KIDstruction Week Sample E-mail Message Subject: We need your support! Your company has committed to support the mission of St. Louis Children’s Hospital “to do what’s right for kids” through KIDstruction Week 2012. What is KIDstruction Week? It is a simple campaign that asks you to consider a $1 donation to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for every hour you work during the last week in July, KIDstruction Week. Just $1 per hour, for one week. That’s it. Simple, yet powerful. Big things can happen when everyone does a small part. Your gift will help fulfill important needs for the children and families who depend on St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Please take this opportunity to join your fellow tradespersons across the construction industry to collaborate on one, big, important project. To participate in KIDstruction Week complete the attached gift form and return it to me before July 20. Feel free to contact me with any questions or visit the website at KIDstructionWeek.com. (Please remove if your company is not matching gifts or edit if they are matching at a rate different than 100%) To increase the impact of each donation, Your company, has agreed to match your donation dollar for dollar. Together we can make an even bigger impact on the health and wellness of children in our community and around the world.

Thank you for your consideration and please let me know if you have any questions. I can be contacted at . . .

Foreman Talking Points

Hello everyone. I know we are all busy so thank you for taking a few moments to learn about an exciting new program that our company is participating in: KIDstruction Week. KIDstruction Week is a really cool opportunity for people in our industry to come together in support of a common cause and join in St. Louis Children's Hospital’s mission to do what’s right for kids.

Many of the construction companies in our area will be joining together for KIDstruction Week to benefit St. Louis Children's Hospital, which will take place the last week of July. Our company is very excited to be participating in this great cause and we hope that you will be too. (Talk about any commitment your company has made in terms of matching gifts or kick-starting your campaign with a corporate gift)

Now I would like to show you a short video so you can learn a little bit more about St. Louis Children's Hospital, KIDstruction Week and how we can help.

Show the “We’re Together for KIDstruction” video- available on DVD or at www.KIDstructionWeek.com

As you can see from the video, we can make a large impact and help kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital with stories just like the ones you have just seen. I am sure that many of you have your own stories as well. Has anyone here had an experience with St. Louis Children's Hospital? Would you like to share it with the group?

Our construction community is clearly affected with St. Louis Children’s Hospital treating more than 700 children of metro area construction tradespersons. Helping out with KIDstruction Week will give us the opportunity to come together to support kids who need our support.

Just like any of our construction projects, KIDstruction Week requires a strong team to come together with a common goal to improve the life of a child. I hope that you will join us in supporting KIDstruction Week.

I would like to ask you to consider making a $1 donation for every hour that you work during KIDstruction Week, which will take place (give your company dates). Just $1 for every hour you work for one week, that’s it! Not too much to ask for kids that are fighting disease, learning to cope with changes in their heath and just trying to be kids.

Your donation will help fund things like the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program, Family Resource Center, Children’s Surgical Sciences Institute, Healthy Kids Express, and Music Therapy Program. These are really important programs that would not be possible without support from the community.

Hand out brochures

Please take a look at the brochure that I am passing out, which includes even more information about how your donation will make a difference and make your pledge today. Making your donation through payroll deduction is the easiest way to support KIDstruction

5

Week. Just complete the pledge form, sign and return to me and we will take care of everything else. This will allow us to more easily track our total number of donations and keep track of our progress.

I’ll be around for a little bit after the meeting to collect everyone’s pledge cards. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.

Thank you for your consideration. Everyone that agrees to participate will receive KIDstruction Week hardhat sticker and thank you letter from St. Louis Children’s Hospital, which can be used for your tax purposes. If you make a donation of $40 or more, you will also receive a safety green KIDstruction Week T-shirt!

NON-PAYROLL DEDUCTION DONATIONS

If people ask you about making a donation with cash, credit card, or check please relay the following information. However, we ask that you encourage employees to participate through payroll deduction as it is the best way for us to track and process gifts of this magnitude.

For security reasons I cannot collect credit card information, if you prefer to make your donation by credit card you can do so online at www.KIDstructionweek.com. Just click “donate now” and complete the online donation form.

If you would like to make a donation by cash or check, please complete the Employee Donation Pledge Form in your brochure and return it to me with your donation attached. If you do not return the completed form with your donation, St. Louis Children's Hospital will not be able to recognize you or thank you for your gift. So, you will want to be sure to turn it in so that you will receive your hard hat sticker and T-shirt! (T-shirts are only given to donors who make a gift of $40 or more.)

Common Objections and Questions

Some of your co-workers may have questions or concerns about supporting KIDstruction Week. That’s okay. Here are some simple tips to help you deal with objections:

Don’t take their objection personally. Listen to their concerns. Try to understand where they are coming from. Don’t argue with the person, instead respond with facts. Try to suggest an option that will work for them. Most importantly, thank everyone for their consideration, even if they decide not to

give.

Here are some common objections that you may hear and suggested responses that may help you to overcome them:

“I don’t have any kids so why should I give?”

