NEW YORK FASHION WEEK REPORT
spring summer 2012 collections
PREEN by THORNTON BRAGAZZI
It was a ladylike affair for Preen's
Spring Summer 2012 collection,
featuring pixellated prints in pastel
tones. Accentuated waists, knee
lengths and tailoring were the order
of the day with multi coloured
pastel prints. Whilst the styling was
prim and proper, Preen's Spring
Summer 2012 collection infuses
geometric prints with frills and
crochet, balancing the collection.
“We were looking at Virginia Wolf,
and wanted to create a collection
with that sense of heritage, but
make it very modern,” said the
husband and wife duo.
JASON WU
Now famously known for being
Michelle Obama's go-to
designer, Jason Wu Spring
Summer 2012 collection did
not disappoint. Inspiration was
drawn from the late fifties with
couture shapes. Whimsical
fluent fabrics complimented
geometric floral prints. Wu has
created a Spring Summer 2012
collection that is fun yet stylish.
We adore Wu's looks:
effortless outfits with bed hair
style hair. On our wish list are
the pop art monochrome floral
print items which were
designed in collaboration with
KAWS.
New York Fashion Week this season was like no other. Anyone who was anyone lined the front rows and stepped
out in style to witness Spring Summer 2012 trends unveiled before their eyes. Kindred Sole Edition New York
Fashion week reports from the catwalks with the hottest designers giving you the insight into next seasons trends.
DIANE von FURSTENBERG
This was one show we couldn't wait to
see the results from. Diane von
Furstenberg is chic and confident
especially with print and colour.
Spring Summer 2012 was no
different. Each look was strong and
sleek on its own but when they came
together they were equally one. We
like everything from the blue fine
geometric print look to the bold green
white and blue head to toe look.
Casually sophistication came in the
turn of tailoring. Colour Block still
seen at Diane von Furstenberg
however for Spring Summer 2012
with softer pastel shades.
PRABAL GURUNG
Fab prints - check, fab colour -
check, wish list items? We think so!
The colouration seen at Prabal
Gurung was exquisite. Purple,
white and black tones in graphic
prints on dresses are delightful for
Spring Summer 2012. As well as
soft green tones used on Tailoring.
Prabal Gurung Tailoring was sharp
with printed trousers styled with
colour block blazer as seen at
other NYFW shows. Sheer fabric
and printed silk garments were
aesthetically pleasing yet maybe
not so practical - What do you
think?
DEREK LAM
Derek Lam was another designer who
embraced colour for Spring Summer
2012. From orange, yellow blue and
white and through them all into the
collections mix taking the colour block
trend of last season into Spring Summer
2012. Longer lengths were the order of
the day, styled with thin waist hugging
belts to really elongate the figure. We
love the abstract top to toe look - will this
be in your Spring Summer 2012
wardrobe? Sixties architecture of Palm
Springs was the inspiration with simple,
elegant lines in a variety of colour tones.
Styled with sleek hair do's, all eyes were
on the garments.
LONDON FASHION WEEK REPORT
spring summer 2012 collections
London Fashion Week is known for being at the heart of fashion, embracing young
British talent and creating fabulous diverse trends which we show off to the world.
The Spring Summer 2012 shows were no different. Designers embraced colour
throughout London Fashion Week and the use of print was extra-ordinary!
BURBERRY PRORSUM
Over 1500 guests attended the Burberry
Prorsum Spring Summer 2012
Womenswear show in London’s Hyde
Park including Sienna Miller and Rosie
Huntington-Whiteley. The colour palette
included forest green, plum and mustard
and wintery under tones. Waists were a
focal point with belts and high waist
skirts. Burberry Prorsum is one of the
most recognised British heritage brands
and its Spring Summer 2012 collection
embraced this effortlessly. A seventies
twist appeared in the style of prints. The
signature Burberry trench coat made
another appearance in both turquoise
leather and woven check.
TEMPERLEY
Spring Summer 2012 draws
inspiration from the silver screen,
namely Grace Kelly in High Society
and movie stills of Michelle Pfeiffer in
Scarface. The resultant collection is
elegant, sensual and ultra glamorous.
Soft tuxedo looks are given a twist.
Fluid, lean lines have been juxtaposed
with draped kimono capes in
oversized floral prints. A recognisably
Temperley colour palette of creams,
soft nudes, pistachio and lemon is
shot through with graphic navy and
white. The result is a decadent, high
octane collection of timeless pieces
that are integrally Temperley in
celebration of their tenth anniversary.
