MORE ABOUT MY COUNTRY
The Sino-Nepal Friendship Bridge is a bridge which links
Kodari in Sindhupalchowk district, Nepal and Zhangmu, China. It
crosses the Bhote Koshi River of Nepal. From the bridge on the Nepalese side, the Arniko Highway links to Kathmandu. In the other direction, the China National Highway 318 goes to Zhangmu and on to Shanghai.
The Spiny Babbler (Turdoides Nipalensis; Nepali: Kandebhyakur) is a species of bird in the Timalliidae family that is only found in Nepal.
Bungee jump at The Last Resort in Nepal is the longest Free-fall in the world which drops into the Bhote Koshi gorge on the Nepal/Tibet border. It is situated 160m (520 feet) over the river.
Nepal lies at roughly the same
latitude as Saudi Arabia or Florida. Due to its extreme topography, however, our country
has a much wider range of climate zone than
those places.

Picnic matThe mat is bound to get dirty because it is a picnic! So, pick a mat that isn’t too light in color so that you can just dust it and roll it up after the picnic.
BasketThe basket should be big enough to accommodate all the food. You don’t want to be carrying too many things wrapped up in your arms and dropping them around. Carry an extra bag if some of the stuff doesn’t fit in the basket.
FoodTake foods that are tasty when cold. Pack light snacks in zip lock bags or paper
bags, that way you can eat without utensils. Sandwiches, patties, brownies are convenient to eat as your hands don’t get too messy.
BeverageA large bottle of water is an essential part of the picnic basket. Also throw in some small bottles of juice for each of the people in the picnic group.
GamesSome fun games can involve the whole family or the games can be played in groups. Since picnics mean large, open green-spaces, pick games that make

the most of the space. Pack frisbees, a football, badminton racquets, if you want some sit-down games carry your pack of Uno cards as well.
A garbage bagWe all want to eat in a clean spot. So cleaning up before and after is important. It’s a good idea
to make the extra effort to pick up stray plastic bags and wrappers.
Also packPaper napkins, a light blanket, hats, sunscreen lotion and light plastic cutlery (since they are reusable and more eco friendly). Don’t forget the camera. ea
Make your own sandwichThe easiest and most convenient dish to prepare for a picnic is sandwiches. It’s quick to prepare and you don’t get your hands all messy while eating them so it’s a hassle free option.
Ingredients• Sliced bread • Cheese slices• Mayonnaise• Lettuce• Pepper• Oregano
Method• It’s a sandwich, so it means you need
two slices of bread for a sandwich. Spread mayonnaise on both slices of bread.
• On one slice of bread, place a lettuce leaf and top it with slice of cheese.
• Now sprinkle a pinch of pepper and some oregano.
• Place second slice on top.• And you’re done—one sandwich is ready!
Now, ask an adult to cut the sandwich so it’s easier to eat.
Picnic SpotsAny sunny day is a good day for
a picnic. And even a small spot in
the garden can act as your picnic
spot. But if it is a getaway you’re
planning, here are a couple of
places in and around town that you
can pick from:• Zoo
• Godavari Botanical Garden• Sanga
• Tribhuwan National Park

ALL ABOUT RECYCLING
GREENEFFORT!
If you have ever come across this symbol, you might have wondered what it might be. Well, this is the ‘recycling loop’. The three arrows symbolize the three steps of recycling process. • Step 1: Collection of the
recyclable materials. • Step 2: Taking the old
materials and making it into new products.
• Step 3: When you buy products made after recycling.
Have you seen this symbol?
s

What is recycling? Recycling means transforming unwanted and discarded materials into new products. It is a way of using the waste products into reusable materials.
Why should we recycle? When we make an object by recycling, it will take lesser time and money since there is no need to start the production from scratch. Also, it saves energy and a lot of Earth’s natural resources, thereby helping the environment. The huge land spaces which are used to keep the wastage won’t be needed if we recycle. Thus, no land will be damaged. On the other hand, recycling prevents pollution because all the waste products are reused instead of them lying all around.
healthylife KIDS12
All the products that can be recycled are divided into two catagories.1. One category includes all the
organic wastes that can be turned into manure. Waste or leftover foods, vegetables and anything that can be used as fertilizers fall under this category.
2. The second category is the non- biodegradable ones like glass, paper, steel, plastics, card board, aluminum and steel cans, plastic bottles,
etc. Since these items cannot be managed at home, recycling factory takes them to recycle. Otherwise, you can reuse some of these, like cardboard papers, boxes or cans for craft projects.
Be Responsible?Everyone and anyone can join hands to recycle many materials. Your parents, your teachers or you along with your friends can do something to save our environment. • Keep the organic and non-organic
materials separately in different bins so that it is easy for you to recycle them accordingly.
• Make or buy a compost bin or worm composter so that organic wastage can be made into manure. Talk about such bins with your parents and ask them to buy or make them for you.
• You can use some papers, cardboards to make frames, cards, folder, etc. For example make pom-pom from plastic bags. Cut the plastic

What are the things that can be recycled?
bags in the shape of 1cm wide and 20cm long ribbon. Tie one end of all the cutouts with a rubber band and tape 5cm of the plastics tightly to make a handle.
Jamarko is a shop that makes handicrafts from recycled products. It is located just beside Big Mart at Jhamsikhel. Visit the shop for beautiful handicraft products and recycled paper products and as you leave, donate some newspapers or unwanted papers.

TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTThe most melo• Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. created Alvin and the
Chipmunks, the American animated music group for a novelty record in 1958.
• “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” features the high pitched singing trio. This was their number one hit song.
• After their success and popularity, they started appearing in many animated cartoon productions and films.
• The first television series to feature the characters was The Alvin Show from 1961 to 1962
• On 5 October 2012, it was announced that The Chipmunks would return to television; but it will be under a new name entitled The Chipmunks and Chipettes. (Source: www.wikipedia.org)
• To get the latest updates on the chipmunks, log on to www.chipmunks.com
Here are some cool facts about them• They are good tree climbers and can
very well swim. They can run very fast when attacked by other animals.
• They live in holes or burrows called dens. They spend most of the time there in winters.
• There are 25 species of chipmunk in total and 24 are residents of North America.
• Food collected in 2 days can last the entire winter.
• They store their food in pouches inside their cheeks. That’s how they transport their food back to the den.
Are they for real? Yes of course, they belong to the squirrel family. We don’t see squirrels in Kathmandu but they are quite common in most countries. You’ll usually spot them in the gardens and park areas where there are trees and bushes, they love running around in the park searching for food left overs.
