KIIT Technology Business Incubator (KIIT-TBI) was started in 2009 as an initiative of KIIT University and has since been supported by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Dept. of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India. It is a registered Not for Profit Section (25) Company having registration number U80302OR2009NPL011211, 2009-1010.

BioNEST

KIIT-TBI Bioincubator has been in operation since 2012, with support from BIRAC under the Bioincubator Support Scheme (BISS). It has

established itself in the eastern region with an excellent track record for growth and development of early stage companies carrying forward

translational research. Having an unrivalled ability to cater for the needs of both office and lab-based startups, by providing flexible and

affordable accommodation it’s currently home to 30 innovators including companies operating in the agri biotechnology, industrial processes

to formulations, nanotechnology and medical devices sector.

BIRAC has recently initiated Bio-NEST program, aimed at creating 15 worldclass bioincubators, with KIIT-TBI being one of them. This programme

provides incubation space, mentor network, instrumentation facilities, IP and technology management support.

Entrepreneur-in- Residence (NIDHI-EIR)

The programme aims to inspire brilliant minds to be entrepreneurs,

to minimise the risk involved in pursuing start-ups, and to partially set

off their opportunity costs of high paying jobs. The scheme provides a

fellowship up to Rs.30,000 per month to an aspiring entrepreneur of

considerable potential for pursuing a promising technology business

idea for a maximum period of 12 months. The entrepreneurs are

provided with an office space, administrative support and a stipend

to foster most of their ideas and turn innovative breakthroughs into

viable businesses. The programme thus encourages enterprising

individuals to venture out and pursue daring entrepreneurial ideas as

well as enhances the quantity and quality of start ups.

NIDHI - PRAYAS Centre (PC)

The main objective of the KIITTBI-NIDHI PRAYAS Center (PC) is to

support the innovators (PRAYASEE) by providing prototyping grant

along with a PC Fab Lab facility for the development of PoC/Product

thus bridging the gap between idea and prototyping. The current

focus areas for support are manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare,

clean-tech, energy, water and Internet of Things (IoT). Along with a

prototyping grant of upto 10 lakhs, the grantees will be provided with

technical guidance, business mentorship and IP facilitation support.

After prototyping stage, they will be eligible for futher funding and

incubation support at KIIT-TBI to scale their product/service with the

Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG)

BIG is the flagship pioneering startup funding

programme of BIRAC, DBT, GoI. With a

grant-in-aid of up to INR 50 Lakhs over a period

of 18 months, the scheme encourages and

supports biotech entrepreneurs to establish

and validate proof of concept (POC) for an idea

with a commercial potential.

SPARSH - SIIP

Social Innovation Programme for Products

Affordable and Relevant to Societal Health

(SPARSH) highlights the need of innovative

solutions to society’s most pressing social

problems.

SIIP (Social Innovation Immersion Program) is a

fellowship programme under SPARSH scheme

that aims to build the next generation of social

entrepreneurs by helping them immerse and

interface with communities to identify gaps

and then work on bridging the gaps through

an innovative product or service offering. The

program offers a fellowship of upto Rs. 50,000

per month for a period of 18 months along with

a prototyping grant of Rs. 5 Lakhs.

NIDHI-CoE (Digital Health Lab)

Digital Health Lab is set up to meet the overwhelming challenges of Indian healthcare scenario by fostering an ecosystem for indigenous

mHealth solutions (Make in India + Digital India). Its purpose is to successfully develop digital health solutions for real-world applications;

enabling new ideas to be tested, validated, and commercialised more rapidly, thereby making lives better. NIDHI - National Initiative for

Developing and Harnessing Innovations aimed at helping startups across the country in terms of both funding and incubation support.

Digital health technologies empower us to track and manage our health in a better way. It can personalize and optimize treatments while

reduces the medical inefficiencies of medical delivery and at a fraction of costs. Digital trends have already generated a steady increase in

efficiency and process optimization across different sectors.

MSME Business Incubator (MSME-BI)

The incubator programme addresses the gap between idea and com-

mercialisation. Each selected innovators will receive MSME grant upto

6.25 lakhs along with incubation support for nurturing innovative

business ideas (new indigenous technology, processes, products,

procedure etc.) which could be commercialised within a year. The

currents focus areas for support are mechanical engineering, food

processing, chemical, and electronic, software engineering in general.

The idea is primarily for sustaining, at some basic or introductory

level, the incubation of ideas that would have otherwise been lost

for want of support. The expectations are that a sizeable percentage

of the grantees/incubates would be graduating to higher levels of

operation that would then require other follow on funding support .

NIDHI - Accelerator Programme

The accelerator program aims to build and attract high quality

startups, and have a customer centric validation model which

enhances investment readiness as well as worthiness.

The programme offers 3-6 months’ fast track structured program

helping ideas get accelerated to the next level through deep

mentoring process and access to funding and market networks in a

rigorous and structured manner. This will eventually strengthen and

enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem by building a pipeline of

potential high quality, sustainable start-ups. The overarching aim of

the program is to nurture the start-ups through scouting, supporting

and scaling of innovations which would help aspiring entrepreneurs

in the country to grow their business and make them market ready.

INVENT

KIIT-TBI is one of the implementing partners

for the INVENT program designed for the

8 low-income states of Bihar, Chattisgarh,

Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan,

Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. KIIT-TBI with

its network, bandwidth, experience, expertise

and exposure, aims to support start-ups in the

social arena. It aims at catalyzing the ability

of innovators to establish sustainable social

enterprises which can have a positive impact

on the “Bottom of the Pyramid” (BoP). KIIT-TBI

manifests to support innovation and uniqueness

in its quest to fulfil the objectives of INVENT.

