WHAT WE DO

English language courses & adventure activitiesOur quality English language courses give children the opportunity to improve their language skills in a vibrant and exciting environment. Our classes are taught by qualified English language teachers, and our curriculum has been specifically chosen to promote the Kingswood philosophy of ‘learning by doing’. All International students choosing our EFL programme will receive a minimum of 15 hours of fun, interactive language tuition per week in classes of up to 15 students. Upon arrival, students are split into mixed-nationality groups by age and ability to make sure they all get the most out of their time at centre. All students leave with a certificate of English language and a report on the progress they have made during their time with us. Classes are accompanied by adventurous and exciting activities, to ensure all children are highly motivated and having fun, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Trinity College examinationsTrinity College examinations are available to groups on request. Please inform us if you would like more information on this, along with details of our 2014 prices.

Additional toursThrough our sister company, UK Connection, we also specialise in offering tailor made group tours within the UK and Europe. From the bright lights of London and the lochs of the Scottish highlands, to themed European tours and three day trips to Paris and Disneyland, we offer additional group tours to enrich the beginning or end of your stay. For further details of our tours, please see p46.

Summer programmesOur summer programmes are the perfect choice for children wanting to explore Britain and experience British culture whilst improving their English language and making the most of their time away from home.

With a huge choice of adventurous activities available every day there is little time for boredom at Kingswood. Add in our enjoyable evening programme and inspiring range of excursions, and this adventure holiday promises to be a truly memorable experience, filled with non-stop action, laughter and fun.

Out of season programmesKingswood centres are open all year round, not just during the six weeks of summer, so groups can choose to visit us during any month of the year. Individual students are welcome when we operate our Camp Beaumont programme.

Throughout the year we welcome junior groups to 8 of our centres, to take part in adventurous activities and develop their English language skills in a very British environment. Outside the summer season, Kingswood centres are always busy with British schools, so our international guests can benefit from staying alongside English speaking children.

With stimulating environments, state of the art activity facilities, qualified teachers and highly trained activity instructors, we create valuable learning experiences and life-long memories for our students.

WHAT MAKES US SPECIAL?

6

Our huge selection of exhilarating adventure activities gives students the opportunity to try new and exciting experiences every single day. At Kingswood Camp Beaumont we are proud to partner with globally recognised names such as Discovery Channel and The Duke of Edinburgh Edinburgh’s Award. We are excited to be working closely with Discovery Channel on our ‘Ultimate Survival’ programme. Being a recognised member of quality Learning Outside the Classroom programmes is significant to our philosophy and the activities and modules we provide are proven to enhance a child’s learning on their return to their classroom.

Interaction with British childrenThroughout the year, a large percentage of the children at our centres are British. This means that our international students are able to practise their English language outside the classroom. We seek to mix our British and international students as much as possible to provide our international visitors with the most enriching British experience during their stay.

Exhilarating activities At Kingswood and Camp Beaumont, you can expect in excess of 50 adventure activities to ignite the imagination of

any child staying with us, we provide so much more than simply tennis, football and arts & crafts. Even our most basic activity programme includes exciting choices such as fencing, quad biking, abseiling and high ropes. From sunrise to sunset children are kept busy and active.

Professional Activity Instructors Our activity instructors are fully qualified and extensively trained, both in the activities they specialise in, and in leading and managing groups of children. They are all first aid trained and many work with us all year round, meaning they are expert in dealing with young people.

We own our centres Having flexibility throughout your stay, and working directly with the decision makers is extremely important. Owning our centres means we are able to assist you in all aspects of your stay and, should an issue arise, we are able to deal with it for you in a prompt and professional way, with no need to go through a middle man.

As well as our standard multi-activity programme, during July and August we also offer a variety of specialist activities, which give children the chance to spend much of their week focusing on a specific sport or activity that they wish to improve or learn more about. Each specialist programme involves 15 hours per week focusing on the chosen specialist activity in addition to your English language tuition and evening activities.

Alternatively, during our Camp Beaumont period, you can choose a fully immersive British experience and take one of our activity courses without formal English language classes. This is an amazing opportunity to really improve your English language, staying alongside the English children on site and being mixed throughout the day in activity groups. This offers the chance to be immersed in the English language and experience it in action. Please note that we would only recommend this option for children with a minimum intermediate level of English.

OUR PEOPLEEvery stay at a Kingswood centre is made extra special by our exceptional staff teams who work hard to create safe, secure and happy environments that are guaranteed to make your stay feel complete.

Guardians for our individual studentsWe accept individual students on to our Camp Beaumont programmes, which run during the British school holidays. Each individual is placed in a group of 12 students and that group has two guardians (camp coaches), dedicated to looking after them during their stay. They remain with the group 24-hours a day, making sure they wake on time, eat their meals, get to classes and activities on time and stay healthy while they are with us. Our guardians are hand-picked for their caring and responsible nature and their experience in looking after young children.