CHRISTOPHER KANE
Among the front row or 'FROW' at
Christopher Kane Spring Summer
2012 show was Kanye West, Eliza
Doolittle and Erin O'Connor. Spring
Summer 2012 collection at
Christopher Kane was smothered with
floral print and embellishment. The
collection had an overall refreshing
look about it. Print styled with print
was created effortlessly and a trend to
watch for S/S 2012. Printed outfits
were then styled with matching print
chunky rubber sole sandals. Bold,
glistening floral prints on soft organza
dresses were our favourite's.
ERDEM
Signature floral prints were the key
look at Erdem S/S 2012 show set in
the ballroom at The Savoy. There
was a strong tailoring presence with
dresses, trousers and skirts all cut to
perfection. Colour tones were fairly
muted from blue to yellow with the
floral prints making them appear bold.
Laser cut lace added to the femininity
of the show especially when styled
with busy prints. Detailed collars were
seen on dresses and shirts. Skirts
and dress hemlines finished at the
knee for a lady like look. Nude lace
dresses made an appearance
towards the end of the show which
balanced the collection.
HOUSE OF HOLLAND
Described as 'Pastel Punk's', the
House of Holland collection has
done it again - made a strong, bold
collection that will inspire many.
Henry Holland is known for being a
celebrity and paparazzi favourite
with his front row including Eliza
Doolittle, Pixie Geldof, Nicola
Roberts and Lorraine Kelly. The
catwalk was decorated with giant
leopard print which was later seen
within the collection. Key looks
included high waisted garments,
paint and bleached jeans and bold
prints. Signature House of Holland
tartan prints in purple and blue was
used in tailoring.

"The most attractive make up trend this winter for me is the nude lip trend.
It's when you have on a lip colour that looks natural like light pink or even a
very light shade of brown. Nude lips also go really well with smokey eyes
which is also on the trend report this A/W! At the 2011 vma the red carpet
was full of celebs rocking the natural lip look such as Selena Gomez, Kim
Kardashian and Beyonce.
I would recommend Maybelline colour sensational lipstick in colours coral
fever and 125 shimmer pink to kindred sole readers who would like to try out
this trend." says Bree at Cosmetic Collision
''This season is all about boyish
beauty. Subtle tones echoing those
naturally found on bare lids took
centre stage on catwalks.
Skin was impeccable; teamed with
bold brows and masculine hair for
an androgynous look. I will be
keeping my lips clean and my nails
matte for an edgy twist. Think of
Agyness Deyn and Carey Mulligan
for inspiration. Time to man up and
get on trend.'' says Kia Simpson at
Make Me Up Kia
"Autumn Winter make up trends for the season are all
about Lady Like Glamour. The red lip is key and the
smokey eye has a new twist with metallic shades. "

We wanted to get the
inside gossip on the
A/W make up trends
from the girls in the
know: Make Up
Bloggers! Take a look:
''Bold and daring lips are a must for the coming A/W season, so for those of you who like to make a statement and
stand out you’ll love experimenting with reds, corals, violets, and even black coloured lipsticks. I absolutely love this
trend because a vivid lipstick can add an extra edge to any outfit, with a bright pink or an intriguing violet you can
instantly make a plain dress the star attraction. However, this trend is certainly not for the faint hearted. So be brave,
go bold, and ooze confidence with a bright or vampy coloured lippy.'' says Kerry Harrison at The Doll House
Bold Lips at Nichole Farhi
''My favourite A/W make up trends are the sassy, mod-
inspired spider lashes that have been gloriously ruling the
fashion runways! To get the spider lash look, use a black
thickening mascara that also lengthens, such as Dior
DiorShow Mascara. The trick is to apply the mascara by
holding the wand both horizontally and vertically.
Here's How: Hold the mascara wand horizontally against
the roots of your lashes and wiggle the wand as you guide
it towards the tips. Do the wiggling motion from roots to
tips from the outer corner to the inner corner of your
lashes. Add a second & third coat while the applied
mascara is wet. With the tip of the wand, use the excess
mascara there by running it vertically through your lashes
from roots to tips and applying a second coat to only the
tips of the lashes. Use a lash comb to keep mascara from
looking clumpy. Finally, coat bottom lashes with two coats
of mascara in both horizontal and vertical angles.
Emphasize the dramatic look by adding white eyeliner to
the eyes inner rims and keep the rest of your makeup
simple to let your eyes be the centre of attention!'' says