TIDE Centre

KIIT-TBI TIDE Centre was established on May

2010, in supported of Ministry of Electronics

and Information Technology (MeitY),

Government of India, under Technological

Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs

(TIDE) scheme. The main objective of the

scheme is to foster innovation and enterprises

in the areas of Electronics and ICT, by enabling

young entrepreneurs to initiate technology

startup companies for commercial exploitation

of the technologies developed by them.

has seen a 20-fold growth in the last 9 months

and currently handles 5+ million transactions

worldwide. Their solution increases companies’

productivity and reduces cost by enabling

efficient field workforce management and

transparency in field operations across industry

verticals and geographies.

The company works with businesses across

various sectors and has established itself as a

leader in the logistics ecommerce industry by

securing clients such as Walmart India, DTDC,

Blue Dart, Safe Express, Bajaj Capital, Hitachi

etc. Having raised ₹ 2.0 crore from Indian Angel

Network (IAN) in 2014 they have recently raised

funding of $ 3.5 million (around ₹ 20.0 crore) in

Series A funding from SAIF Partners.

iOKE Motors

Has developed a wheelchair, AEGLE™, a series

motorized mobility aid which is engineered with

advanced lean manufacturing techniques to suit

the needs of the disabled. It has advanced features

like cell-phone integration, long battery back-up,

light weight, reclining back rest to provide the best

ergonomic design. Recently they were awarded

Innovative Young Entrepreneur Award by OTV (2016)

in the SME category.

Ziplr

Ziplr offers enterprise grade solution for shortening of URLs, branding a domain & gathering statistics. It enables companies by

helping them build their brand through branded short domain, short URLs and detail statistics and analyse their traffic data. It has

secured the contract from Govt. of Andhra Pradesh to implement digital marketing strategies. One of the founders, Mr. Nrupal

Das was awarded Innovative Young Entrepreneur Award by OTV (2015) and was invited as one of the IT entrepreneurs at CeBIT

Hannover, Germany.

Kanak Bioscience and Research

Manufactures bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides and plant growth

hormones of agricultural importance, formulated according to

the needs of various agro-climatic zones. The company has since

established itself as one of the leading agri-biotech manufacturing

companies in Central India with multi-crore turnover.

Dr. Dipak Kumar Sahu, MD, was awarded Best Incubatee Award at

Fourth ISBA Innovation & Entrepreneurship Awards, 2012.

inDNA Life Sciences is the first DNA based Clinic

Visargha Agri Sciences

Is working on revolutionising agriculture sector by

speeding up gene transformation technology. The novel

technique developed would significantly reduce the time

required to develop transgenic crops. They have so far

raised funding from BIRAC and private investors and are

close to commercialisation.

Kalinga Renewable Energy Manufacturers (KARMA)

Is on a journey to ensure power security through efficient solar

panels and advanced battery technology. Having spun out

of IIT Bhubaneswar their products are built on strong R&D,

sensor embedded energy systems, and remote grid using cloud

infrastructure. The company has tied up with National Bank for

Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide solar

energy solutions for farming and horticulture in the state of Odisha.

It is also actively engaged with various NGOs and SHGs towards

electrification of rural areas.

Krea Foods and Beverages

Is focused on developing fortified food products for addition to

the Government of Odisha’s Mid-day meals program. One of its

products’ is made from local millet – Mandiya. It aims to contribute

towards eradication of malnutrition alongside creating a value

chain proposition for the local farmers by creating a contractual

supply chain model for guaranteed crop income. One of our sister

Institutions – Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), home to

approx. 25,000 tribal children – has been testing the product during

their lunch program, securing an order to serve 25,000 customers in

its first year of operation.

Maiestas Luminaries

Specialises in manufacturing a wide range of next generation LED

products for lighting, environmental safety, electrical & electronics

industries, food and chemical process industries and many more

segments. They are committed to provide cost effective & efficient

technologies to the clients. Established in 2010, the company has set

out to make Odisha an electronics hub of India. And have managed

to make the firm one of the leading manufacturers of LED lighting

systems in eastern India with an array of industrial clients like NALCO

and OPTCL.

KIIT- TBI has been communicating to corporates about the significant role an incubation centre can play through entrepreneurship as a tool in social development. Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 allows contributions/funding to Technology Incubators located within academic institutions approved by the central government to be declared as a CSR spend.

A CSR Conclave was organized to sensitise about the role of CSR in fuelling the growth of entrepreneurship ecosystem in India. More than 24 CSR heads of corporate like JSPL, ACC Cements, Vedanta Aluminium, Sanofi, Pfizer, PPL, HAL, IFFCO, OCL, IREL, HTPL, IMFA, NINL, UNICEF, SIDBI, UCCI, SSI foundation, TCS have participated in the cross talk. Vedanta and MCL have since partnered with us and will contribute towards infrastructure, seed money, acceleration and capacity-building activities.

Under this initiative Vedanta partnered with KIIT-TBI along with funding support from Ram Narayan Seva Kendra, Mumbai in providing electricity to 1500 households in 55 tribal villages in Niyamgiri Hill area. The project was executed through KARMA Pvt. Ltd. (incubated at KIIT-TBI) who manufactured and installed the HH Solar and Solar Micro Grid systems.
