KIPPA-RING STATE SCHOOL
Newsletter
Term 3, Week 5
12 August, 2020
Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Members of the Kippa-Ring State School Community,
Welcome to Term 3 Week 5!
Road Safety Week 23-28 August 2020
Kippa will be working with Officer Angela to educate our
students about road safety during this designated week. I
would like to remind you of your responsibility to role
model road safety as you drop off and pick up your child at
Kippa each day. Please ensure you follow our stop, drop
and go expectations, including ensuring your child gets out
of the car on the passenger side of the car. It concerns me
to see students getting in and out of the car on the
roadside into oncoming traffic.
Let’s work together to keep our Kippa Kids safe.
When children are permitted to ride in the front seat
Age Notes
0 – 4
years
Queensland law requires that children be seated in
a rear seat unless the vehicle has only one row of
seats (such as a single cab utility).
4 – 7
years
Children may be seated in the front if the vehicle
has only one row of seats, or if all the seating
positions behind are occupied by children under 7.
7 – 16
years Children may ride in the front seat.

Have your say! Disability Standards for Education –
2020 Review
The Australian Government has commenced public
consultation regarding the Disability Standards for
Education.
Students with disability, their families and carers,
advocates, educators and the public are invited to provide
feedback to inform the 2020 review.
A discussion paper has been developed with guiding
questions to help you have your say.
For more information visit the Consultation Hub.
Consultations close midnight Friday, 25 September.
Until next time, keep safe.
Regards,
Lindy-lou Brown
Principal
FROM THE DEPUTY
Hi everyone,
Welcome to Week 5! We're moving rapidly towards the
holidays again.
Kippa WOW (Ways of Working) focus of the
fortnight:
This fortnight we are working on the following goal - I use
confidence and organisation to work independently and
show initiative.
This means we are working on self-management and
independence by using a range of strategies. We can be
confident in ourselves and our abilities, be organised and
draw on previous skills we have learned such as
persistence and resilience to keep trying. Parents can
support this in the home by letting children pack and carry
their own bags for school, give a few daily chores and
encourage children to have a go and its ok to make
mistakes.
Behaviour Expectations:
We have had several students and parents mention some
very inappropriate behaviours here at Kippa-Ring State
School.
To ensure the culture here at Kippa is inclusive and
welcoming, it is unacceptable for students (or anyone for
that matter) to make racist or homophobic comments. We
want our school to feel safe and positive for all as we
consider ourselves very lucky to have such a diverse group
of students and families.
The Year 5 and 6 students met with me last week to discuss
the inappropriateness of these comments and the
consequences that will go with using them. We also
discussed the inappropriateness of "gang" type groups and
"eshays". Both are affiliated with anti-social behaviour and
are not appropriate in a school.
Students are discouraged from this type of behaviour and
attitudes as they do not align with our school rules; I am
Safe, Respectful, Cooperative and A Responsible Learner
and we are Buddies, not bullies.
Parents can follow up at home by having conversations
with their children about what activities they do at
lunchtime and their students towards other students and
staff.
Keep healthy, keep safe

OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE Helping Hands Network has joined the Kippa-Ring State
School community to deliver onsite Outside School Hours
Care – before school, after school as well as during school
holiday periods and staff
development days.
It is a licencing requirement that any
child using the service must be
enrolled. As there is no fee to enrol
with Helping Hands, it is
recommended that all children are
enrolled so that the service is available for your family,

even if only on an emergency needs basis. You can enrol
online through the parent portal at:

LATE ARRIVALS
The School day starts at 8.50am each morning. Students must be at school by the 8.40am bell. This ensures an organised start to the day. Being on time is a positive habit for life.
Children arriving after this time are missing important schooling, and interrupting the learning of students who have arrived on time.
The ‘Stop, Drop and Go Zones,’ on Elizabeth Avenue and Korsch Street are continuing for Term 3 and are manned by staff between 8.15am and 8.40am.
For their safety and wellbeing, NO student should be on the school grounds before 8.15am, as there is NO supervision available before this time.
Students arriving after 8.15am will be directed to their supervised waiting areas.
By the 8.50am bell, students are expected to be ready for learning in their classrooms.
It is an important legal
responsibility for parents to have
their children at school on time.
On time arrivals, and excellent
attendance makes a huge
difference to student habits, and
learning outcomes.
All students arriving to school after 8.50am must present
at the Office to collect a “late slip.”
GET SET FOR PREP 2020 Prep is the first year of school and
provides the foundation for your
child's education. It is compulsory
for Queensland children to
undertake Prep prior to Year 1. Prep
is a full-time program in primary
schools and has a defined
curriculum.
Children born between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016 are
eligible to start Prep in 2021.
School tours are available with the Principal or Deputy
Principal by appointment. Please contact the Office on
3897 5333 to start your child’s enrolment process.
UNWELL STUDENTS
For the safety and wellbeing of our
school community, unwell children
will no longer be able to ‘rest’ in the
sick bay, as previously done.
If your child presents at the sick bay
stating that they are feeling unwell, especially those
students presenting with cold or flu-like symptoms,
parents/caregivers will be contacted and asked to collect
their child immediately. Please ensure your contact
details, and those of your child’s emergency contacts, are
up to date.
Directive from QLD Health – “If an educator or staff
member suspects a child in their care is unwell with a
contagious illness, they must notify the parent or guardian.
The parent or guardian must collect the child as soon as
possible, and the child must not return to the school or
early childhood service until they are well or enough time
has passed that they are not contagious.”

If your child is sick, we ask that you do not send them to
school, as you will most likely be called to collect them.
If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please
notify the school via the following options:
Student Absence Line Telephone - 3987 5360
or send a text message to 0429 314 309.
Unexplained absences are recorded on your child’s report cards.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Visitor and Volunteer Sign in Procedure
We have recently updated our school’s “Sign In” procedure
for visitors and volunteers to the school.
If you are visiting the school for a meeting with the
Principal or a Teacher, or are a Learning Support volunteer
in the classroom and/or are helping out at the Tuckshop &
Uniform Shop, we ask that you sign in at the Office using
the ‘yellow’ book.
It is important that you also fill out a
COVID-19 ‘Self Declaration Form’ and
hand it in to the Office ladies. This form
requires you to truthfully answer ‘yes’
or ‘no’ questions in relation to COVID-
19, and a new form must be filled out
each time you are on site visiting or volunteering at Kippa-
Ring SS.
Please stay at home if you are feeling unwell, and/or are
showing signs of a cold or flu (temperatures, sore throat,
cough, runny nose.) The health and safety of the staff and
students at Kippa-Ring SS is our number 1 priority.
Updating Contact Details
Have you moved house recently? Have your contact details
or those of your Emergency contacts changed? If so, it is
important to update them with
the school. Please advise the
Office by calling 3897 5333.
Early Collection & Messages to Students
Early Collection - If you are wanting to collect your child
from school early, we ask that you please call the Office
first, so that we can arrange to have your child waiting for
you.
Early collection during break time can be difficult, as
classrooms are locked, and class teachers are usually on
duty in another area.
If we are notified earlier that a
parent/caregiver or other
nominated person is collecting at a
specified time, we can ensure your
child has their belongings with
them and are ready to go.
Break times are as follows:
First Break - 10.50am to 11.45am
Second Break - 1.30pm to 2.10pm
Messages to Students – Whilst we are happy to pass
messages onto students during the day, we ask that these
messages be advised before 2.30pm. We cannot
guarantee that messages received after this time will reach
students before the end of the day.
We thank you for your cooperation in these matters.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
DON’T FORGET TO ORDER YOUR SCHOOL PHOTOS!!
School Photos will be happening in Term 3! Advancedlife
will be coming to the school on Tuesday 18 August to
photograph our students.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and health & safety
measures, students will be photographed individually for
their class photos, instead of the traditional whole group
photo.
Orders for packages and sibling photos can be placed
securely online at www.advancedlife.com.au using our
school’s unique 9 digit advanceordercode: N6N GNY 8HE
Photo envelopes that were sent home towards the start of
the year, can be used for cash payments. If using this
option, please note that the correct amount must be
enclosed in the envelope, as no change can be given, nor
are EFTPOS facilities available.
We will have a limited supply of envelopes available at the
Office, for those parents/caregivers wanting to pay by cash.
Portrait and group package orders will be accepted

