Be Content, Don't Grumble

So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to drink?"

百 姓 就 向 摩 西 发 怨 言 ， 说 ： 我 们 喝 甚 麽 呢 ？Exodus 15:24

2And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness!

以 色 列 众 人 向 摩 西 、 亚 伦 发 怨 言 ； 全 会 众 对 他 们 说 ： 巴 不 得 我 们 早 死 在 埃 及 地 ， 或 是 死 在 这 旷 野 。

Numbers 14:2,

27How long will this evil congregation murmur against Me? I have heard the complaints the Israelites murmur against Me.

28Tell them, As I live, says the Lord, what you have said in My hearing I will do to you:

29Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness--of all who were numbered of you, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against Me,

30Surely none shall come into the land in which I swore to make you dwell, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

31But your little ones whom you said would be a prey, them will I bring in and they shall know the land which you have despised and rejected. 32But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.

33And your children shall be wanderers and shepherds in the wilderness for forty years and shall suffer for your whoredoms (your infidelity to your espoused God), until your corpses are consumed in the wilderness.

34After the number of the days in which you spied out the land [of Canaan], even forty days, for each day a year shall you bear and suffer for your iniquities, even for forty years, and you shall know My displeasure [the revoking of My promise and My estrangement].

35I the Lord have spoken; surely this will I do to all this evil congregation who is gathered together against Me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed [by war, disease, plagues], and here they shall die.

From this passage you can see that God does not like it when people grumble or complain. He wants us to be happy, and content. But the only way we can

be truly happy and content is to put Him first. Not our selfish desires or material treasures. These things cannot give us happiness. God truly loves us, and does not want to see us sad. But we must also trust in Him, even

during the really tough times.

The Bible says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops

perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (James 1:2-4).

This week, let's remember to thank God for all He does for us. Now we are going to have a little game, to review the past five weeks.