All UK staffAll centre staff, from instructors and EFL teachers to catering, security, maintenance and office staff, hold up-to-date, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and are fully trained in health, safety and pastoral care. Each centre has fully trained first aiders on site, as well as 24 hour supervision in the form of a night duty team.

Qualified English language teachers All English language classes are taught by qualified and professional teachers. Our language classes focus on making the most of each centre’s local environment. Our programmes have been specifically designed with junior short term language courses in mind and focus on improving all four skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Our EFL team work hard to make sure that our language classes are exciting, inspiring and in line with our philosophy of ‘learning by doing’.

Activity instructorsAll our activity instructors are qualified to the highest standards and receive on-going training in health and safety, first aid and welfare. All are assessed on a regular basis to ensure our standards never slip.

With over 30 years’ experience as one of the UK’s premier adventure holiday providers, Kingswood and Camp Beaumont are names you can trust. We strive to create centres that truly excel, where young people can enjoy fun new experiences, learn English and conquer their fears in a safe, nurturing environment. We want you to feel confident that your children are in safe hands.

HEALTH & SAFETY

52

Watersports

Safety firstWe carry out risk assessments for all activities with detailed inspections across our purpose-designed centres. All staff receive first-class training in our rigorous operating procedures and we continually review our safety policies to ensure they are always up-to-date and comply with industry best practice. In addition we risk assess all of our excursions and visit the locations we take our students to in advance to ensure extra safety during all offsite activities.

Total careWe take our responsibilities very seriously, maintaining the highest standards of supervision and pastoral care, and we continually monitor and improve our procedures. Individual students have two nominated guardians to look after them during their stay with us and we have dedicated Guest Services Managers on site to assist teachers and group leaders where necessary. There is a 24 hour duty manager and staff available throughout the night.

First aid & welfareAll centres have qualified first aiders on site, available 24-hours a day. In addition, each centre has a dedicated Welfare Manager to help where needed who is experienced in dealing with every day issues facing children away from home, such as homesickness. We have well-established links with all local hospitals, doctors and dentist surgeries, should the need arise.

Page 53: Kings wood Int Brochure 2014

PassportsDuring their stay, groups and individuals are encouraged to use our secure, on-site safe to store passports and valuable documents, such as flight tickets.

Pocket moneyWe recommend that children bring a maximum of £10 per day of spending money. There is a small shop at each centre with souvenirs and a selection of snacks and drinks. We offer a ‘bank’ style facility during Camp Beaumont periods, where children can keep their money safe, withdrawing small amounts for snacks or taking a little more for day trips and excursions.

LaundryA free laundry service is available to all guests staying with us for longer than one week. Due to the adventurous nature of the activities we advise that children bring plenty of old clothes with them!

Transfers and arrivalsWe arrange group or individual transfers to meet your requirements. Our standard arrival day is Sunday, so groups or individuals arriving on a week day may have a slightly altered programme but we always do our best to fit you in. We ask for individual drop-offs to take place between the hours of 15.00 – 17.00 as far as possible, and that children are collected between 09.00 –11.00 on the day of departure.

NEED TO KNOWSpecial dietary requirementsWe are more than happy to cater for any guests with food allergies or specific dietary requirements – just let us know in advance. Some of our centres are equipped with separate kitchens and also cater for specific religious requests.

Age groups We aim to split children into age-specific groups for accommodation, classes and activities. However, if siblings (of the same gender) would like to share accommodation, or you feel that your 11 year old would feel more comfortable in a group with younger children or your 13 year old would like to join friends in the 14-15 year old group, then an ‘overlap’ between groups can be discussed on a case by case basis. Please note that all our rooms are same gender and it is not possible for brothers and sisters to share accommodation. For legal reasons we are also unable to offer single rooms to any children.

Equipment and Clothing All specialist equipment (conforming to British or European standards) is supplied by the centre, as are approved buoyancy aids and lifejackets, which must be worn for all watersports. We continually update our safety equipment to meet high standards and reflect best practices. We provide a recommended list of clothing for the adventure activities in the confirmation

documents, but as a minimum we ask students to bring long sleeved t-shirts, long trousers and appropriate footwear such as sports shoes for the activity part of the programme. In the winter months it is also sensible to pack warmer clothes and wet gear.

Communication Whilst we are happy for children to bring their mobile phones with them, these are not covered on our insurance for loss and theft, and we do not allow children to make calls during their timetabled sessions. Phone numbers, email and postal addresses are provided for all our centres, and parents are also given emergency contact details. We can arrange for children to wait by our phones for pre-arranged incoming calls and we can pass on messages should you wish to leave any.

Camp Beaumont - Camp kit If you wish to, you can choose to purchase the Camp Beaumont camp kit, which has everything you could possibly need to stay comfortable, cool and ready for action. It includes one long-sleeved t-shirt, one short-sleeved t-shirt, a watch, wallet, water bottle and backpack.

Can we visit before deciding?Yes, of course – just call us to arrange a guided tour of any of our centres.

