Kimmel Center Cultural Campus

Dear friends, We are now immersed in our 2018-19 season and are looking ahead to more diverse and robust offerings in the New Year, energized by the moments that have taken place on our Cultural Campus thus far. Our facilities have served the community as a catalyst for conversation; as a home to Broadway on Broad Street; as a provider of touring jazz, comedy, and family-friendly fun; and as an education hub for students of all ages.

Each year, the Kimmel Center opens its doors as an incubator of new work through a year-long Jazz Residency program, selecting and supporting local Philadelphia musicians as they challenge and embrace the long-standing history of jazz in our city while transporting jazz into the future with works that are relevant and engaging.

This year’s Jazz Residency musicians were chosen by a seven-person panel made up of some of this country’s most prominent jazz minds – including Dr. Aaron Flagg, Chair & Associate Director of Julliard Jazz; Lonnie Davis, President & CEO of Jazz Arts Initiative in Charlotte, North Carolina; Diane Chandler-Marshall, Education & Talent Development Director for the Jazz Institute of Chicago; Marty Ashby, Executive Producer for the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild (MCG) in Pittsburgh; Georgina Javor, Assistant Director for Programming, Concerts, and Touring, Jazz at Lincoln Center; Ellen Rower, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor for Jazz and Improvisation at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; and Eric Gould, Chair of Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music. We thank these individuals for their support and encourage our fellow arts lovers to follow along on the creative journeys of our hand-selected musicians.

Keep up with us as we continue lifting art to greater heights in the New Year. With returning holiday favorites like A Soulful Christmas and Tuba Christmas, plus our very first Broadway Philadelphia sensory-friendly performance with Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical, December is jam-packed with inclusive, family-friendly opportunities to gather together and remember the reason for the season. Our vision to transform lives daily through the arts continues in 2019, with free community programming like Three Kings Day, La NOCHE, Sittin’ In, and (for our littlest arts lovers) Grow Up Great, not to mention a full lineup of speakers, returning comedians, and legendary jazz musicians.

For the latest in Kimmel Center news, follow us on social media and sign up to receive weekly Ovation newsletters! Warmly,
