Starting School What is the difference between TK and
Kindergarten?
The Transitional Kindergarten classroom will provide developmentally appropriate thematic-based curriculum. The curriculum is a hybrid between the California
Preschool Learning Foundations and the California Common Core Standards for Kindergarten.
Students in the TK program will be provided a program that will bridge their early
childhood experiences to those of the public school system.
Starting School Can my child participate in Kindergarten if
his/her birthday is after the eligibility cut off? (after December 2nd)
IUSD does not have Board Policy that allows our District to enroll children who turn five after the initial Dec. 2nd cutoff.
Starting School
Can my child enter Kindergarten if they are age eligible for TK? (turn 5 between September 2nd and December 2nd)
Can my child enter TK if they are age eligible for Kindergarten? (turn 5 on or before September 1st)
We are obligated to adhere to CA Education Code and enroll students in the grade level in which they are age eligible based on their date of birth.
Starting School Over the summer your child can…..
Read, practice writing name, practice cutting, play at the playground, set up playdates, and camps
Questions? Email IPSF: [email protected]
Registration opens April 7.

Starting School Alternative Grade Level Request
• Our goal is for kids to be successful and in the most appropriate grade level
• We are obligated to adhere to CA Education Code
• Initially enroll based on Date of Birth (DOB)
• Parents work with the school site/teacher to discuss alternate grade level placement
• Student Study Team (SST) Process (if appropriate)
• Assessments are done once school has started and in a classroom setting with same age peers
• Look at behavior, physical, social, emotional and academic readiness