Will students take part in all activities? We cannot guarantee they will take part in everything as there is so much on offer but we do aim to fit in as many activities as possible. Occasionally, poor weather means we have to put some activities on hold but all centres have indoor facilities so there is always plenty to do.

Can students change their programme at the centre?Yes, so long as there is availability and we are given good notice. You will be asked to pay the difference in any cost and an administrative fee may apply but if you are happy with the change, we can arrange it as soon as possible.

What happens if my child has chosen to focus on their favourite activity but wants to go on an excursion at the same time?Your child can choose to miss part of their chosen activity to go on an excursion but we will not be able to offer you a refund. Our excursions take place on certain days and times to fit with the rest of centre and the venue opening times, so there may sometimes be an overlap.

Will my child have many opportunities to speak English?Yes, plenty. All activities and entertainment are carried out in English and your child will be staying alongside children often from a wide range of countries, including the UK, so there is plenty of opportunity to use English. During cultural excursions, children complete worksheets to help them practise their written language skills.

How do you deal with welfare issues, like homesickness? We know how important the welfare of the students is, so each centre has a dedicated Welfare Manager on site. They are great at turning tears into smiles and helping all children get fully involved. If our staff have any concerns they will, of course, contact you. Equally, you should call our team if you have concerns.

Do you have a Code of Behaviour?Yes we do – you will receive a copy of this in your pre-visit documentation and this should be signed and returned before arrival. Children are also made aware of our centre rules upon arrival and reminded of these where appropriate throughout their stay.

How do I contact my child? We have lessons and activities planned throughout the day so children do not have much free time beyond our scheduled sessions. The first weekend is also a really important time for all children to settle into centre routines. However, if it is necessary to get in touch with your child, you can email us or phone the centre, we will then do our best to arrange a phone call for the same day.

Can my child take their mobile phone?Yes, if you feel it is necessary but, to help prevent homesickness and potential problems caused by possible loss, theft or damage, we do not encourage mobile phone use. We are unable to accept responsibility for mobile phones and have clear policies on their use, in particular that they may not be used during lessons, activities, meal times or after children have retired for the night.

What does my child need to bring? We provide a full packing list after confirmation of booking. We recommend that children do not bring expensive electronic equipment with them such as iPads and iPods, laptops etc. as we cannot look after them and our insurance does not cover them. We provide all the specialist safety equipment needed for our activities but children should bring suitable clothing, as well as a good waterproof jacket and suitable footwear.

What is the food like? Our menu is developed for the fast paced activity holiday environment, offering freshly prepared meals with varied menus and a number of choices, including vegetarian options, at each meal time. Sample menus are available on request. When children are off site on a tour, packed meals are provided. We are able to cater for most dietary requirements and allergies, please let us know of any special requests at the time of booking.

We are committed to making our holidays accessible to as many guests as possible but upon occasion may recommend a day camp holiday in place of a residential stay and very occasionally We may not be able to provide the service required. Where such information is provided to Us promptly and as required under these Conditions and We cancel any Booking made You shall be entitled to a full refund of any Deposit or part of the Price relating to the affected part of the Booking as the case may be.6.7 On request You shall provide Us with written confirmation from Your Child’s General Practitioner confirming the suitability of the Holiday for Your Child with particular reference to such considerations as physical access, successful participation and health and safety.6.8 We reserve the right to exclude any Child or cancel the Booking for any Child at any time prior to the Arrival Date or between the Arrival Date and the Departure Date if We in Our absolute discretion have reason to believe that important information has not been provided to Us. In such circumstances Cancellation Charges shall be payable as set out at clause 4.6.9 Where We provide transportation as part of the Booking You and/or Your Child shall abide by the Travel Rules . Failure to do so may result in our declining to provide transportation services for your Child or in making alternative transportation arrangements at your cost. Serious breach may result in exclusion of your Child in accordance with clause 6.5. All transport

routes are subject to minimum numbers and availability, and times may change depending on operational requirements. Any changes to routes or times will be notified to You as soon as is reasonable and where possible a suitable alternative will be provided or a refund will be offered.

6.10 In an instance where a child is seen by our first aiders and has been deemed to be well, if a parent then requests the child to be taken to a doctors’ surgery or hospital and a taxi journey is involved, you may be liable for the cost of the journey. Where this is the case, we will endeavour to contact you to authorise the payment.

6.11 Supervised off-site visits may be included in some Holidays without prior notice to You. If You do not wish your Child to participate in such off- site visits (which may include, amongst other things, beach walks, local shop visits, etc) it will be Your responsibility to inform us prior to the Arrival Date.

7. COMPLAINTSIf any problem is experienced between the Arrival date and the Departure Date the matter should be immediately reported to the camp manager to allow Us the opportunity to rectify any problem raised. If it is not resolved You should write to Us within 28 days of the Departure Date and We will endeavour to find a satisfactory solution. You can find full details of our complaints procedure on our website at www.campbeaumont.co.uk.
