TITLE Kisan Credit Card
Important Points and Reason To address the credit needs of resource-poor
farmers. Government of India introduced Kisan Credit Card
(KCC) Scheme in August 1998. With the objective of providing timely and
adequate credit to the farmers in a flexible manner.
Three agencies entrusted to implement the KCC Scheme were commercial banks, cooperative banks and regional rural banks (RRBs).
Contn……… As you all know Indian farmers are small and
marginal farmers. In case of small and marginal farmers Marketed
surplus is greater then marketable surplus. So at the time of crop production farmers will not
have sufficient amount of money required for the production.
To know how this KCC has helped farmers in providing adequate credit.
RBI set up Shri R. V. Gupta committee in December 1997
KCCS launched in August, 1998 Scheme formulated by NABARD The scheme provides credit for ancillary activities
related to crop production. Farmers to be provided with a Kisan Credit Card and a
pass book or card-cum-pass book
Limit to be fixed on the basis of operational holding, cropping pattern and scale of finance
Repaid within a maximum period of 12 months Card valid for 3-5 years. Credit limits could be enhanced to take care of
increase in costs, change in cropping pattern, etc Security, margin, rate of interest, etc. as per RBI
norms Withdrawals through slips/ cheques accompanied
by card and passbook.
