for deer, turkey, fox and coyote thatroam the park. Eagles are often seen in the wintermonths. Fishing at its finest is found on beautifulKentucky Lake and the park is equipped with onefishing pier. There are more than 100 species of fishscattered over broad expanses of fresh water andcan be found in hundreds of secluded coves.

Paris Landing State Park has a public swimming areaand beach on Kentucky Lake with picnic area andrestrooms nearby. The park also has an Olympic-sizepublic swimming pool with a children's pool. Thepublic pool is open fromMemorial Day until the firstweek of August. The pool complex features a white-sand beach volleyball court, two diving boards and asnack bar.

Paris Landing State Park841 acre park located on the western shore of theTennessee River, which is dammed to form KentuckyLake (160,000 acres). The park sits on the widest partof the lake making it the perfect location for allwater sports such as fishing, boating, swimming andwaterskiing. On and, there are plenty of activitiesincluding golfing, hiking, camping or just relaxingand enjoying the natural beauty and wildlife. Be onthe lookout for deer, turkey, fox and coyote thatroam the park. Eagles are often seen in the wintermonths. Fishing at its finest is found on beautifulKentucky Lake and the park is equipped with onefishing pier. Paris City CemeteryThe historic City Cemetery, located three blocksfrom the Courthouse, illustrates the earlysettlement history of Paris. The iron fence alongthe front originally surrounded the courthouse.Simple rectangular stones inscribed CSA markseveral Confederate veterans’ graves. Confederateofficer and Tennessee governor James D. Porter isburied here, as well as General John D.C. Atkins,who was the only elected official to serve as both aConfederate and US Congressman.The EW Grovefamily is buried near the entrance. One sizablecorner of cemetery was for the burial of AfricanAmericans, but few grave markers remain. TheseHenry Countians are commemorated with theAfrican-American Memorial Monument.

Grove TowerGrove Boulevard. – Paris, TNCalled “the school that came from a bottle,”GroveTower originally housed the E.W. Grove-HenryCounty High School. Grove Tower is located onGrove Boulevard, at the highest elevation point inWest Tennessee.

The EW Grove LegacyIn 1877 a youngmanmoved to town, became a clerk,and eventually a pharmacist on the court square(118WestWashington). The man’s name was EdwinWiley Grove. He was in his mid-twenties when hebought the pharmacy, and was just barely scrapingby, but he had an idea, and it was a great one.Back in that time,malaria, a disease carried bymosquitoes,was rampant in hot and humidclimates. The only known treatment was quinine,however it was so bitter that many patientspreferred the disease to themedicine! Enter Grove’sTasteless Chill Tonic. It was this fortune thatendowed the first public high school in HenryCounty. Standing on the Courthouse lawn, look tothe southwest and Grove Tower peeks through thetrees.

Robert E. Lee Academyfor the Fine ArtsThe Robert E. Lee School hasserved the community sincethe 1800s. Generations ofchildren spent their daysreading,writing, laughing andplaying in the largeclassrooms, lunchroom andplayground.
