Introduction

SAUDI INTERNATIONAL INSULATION MANUFACTURING COMPANY (SIIMCO) is a joint venture equally owned by Alghanim industries (Kuwait) and Saint-Gobain (France).

SIIMCO will serve industrial and building insulation market segments in Saudi Arabia, GCC and Levant countries. SIIMCO solutions will enable the construction sector to meet the increasing demand for eco-friendly and energy efficient building materials. Stone wool (rock wool) insulation products are playing a key role in the successful development of green and fire safe building solutions as well as efficiently insulated industry equipment.

SIIMCO is manufacturing high quality stone wool insulation materials in different shapes (slab, wired mat, roll, pipe section & loose wool) for all types of buildings (residential & non-residential) and industrial facilities. The factory is located in Yanbu – west of Saudi Arabia.

Thermal insulation for Industry

Personal protectionTo protect personnel from contact injuries and skin burns when working close to hot pipe and equipment surfaces and very cold surfaces.

Process securityThermal insulation allows to maintain optimum of temperatures for transported or stored media (liquid or gaseous), to prevent corrosion due to high humidity levels/ dew point, and to prevent pipework and equipment from freezing in very low ambient temperatures.

Reduce heat lossDecreasing heat loss or gains allows to reduce the amount of energy needed to maintain process equilibrium and save cost. Optimizing the initial insulation will reduce installation costs and provide maximum energy savings throughout the lifetime of the installation.

Reduce environmental impactsOptimizing insulation efficiency will maximize the potential for CO2 saving, as well as provide a buffer against future rising energy costs. Insulation is certainly the easiest and most cost effective way to improve thermal efficiency. Improved sustainability through maxium thermal performanceTECH SA product range is designed to give optimum thermal conductivity for each application and temperature. The thermal conductivity of the insulation is measured over the full temperature scale in accordance with the internation-al standards. The thermal performance of TECH SA products is guaranteed by tight quality control, both internally and externally.

Thermal insulation is required for safety, to reduce heat loss and to increase sustainability of processes. SIIMCO offers the right solutions for all these requirements. There are numerous reasons for thermal insulation of equipment and processes:

Moistur & water repellence

Low chloride insulation products are the basis for preventing corrosion under insulation (CUI), especially where higher temperature surfaces are involved. In addition, all SIIMCO industrial insulation products for external use are hydrophobic and non-hygroscopic, thus limiting potential water absorption. The open cell structure allows products to dry out quickly, should they become wet, without loss of their mechanical or insulating properties

Hydrophobic performance is tested and measured according to EN 1609 & AGI-Q 132, which allows for water absorption of less than 1kg/m2� after 24 hours. Nevertheless mineral wool products should always be stored inside and in dry conditions, in order to maintain their performance and low chloride content, when used for outdoor applications or on cold surfaces, metal sheet jacketing or equivalent vapor barriers should always be used.

Standards and guidelines

There are different standards to define the limits for water-leachable ions in insulation products:

ASTM C 795, for instance, concerns the water-leacha-ble content of chloride, sodium and silicate ions.

Karnes diagram defines an acceptable area which is identified as not supporting stress corrosion. SIIMCO industrial solutions fall within the acceptable area.

AS-Quality (AGI-Q 132): even more demanding is the AGI-Q 132 which sets the maximum content of chloride ions at 10ppm or 10mg per 1 kg of insulation material. Insulation materials which satisfy this standard are certified for AS-Quality. Austenitic (AS) is a term which describes a particular type of crystalline steel structure.

Highly alloyed austenitic steels (alloys of chrome, nickel and molybdenum) are

predisposed to tensile stress corrosion (stress corrosion cracking), caused

mainly by water soluble ions, such as chlorides. As temperature increases, so

does the risk of stress corrosion cracking. SIIMCO industrial products are

therefore low in chlorides.

Acoustic insulation in this field therefore has two main objectives - to protect the hearing of personnel working close by and, particularly in urban areas, to reduce ambient sound in the local environment. That improves the productivity & personal safety.

TECH SA solutions are characterized by high longitudinal air-flow resistance and uniform porosity, resulting in high sound attenuation levels. Their outstanding performance is a direct result of their elastic properties and low modulus of elasticity, which gives TECH SA solutions

a low dynamic toughness, and makes them superior to other insulants, such as plastic foams.

Acoustic insulation for Industry

Many industrial installations work at high pressure, with fast moving media and often turbulence, all of which can cause high noise levels.

Sound absorption

TECH SA products offer excellent acoustic absorption of sound

energy at certain frequencies, even when exposed to higher

temperatures, as found for instance in exhaust gas and

desulphurization equipment.

Sound reduction

In noisy working areas, sound reducing techniques can be used to

supplement sound absorption. Sound reducing constructions using

the mass-spring-mass principle, or sound capsules, can be

particularly useful in reducing noise emissions from industrial

processes into the ambient environment.

Fire protection To protect personnel and equipment it is therefore important that all steps be taken to protect possible fire sources and prevent fires starting.Passive fire protection using non-combustible materials is the best way to eliminate these risks from the beginning or prevent fire from spreading. That is why all SIIMCO industrial insulation products offer outstanding fire safety properties.

SIIMCO insulation materials will not ignite, so there is no risk of fire caused by flying sparks from welding and grinding work carried out close to the insulation. In addition, SIIMCO insulating materials generate practically no smoke and no toxic gases, which is critically important for your employees, and for fire brigade personnel, should the worst come to the worst and a fire occur. With TECH SA industrial insulation solutions, you can feel safe in the knowledge that you will never be exposed to harmful gases from the insulation materials - and that you have done everything you possibly can to protect your plant and your business.

Fire resistanceYou can't always prevent a fire starting, but with SIIMCO insulation you can help to prevent it spreading. TECH SA solutions give you maximum safety in the event of fire. Whilst it is sometimes difficult to prevent a fire from starting, it is very important once it does start to prevent it spreading to surrounding areas, and particularly to prevent it encroaching on escape and evacuation routes.Additionally SIIMCO TECH SA fire-safe solutions are helping in the event of fire to keep the economic impact as low as possible by protecting surrounding industrial equipment.