up to and on the day of photography.
Sibling photographs must placed no later than the
day before photography day, and photos will only
be taken if an order has been received.
Should you have any queries concerning school
photographs or online ordering, please direct them via
email to: [email protected]
COLOUR RUN
HAVE YOU HEARD???? We are doing it again!!
We are holding the “School Colour Fun Run” this term, which is our school’s major fundraiser. So we thank you in advance for your support. The last two years we raised over $30,000 which went towards air conditioning our Resource Centre. Money raised this year will go towards Technology Resources for our Kippa Kids to use.
The School Colour Fun Run will be held on Thursday 17th September and will be a part of ‘Rewards Day.’ Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, parents/caregivers and other members of the community will not be able to attend or participate. Your child will come home this week with a pamphlet outlining all of the information you will need to get set up. The easiest way to help your child raise money and to reach your fundraising goal sooner is to register for online fundraising. Here’s how:
Create a Student Profile Page at www.schoolfundraising.com.au which is unique to you.
There are also some great features like recording your sponsorships and selecting your prize goal.
We are looking forward to another great Colour Run! Woohoo!!
KIPPA PLAYGROUP
Kippa Playgroup is back!!! It returned on Friday 7 August,
and will continue on Friday mornings from 8.30am to
10.30am in the school Hall. Come and join Mrs Shannon &
Miss Cath for some awesome fun.
Playgroup dates for Term 3 will be Friday 7th, 14th, 21st &
28th of August and 11th of September (the 4th of September
is a student free day).
Due to COVID-19, we have had to ensure Playgroup stays a
safe and healthy environment for all that attend. It is now
a requirement for parents/caregivers to fill out a “COVID-
19 Self-Declaration Form” on arrival, and to make use of
the provided hand sanitiser.
Playgroup for Term 4 will return on Friday 16th October.
We are looking forward to seeing all of our Playgroup
families again.

HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION
INTERSCHOOL SPORT
Interschool Sport commences in Week 6 of this term, Friday 21 August and will run for 9 weeks, concluding on Friday 13 November (excluding September 4 & 18), for students in Years 5 & 6 who nominated their interest to participate.
Girls’ Netball – Redcliffe Netball Association Courts, Maine Road, Clontarf
Boys’ Oztag – Mueller College, Morris Road, Rothwell
In order to participate, there will be costs involved due to bus hire. These costs must be met in order for the interschool sport program to be successful. Kippa-Ring State School pays the cost of registration for the 2020 District sports activities. The cost per student is $50.00
Permission forms, were sent home with participating students last week. Please return all of the forms, with payment to the Office by Friday 14 August.
Students are required to meet behaviour standards both before and during the sports season, both at school and on the field/court. To monitor behaviour, we have included this semester a “Kippa-Ring State School Sport Agreement.”
Parents/caregivers and students are asked to sign and return the form to the Office, along with the permission and medical forms. This document outlines the behaviour expectations of the student and keeps track of behaviour issues in class, on the playground and at sport. Every student is given three chances. If a student has three behaviour issues for the week, they will not attend Interschool Sport that week. If a student misbehaves at Interschool Sport, they will not attend the following week.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have been advised that parents/caregivers and/or other spectators are not permitted to attend any Redcliffe District School Sporting event. It is preferred that Parents/caregivers do not collect their child from the sporting venues, unless it is an emergency situation, and they have notified the school first.
Students will not be able to attend interschool sport if they have been unwell in the lead up to, or wake up on the day of competition feeling unwell. Students are to stay at home if they are feeling unwell, or displaying any COVID symptoms.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Queensland Road Safety Week 24-28 August
When we’re behind the wheel, driving safely should be our
number one priority. You might be surprised to know that
dangerous habits like tailgating, not giving way, and
running red lights, contributed to half of all serious crashes
in Queensland.
The Fatal 5 (speeding, mobile phone distraction, drink
driving, fatigue and not wearing a seatbelt) also
contributed to over one third of serious crashes where
people were seriously injured or lost their life, from 2014
to 2018.
What can you do? Qld Road Safety week is around the
corner! Show your support by kicking those bad driving
habits and make our roads a safer place for everyone.