Each year about 275,000 patients visit St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and hundreds of them are children of our fellow trades people. Beyond that, Children’s Hospital supports children in our community through multiple outreach and advocacy programs. Chances are you know someone who has been helped by Children’s Hospital or who will need their services.

“What’s the point? What is my little donation really going to do anyway?”

Your donation can make a difference. Take a look at the center panel in your brochure. It gives just a few examples of ways that your donation can help. Plus, remember that KIDstruction Week is a trade driven team effort. If everyone does a small part, together we can make a huge difference.

“Money is tight right now, I can’t afford to donate that much.”

I understand your circumstance. Why don’t you think about what you could afford to contribute? Every little bit helps.

Tip: Share a personal story, either from the video or perhaps your own experience with Children’s Hospital. This helps donors to put themselves in someone else’s shoes and see what a difference their donation could make.

“I don’t live in St. Louis, so why should I give?”

St. Louis Children's Hospital is one of the premier children's hospitals in the United States. It serves not just the children of St. Louis, but children across the world. St. Louis Children's Hospital has served patients from all 50 states and 60 countries.

“I already give to charity, why should I give to this too?”

This is a special opportunity for us to do something as an industry. By coming together as tradespersons we have the potential to make KIDstruction Week a huge success. Together we can help thousands of sick kids every year. St. Louis Children’s Hospital depends on community-based fundraising programs to do what’s right for kids. Funds raised will allow St. Louis Children’s Hospital to continue providing the very best pediatric care through cutting-edge medicine, research, innovative programs and community outreach.

Tip: Also mention if your company is doing a corporate match. Explain how your company’s commitment to match their gift will make their donation go even further.

Is my donation still tax deductible?

Yes. All KIDstruction Week participants will get a thank you letter in the mail from St. Louis Children’s Hospital with information for their tax purposes. Your donation is 100% tax deductible.

Proceeds from KIDstruction Week 2012 will benefit programs and services at St. Louis Children's Hospital including:

Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program

Neurocritical care deals with urgent issues affecting the nervous system, such as traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, seizures, and brain ischemia (for example, cardiac arrest, drowning, extracorporeal life support). St. Louis Children’s Hospital leads the nation’s efforts in pediatric neurocritical care, having developed the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program (PNCP), the first, most comprehensive program of its kind in the United States. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major focus area of our research. The neurocritical care team is comprised of physicians, nurses and support staff with expertise in critical care, neurology and neurosurgery. The PNCP is unique in that it features a full-time clinical care coordinator on staff to ensure that patients receive every

advantage from admission through treatment, including a smooth transition to rehabilitation at St. Louis Children’s Hospital’s renowned neurorehabilitation unit.

Family Resource Center

The Family Resource Center provides health information to over 16,000 patrons a year. They provide personalized health information packets for families to cope with the changing lives of their children. Information packets have been mailed to people in 50 states and 10 countries. Information ranges from food allergies to how to explain what cancer is to a young child. With the health packets, families are empowered to make a more informed health decision for their families. Families frequently feel a sense of power and peace when they are equipped with knowledge regarding their child's condition. The Center is a free service to all and is funded through donations.

Children’s Surgical Sciences Institute (CSSI)

Thanks to the Children’s Surgical Sciences Institute (CSSI), research in pediatric surgery is growing by leaps and bounds. CSSI research will lead to new treatments in major areas of children’s surgical care, including fetal repair, childhood cancer, trauma and pediatric gastroenterology. These treatments will improve survival rates and equip pediatric surgeons with better, more sophisticated and less invasive surgical techniques. The bottom line is CSSI research will directly translate to better care and outcomes for children.

Music Therapy Program Music therapy is used to help children manage stress, alleviate pain, express feelings, improve communication and promote physical rehabilitation. This type of therapy greatly improves the services offered to the patients at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Music therapy is considered a standard service for exceptional children’s hospitals. Many children find it difficult to express themselves verbally, especially the children that have had brain injuries or tumors. However, when they participate in a one-on-one music session with the music therapist, they can find an avenue to express themselves. Music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, psychological, cognitive and social needs of the children.

Joint Adventures Camp The Joint Adventures Camp provides the opportunity for children with rheumatic diseases to participate in a camp experience, to develop new relationships and skills, better understand and manage their diseases, and increase their self esteem in a medically supervised and safe environment. Camp counselors, administrators and medical staff are volunteers, who donate their time, energy and expertise. The camp medical staff includes a 24-hour, on-site pediatric rheumatologist and nurse specialist.

Healthy Kids Express

Healthy Kids Express is a pediatric mobile health program that benefits the community by meeting the needs of children at risk of not receiving timely medical care. The program supports the efforts of primary care providers by identifying children's health care needs. Specific services available include dental, hearing, and vision screens; lead poisoning and iron deficiency testing; immunizations and episodic illness care; nutritional, fitness and other health education; medical and social services referrals; and insurance and Medicaid enrollment services. The program serves more than 20,000 children annually. Services are delivered at no cost to the children or their families.
