St Brigid’s acknowledges the traditional owners of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community.

We pay our respect to them and their cultures, and to the elders both past and present. We commit to actively work for justice and peace.

Dear Families of St Brigid’s,

This weekend we celebrate Pentecost

Sunday, the time when Jesus sent the Holy

Spirit so that the disciples could begin the

difficult task of giving witness to the Reign of

God. Imagine the disciples locked in a room,

full of fear. Then Jesus miraculously appears,

showing them that neither fear nor human

obstacles can keep out Christ and his offer of peace. The disciples’ fear is suddenly

turned into rejoicing. Jesus hands on his mission to the disciples and gives them the

Holy Spirit so that they may reconcile people to the Father by forgiving sins in God’s

name just as Jesus had done.

The Church continues Jesus’ ministry of reconciling people to God in a special way

through the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. Although Baptism takes away

original sin, it does not remove its effects, namely our tendency to sin. Because we are

members of the Church, our sin not only offends God but also harms the community.

Therefore, we need to be reconciled to God and the Church. Celebrating the sacrament

of Penance and Reconciliation help us to do that.

When was the last time you experienced God’s love and mercy in the sacrament of

Penance and Reconciliation? Even if it has been a while, God and the Church are always

there waiting with open arms. We are all asked to consider making time this week to be

reconciled and renewed.

It is wonderful to be able to welcome all of our students back to school this week and slowly settle back into routines. At this time, I just want to say to all parents and carers that you are absolutely AWESOME!! You have all been amazing during these long weeks - your patience and understanding has supported your children, your gratefulness to staff has been so uplifting for them as they worked extra hard to support our learners and your willingness to deal with the ever changing landscape has assisted us. We know it hasn’t been easy trying to take on a learning supervision role. We know it has been tough being at home juggling work, kids, learning and other responsibilities. We know you have struggled with roles you never wanted. And we know you are worried that you’ve missed something or your kids have or you have taught something the wrong way. Stop worrying now! Be grateful you have come through this time and breathe deeply as you can go back to being the parent you want to be. We have it now! We are in your debt for the support you have given us. THANK YOU!

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK: Today, Wednesday, 27th May, marks the commencement of National Reconciliation Week (NRW) in Australia. The term Reconciliation is applied in various forms. The dictionary defines reconciliation as an action of making one view or belief compatible with another. Accountants use it to ensure two sets of accounting records are in agreement. For Catholics, Reconciliation is a sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ in his love and mercy to offer us forgiveness for the times we have turned away from God.

Page 3: KINDERGARTEN · 2020-07-02 · actions of all Australian’s as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community,

Regardless of how the word is used, at the heart of the matter is that reconciliation can only take place if the cause of a division is addressed, whether it be a set of financial records, a relationship with a friend or family member or our relationship with God. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year: 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey—the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australian’s as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

SPORT: With the students resuming back this week we would like to run our School Cross Country and Athletics Carnival before the end of this term. We are planning on running a modified version of these two events. Each race will be held separately in Year levels, with boy and girl events. Unfortunately, this year there will be no progression forward to Zone Level. It is purely an opportunity for the students to race at school level. We are still awaiting advice from the Catholic Schools Office as to whether the Zone Athletics Carnivals will be going ahead.

As per the guidelines from the Catholic Schools Office, there will be no parent spectators allowed on site.

SCHOOL HATS: Just a reminder that school hats are COMPULSORY. Every child should have a school hat in their bag every day. We have many students disregarding this requirement. So this week, no hats might mean NO PLAY until we get back into the routine.

RETURNING DEVICES TO SCHOOL: As students who borrowed a school device, return to school fulltime, we ask that all borrowed devices are returned. Please make sure that chargers are returned also. Parents are still responsible for devices until they are returned to school. Please remind your child to take extra care with their device as they travel to and from school.

READY4LEARNING: With the transition back to school this week, we would also like to commence our Ready4Learning Program for 2020. We are looking at getting underway on Friday 12

th June. R4L will then run on each Friday for the remainder of

Term 2 and then into Term 3. Children who will be enrolling into St Brigid’s for Kindergarten 2021 will then commence their Transition to School Program in Term 4. This program will fill very quickly and I encourage all who have children ready to start school in 2021 to contact the office to obtain your form. The program will have a literacy and numeracy focus with social skills, along with fine and gross motor activities. If you have a child starting school next year or know of someone who has a child ready for school in 2021 please let them know about this wonderful program.

ENROLLING FOR KINDERGARTEN 2021: Enrolment Packs for Kindergarten 2021 are now available from the school office. If you have a child beginning school next year, or know of anyone who does, would you please advise them of this. Completed enrolment applications are asked to be lodged by Thursday 2

nd July.

We will be hosting Small Group Orientation Sessions for those parents who would like to learn a little more about St Brigid’s Primary and how we can all work together for our children. We will be holding 3 sessions in the school library, however due to social distancing regulations, sessions will be limited to 7 persons. Session times are as follows:- Wednesday 10

th June at 10am

Thursday 11th

June at 10am and 6pm

It is important that families ring in to book the session that they would like to attend.
