KFADD Project Plan 2003-2004 Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Project

Kiwanis Against Drinking and Driving Purpose: To focus on the dangers and impact of drinking and driving.

Mission: To educate the public and Kiwanis Family members on the dangers and impact of drinking and driving.

Desired Outcomes: 1. To partner with all MADD organizations located in the PNW District to educate the

public and all Kiwanis Family members. 2. To partner with local and state police departments to bring anti-drinking and

driving education to local schools. 3. To have each Kiwanis Club present a Drinking and Driving Programs to their

membership, focusing on the dangers and impact of drinking and driving. 4. To have sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs of Builders, Key, Aktion, and Circle K Clubs

present a minimum of one program on the dangers and impact of drinking and driving.

5. To have each Key Club, Circle K, and Builder Club establish a Student Against Drunk Driving Contract Campaign with the target of 100% K-Family Club participation and 90% student body participation.

6. Kiwanis Family Members who have first hand knowledge of or who have been impacted by drinking and driving should be encouraged to participate in programs to help educate on the dangers and impact of drunk driving.

Suggested Events and Activities: 1. Club Programs on the dangers and impact of drinking and driving. Programs on the

medical impact of early childhood brain damage may be coordinated with other Young Children, Priority One programs.

2. Students Against Drunk Driving Contract Campaign. (Student Letter of Agreement) (Submit the Contract signatures to District Chair)

3. Poster/Logo Contest: (encourage or sponsor in elementary and secondary schools) 4. Encourage purchase and wearing of KFADD pins by all Kiwanis Family members. 5. Distribute Red Ribbons to all Kiwanis, Key Club, Circle K, Aktion, K-Kids, and

Builders Clubs to be placed on car radio antennas. 6. Assist MADD with other Red Ribbon events within your local community. 7. Make Red Ribbons available at all Kiwanis events. 8. Submit articles for club bulletins and newsletters. 9. Create Division-wide education and information campaign to the public and schools

about the dangers and impact of drunk driving. Involvement should include local media (radio, TV, newspapers, etc.) and those members of our Kiwanis Families who have been personally affected by drinking and driving.

Other: 1. Lt. Governors are encouraged to wear a Red Ribbon and a MADD pin on the lapel of

their jacket throughout the year and, in turn, they should encourage each member of their clubs to also wear the pins.

2. Those Clubs and Divisions with web sites are encouraged to have a section on their page to present information on the dangers and impact of drinking and driving.

3. Lt. Governors and Club Presidents are encouraged to submit drinking and driving stories, event summaries, pictures, and other project materials to the Project Chair for inclusion in submissions to the Builder, the Project Newsletter and to the Kiwanis Magazine.

4. K-Kids and Builders Clubs are encouraged to participate in a poster contest. The winning designs will be made into T-shirts. (Watch for promotional flyers)

All activities should be reported on monthly activity reports with service hours and funds raised or expended.

I the under signed student at understand that it is dangerous to not only me and those who may be with me or who may come in contact with me if I have an alcoholic beverage or use controlled substances and then get behind the wheel of an automobile or other motorized vehicle. I make a promise to my parents, friend, and particularly myself, that I will not drink or use a controlled substance at any time. I make a promise to my parents; friends and particularly myself that should any friend of mine have a drink or controlled substance that I will do everything in my power to prevent that individual from operating any motorized vehicle.
