The magazine has been a welcome regular source of lively and informative commentary and discussion.

It’s a refreshing change from the kind of magazines at present. It has perceptive and intelligent, thought provoking articles on subjects, ranging from politics to literature to history and humanities in general. The best part of the magazine is that it challenges the notions of the prevailing mainstream culture.

Kindle has set up a trend of taking up interesting and relevant issues and of dealing with them in a radical and rigorous fashion. I hope that the Kindle team will be able to keep this going for a long time to come.

Kindle tries to highlight an issue in all its nuances and goes beyond the mainstream to focus on stories, voices, people and lives that need to be documented. My best wishes.

About

In the last five years that have gone by since the magazine’s inception, Kindle has been able to establish the difference between journalism and journalism that makes a difference. As an independent magazine that has created a multi-layered intellectual platform for the youth, Kindle did find the challenges of questioning the status quo and cutting through the red tape that bit harder, but the results were all the more satisfying. It is in Kindle’s existence and following that one can prove that modern India has both the space and the inclination for a culture that is not merely consumerist and mass-dispensable.

In our monthly issues, since inception, we’ve had a number of successful stories that have been provocative, unique and reflective of the nation’s youth. From sedition to drug abuse, from article 377 to science fiction, from the environment to social networking – Kindle has tried to constantly push the envelope and put across an honest, candid and fair voice of reason. One must also mention the luminaries and stalwarts who have communicated to the youth of the nation using Kindle as a platform. They include: Noam Chomsky, Shyam

A critical and consistent look at media that goes beyond the odd content analysis or polemic is sorely needed but rarely happens. It requires the study of structures, of ownership, of the social role of media, of government policy and more. It also requires data and discussion, reflection and introspection. Kindle’s sustained efforts place it amongst the few.

From an advertiser’s point of view, Kindle should be a good media choice in the magazine segmentfor the following reasons:

Kindle caters to an audience which is socially and politically sensitive.

Since Kindle is not a current affairs magazine per se, readers typically collect issues of the magazine to keep as archives.

Kindle is present in a large number of school, college and institutional libraries across the country.

Kindle Magazine’s digital version is available on all platforms; including iOS, Android and Windows.

Kindle has conducted workshops with more than 15,000 students across the country in 4 years.

We boast of a subscriber base of 6000 readers.

Kindle has conducted several youth events such as quizzes, debates, panel discussions, book launches, road shows over the past five years which have been very well attended.

Our events give advertisers a chance to leverage their brands by their presence as sponsors or advertisers.

Kindle being a national magazine; it is available in various book store chains like A.H. Wheelers & Co. Pvt Ltd (covering major Railway junctions across the country), Oxford book store , Crossword , Starmark etc. It is also available for sale at pavement shops across the nation.

Some of the brands who have associated with us in the past include Dollar Industries Ltd , Birla Century Textiles , Weekender Clothing , Swissotel Kolkata, Idea Cellular, Mahindra Two Wheelers, DSMS Durgapur , Neotia Institute of Management Technology and Science (NITMAS) , Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH ) Noida ,Cream & Fudge Factory, Pizza Corner , Coffee World , Birla Institute of Futuristic Studies and many more.

Benegal, Medha Patkar, Valmik Thapar, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Gulzar, Mohsin Hamid, Arundhuti Roy, Sarnath Banerjee, Vishal Bharadwaj, Anand Patwardhan and William Dalrymple to name a few.

Our aim is to whole-heartedly live up to the name of the magazine by endeavoring to ‘kindle’ the minds & spirits of the Indian youth. We want to give them a platform for self-expression and self-realization, and the courage and means to be a part of a counter culture opposed to all standardizing mainstream forces.

Our prospective readers-who are deeply impressionable and who have every reason to remain mostly fascinated, also live in the age of information overload, where more lucrative, more ‘free’ and more exciting choices are already presented to them; In such a scenario, ‘Kindle’ will have its uses. By knocking constantly on their ‘intellect’ and not their ‘instincts’-we will try to find tiny peepholes, and windows that open into their own selves. We believe they will eventually open their doors to us.
