o King Arthur leaves Mordred in charge. Mordred plans to reign and marry Guinevere.

o Gawain’s might increases threefold between 9:00 a.m. and noon.

o Lancelot and Gawain battle. Lancelot holds Gawain off until after noon and strikes him.

o Gawain tells Lancelot to slay him. Lancelot refuses twice.

o King Arthur hears of Mordred’s treachery. Guinevere refuses to marry Mordred.

o Mordred retreats from confrontation with King Arthur.

o Arthur asks Bedivere to take Excalibur to the lake. Bedivere lies to Arthur twice about throwing the sword into the lake.

o After Arthur’s third request, Bedivere does throw the sword into the lake and sees an arm reach out of the lake for it.

o Bedivere takes Arthur to the lake to meet the four queens who will take him to Avalon.

o Guinevere becomes a nun while repenting for her sins.
