Support Unit

Support Unit students thoroughly enjoyed performing at the Carols Night. They were very excited and sang well.

On Tuesday, 17th December, we are looking forward to our excursion to Como Park. We are going to have fun and have lunch with our friends.

We are going to enjoy playing in the new playground.

On Thursday, 3/6S are going to Gymea to buy the ingredients to prepare our lunch. We will make sandwiches and eat fruit.

The Support Unit students have had the chance to meet new students for 2014 as they have been to visit. We all hope our new students will be happy at Kirrawee P.S.

Stage 2

Stage Two have had a busy end to the year. The Stage 2 teachers would like to thank the students for their performance at the Christmas Concert. It was great to see such a tremendous turn out and your Aussie inspired carols truly reflected the theme of the evening.

Stage 2 would also like to thank Mrs Hewitt for her dedication with 4H throughout the year as regrettably she is taking leave for the duration of the year as a result of illness. We thank Mr Stevenson for stepping in and

taking 4H for the remainder of the year.

Mrs Oostdam

Stage 3:

I would like to thank all of the Stage 3 students for their assistance in preparing a wonderful Christmas Concert. Thank you for your efforts in learning the songs and for bringing a 'disco-like' ambiance to your performance. You certainly had the younger students up on the dance floor.

Well as this is our last newsletter for 2013 I would like to take the opportunity to farewell the Year 6 students and wish them all the very best for high school and beyond. Speaking on behalf of Ms Taylor and myself we would like to thank Year 6 for being a grade with enthusiasm, motivation, drive, and a keen sense of humour. We hope that your future is filled with success and happiness, and that your love for learning continues as the years ahead unfold.

Mrs Oostdam

Subway day was a great success,

the children all seemed to enjoy

their meals. Thank you to Jodie

McKenzie and Megan Taylor for

your wonderful help on the day.

The canteen is running down a lot

of the stock so please be aware

that children may not get the

particular drink or ice-block that

they order if I have run out. We

are particularly low on the

flavoured milks.

Thank you to Orini Webber,

Wendy Hunter and Megan Allsop

for your help.

If anyone would like to volunteer

for next year please return the

form, we would love to have you!

Please be aware that we are closed

on Friday 13th December and also

on Wednesday 18th December.

Thank you to all the wonderful

volunteers we have had this year.

the canteen cannot run without all

your help.

I wish you all a very Merry

Christmas and enjoy the holidays,

I know I certainly will!

The canteen will reopen for 2014

Chaplain’s Corner

Congratulations friends !

We have almost made it to the end of 2013!

It has certainly been a year of blessings and sadnesses. For those with sad hearts, we are so mindful of your pain as we approach Christmas and we long to share your burden and ease your pain. Let us all be sensitive to our friends who need extra TLC just now.

A BIG THANK YOU for friends who have contributed to our giving tree with wrapped goodies for families who are experiencing hardship this Christmas.

This is helping your children to reach out in love to friends in need sharing from their plenty and giving to those that have so little. There is still more time to give.

There is a bitter-sweet feeling at this time of the year because those seniors who we love and respect will be moving on to various High Schools in the area – sad for us – sweet for them, as they travel new and exciting paths. But before that time we will be fare welling them at the year six farewell on Thursday night. We wish them every blessing for a happy and successful transition into High School.

There are other families moving from the area and children who will be changing schools. We offer our encouragement and best wishes as you leave us at Kirrawee. We will miss you and would love to keep in touch.

We have had an important year of learning together at our four Parenting Seminars this year. Many parents and grandparents have been able to learn from Melissa Honor of Interrelate, how to handle family issues with more confidence and understanding. Next year Melissa will be presenting a seminar each term with family in focus. She will be speaking on some topics that focus on different issues parents have been asking for as well as those that they have found so helpful this year. Encourage your friends to come, I will advise you of these in our first newsletter in 2014.

Take time these holidays to ‘stop and smell the roses’. Allow yourself some downtime with your children. If possible choose relaxing and interesting activities to share with them and other family members. Try not to over indulge your little ones – it’s tempting but not good for them because they lose the value of giving and receiving and can become quite selfish and not thankful – remember ‘ a thankful heart is a happy heart’.

Encourage your children by always treating them with respect. A child who receives respect is less likely to treat others disrespectfully and is less likely to accept disrespectful behaviour from others.

Nurture self esteem.

Help your child to develop strong social skills.

Nurture empathy – the ability to stand in someone else’s shoes.

Teach them the difference between ‘teasing’ and ‘taunting’

Help your child to be sensitive to the feelings of others.

Model the behaviour you would like to see in your child especially when feelings are high.

Set boundaries within which your child can feel safe and in control.

Above all have a beautiful Christmas with your loved ones and a safe happy holiday. We want to see all our young friends and older friends in January 2014.

A thankful heart is a happy heart

With love

Ina Cook

The last school banking this year will be Wednesday December 11th. School banking will re-commence Term 1, Week 2. We will do our best to get all the outstanding reward prizes to the children before the end of the year, but we are dependent on stock availability from the bank. If you have returned your reward voucher but don't receive it this year, we will get it to them as soon as possible next year. If your child has banked 10 times, but not redeemed their reward they need to fill out their voucher and lodge it before the end of school this year. We will also be holding another account opening day early in term 1 if you would like to get your children involved in this great scheme, but just didn't have the chance in 2013. More information will be provided next year. Lastly your support for school banking since we launched has been fantastic - We have 65 registered bankers, who are all learning the benefits and rewards of consistent savings and hopefully for us parents a bit of bribery to do their chores and get their pocket money. We are looking forward handing out even more rewards prizes for our little bankers in next year. Kind Regards, P&C
