June 2016 Brothers, St. Joseph’s Family Picnic was another success this year with our Brothers’ participation and parishioners’ turnout. Appreciation goes to all volunteers and es-pecially PGK/Trustee Anthony Paruolo and Treasurer F.X Shields. The Memorial Day Parade was washed out, but ceremony was conducted at the VFW including organizations’ flowers and speeches with one by our very own PGK Anthony. Lec-turer Charlie Herbert again served as Chair. June 3 was Corporation’s Night at the Races co-chaired by PGK Anthony/ President Eric Johnston and DD Roger’s testi-monial followed by our best food drive ever June 4/5 the latter run by Charlie and Director Bob Normandin. Our end of year Pot Luck dinner had a few more guests than last year with attendee Bob N. receiving recognition for 47 years of service and Charlie Herbert made "Knight of the Year". Thanks to Treasurer and Recruitment Director F.X. Shields, Second Degrees were taken June 2 at HMM by George Foer-ster, Richard Bettica and Jonathan Valentin and they were joined by Jim Murphy for their Third Degrees on June 24 at St. Martin Council. As George and Richard were in attendance at our General Session, they were presented First and Second De-gree Certificates. Let’s offer a warm welcome to new First Degree member Michael Shivers as of June 22. The Music of THE KNIGHT Those of us who regularly attend Sunday mass in Travis Hall are very familiar with the excel-lent liturgical music provided by the St. Joseph’s Ensemble. They are an important part of the out-standing music program we have here in our parish. What many may not realize is that Fred Facompre’, the founder and conductor of the Ensemble is also a member of Knights of Columbus Fr. Seyfried Council 821. Recently, members of the Ensemble had a surprise party in our Council Hall to honor Fred, celebrating his 30
th anniversary as Principal Cantor of St. Joseph Church. Fred is a
classically trained accomplished musician. In addition to liturgical music he has performed as a fea-tured soloist in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Tilles Center and Le Frac Concert Hall. He has also had the honor of performing as Tenor Soloist at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi and in concert at St. Ignatius in Rome. Next time your Sunday mass schedule permits, come to Travis Hall and LISTEN TO THE MUSIC OF THE KNIGHT. Marty Mullarkey
COUNCIL FOOD DRIVE The St. Vincent de Paul Society and needy local families were the thankful beneficiaries of our coun-cil’s efforts during this Columbian year. Under the leadership of Brother Marty Mullarkey over 300 pounds of food contributed by the members at the monthly council meetings were donated. On the weekend of June 4/5 we held our fourth annual food drive at the council hall and once again hit the jackpot. Through the generosity of the Kings Park community, an endless parade of donors filled the tables with varieties of soups, pasta, sauce, cereals, juices, etc. These bundles were transported across the street much to the delight of the welcoming St.Vincent de Paul committee. This weekend yielded over 600 pounds of food plus $340 cash and gift cards. Thanks to all the brothers who donated or assisted. Bob Normandin/Charlie Herbert Co Chairs
