FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK LOCATED AT SPANKY’S HOT

ROD SHOP.Sat. 11/2/2006 1700hrs. Hello all. I am squeezing

in a few words just to keep the ball rolling and not to leave the chosen ones (you) without a February Klaxon, during my time of Hot Rod building stress. I am half way between spraying to coats of colour on the finished parts as I type. As you should be aware, I am attempting the near impossible to get my rod back on the road in just 12 weeks of after hours and weekends. I have moved the editors desk and bed down the road to Spanky’s to save traveling time. I am down to eight weeks!! Yikes. This edition is a bit thinner. A LITE edition due to time available. Thanks to Gibby for sending some photos to “pad it out”. Although only padding it out with little text, years away from now, this edition will still be a historical reference with those photos. So good onya Neil. Thanks to Blossom Possum too. Without time on my side, I cannot do a report on Big Al’s Poker Run this edition. That too, is happening now as I type and another sacrifice I have had to make.

Pause.... Back to do some more painting....1810hrs. Back again. One more coat tomorrow and the body shell, dicky seat lid and rear guards are done! The other stuff isn’t even started! Sun. 0535hrs. Up for an early start. Gotta get the paint on before it gets too hot. Hasn’t this been one of the best summers in living memory, so far. Everyday almost between 27 and 34 degrees. A bit of rain for the weeds too. Working down at Spankys has been delightful. I remember finishing the coupe off in the Maylands shed back in summer 1981. It was so hot, the bodywork was almost untouchable and that was in the shed. Sweat (beer) pored from the body while just sitting still. This time around it has been so much better and good painting weather. OOPs is that the time? Gotta go.. Until next month, hopefully...... They don’t build themselves....... Extreme E

Mandurah Rod & Custom Club Annual Cruise Well it doesn’t seem like a whole year since we last reported on this annual event, but here it is again! The Mandurah club’s annual event is always well planned and takes the cruise to points of interest before reaching the final destination. This year the popular event took about 30 cruisers for morning tea at the hanger of Fighter Combat International at Jandakot Airport. Rodders generally like old stuff, restored stuff and technology of days gone by, so the hangar with several restored air craft was an interesting attraction. Mind you, the immaculate hanger equally impressive. The final destination was the lush green of Manning Park in Spearwood. Enjoy Gibby’s photos

Above and far far right: The hangar at Jandakot was immaculate. Check out the new club bowling shirt with old T shirt underneath. A new fashion statement! But will Dress Code Copper Yvonne Mulder approve?

Page 5: Klaxon February 2006 ppp - Cyber Hot Rodders · Nostalgia Drags run to meet at the club at 10 am on 18th Feb. Cometition Report inlc Drags & Salt Lake Racing : Nostalgia Drags- the

The hangar would suit any rodder’s back yard.

MISCELLANEOUS PADDING

Left, circled. A huge dinosaur poo at risk of swallowing a small child.

Above: At Manning Park, walkers obviously let their dinosaurs of their leash to run rampant and do their toilet stuff anywhere. There was on such sample at the Mandurah R&CC run. Noting the danger, someone said “put a bucket on it”. So Neil obliged with his.

Left; Seen at speedway, long time rodder and midget, the irrepressable Barry Batten. Rebuilt pickup runs a ford computer motor. I like the Ozzie flag touch , but was is that other rag in the back of the ute? Ed.

KLAXONIAN HUMOUR An Irishman was drinking at the pub all night.

The bartender came up to him and told him that the bar was closing. So the Irishman stood up to leave and fell flat on his face.

He tried to stand up one more time with the same result. So he figured he'd just crawl outside, hang out for a while, get some

fresh air and hopefully that would sober him up.Once outside he stood up and fell again right on his face.

So he decided to crawl the 4 blocks to his home and when he arrived at the door he tried one more time with the same results.Exhausted, he then gave up and started crawling to the bedroom.

When he reached his bed he tried one more time to stand up. This time he managed to pull himself upright but he quickly fell

right into the bed and fell sound asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

The next morning, he woke up with his wife standing over him shouting at him.

"So, you've been out drinking again!!""What makes you say that?" He asked as he put on an innocent

look."The pub called, you left your wheelchair there again.(I am not Irish, and it was the 40th birthday party! Ed.)

WHERE WOULD YOU BE IF:You have all the money your heart desires...You have no worries.....You come home and the finest meal is awaiting for you...Your bathwater has been run...You have the perfect kids......Your partner is awaiting for you with open arms and kisses.......So where would you be??????????????????

SPEEDWAY CRUISE The ASRF was recently asked to supply cars for exhibition and to drive speedway drivers in a lap of honour around the Quit Motorplex Speedway. A good collection of cars arrived for the event and a night of speedway action. Digital-Cam Gibby was there to get a few Pix for Klaxon readers.

Above: a row of rods at speedway on another perfect Perth summer’s day. Rodders from many clubs and individuals attended, which made it a great time to “catch up”.

Some Dribble from Blossom.

Extreme Editor, Extreme Eric is Extremely busy working on stroking or rubbing his Willys or whatever it is he is doing at Spankys Rod Shop ( there has got to be another story in that name) this article has been provided to relieve Extreme E of trying to fill that collectable rag “The Klaxon” with a bit of new Rubbish whilst he is working on the Rod. WHY a ‘33 and not a ’34 Ford Roadster you may well ask!The First reason is that’s what I’ve got, second reason is I’ve got to go one year older than Lars the ’34 Guru, Lars will tell you the Ford advertising 1934 states ,“Proved in ’33, Improved in ‘34”. Some of the differences in the similar looking 33 / 34 Fords are; Hood Louvres Curved on the 33 and straight on the 34, Polished grille trim is Narrow and curved on the 33, and wide and straight on the 34, Crank hole is Oval on 33 and shield shape on the 34, one handle to the 33 Hood and 2 on the 34, some of the other differences are ; Hub caps, Radiator Caps, Head Light Buckets, Grille Emblem, Where am I up to on the Roadster? After 10 months of Bugger all, Oops! Very little work since the first inspection, I’ve been inspired by Gary and Helen King’s Roadster 7 year build. Ian Willis down Cookernup way has the cowl is doing a BIG 5 ½” cut back in the fire wall to fit in the 312 Y Block, well he is supposed to be doing it, Ian if you are reading this put down the Mag and get back to the shed. I’ve also started with some body work at home which goes like this, Bob Reader shows me what to do & I try it on Saturdays and Bob fixes it up on Mondays and Thursdays then we start again next Saturday. I’ve purchased a few items that I won’t need for about 4 years but they are so shiny I just had to buy them now, you Know things of necessity like alloy finned Thunderbird valve covers for the ‘57 312 CI Y Block, 3 Frog mouth air intakes for the 94’s, shiny door handles, and a Deck lid handle, Gennie shifter for the ’59 Fordamatic 3 speed tranny, now I’ve got lots and lots to go on with, steel out the body and doors, overhaul the 3 x 94 carbies ( got the kits ) but need a few bits,Help! Need Butterflies & linkages / extended throttle body

shafts. Numerous parts to scale and clean and coat. Hang the doors, fit the locks. Then there has been the tools I’ve spent about 1/3rd the project cost in retooling that also slows the work when the cash flow get dipped into. So far I’m on track, years to build x $budget per year = Hod Rod built in about 8 Years hmmmm better get my wife to get a third job!Hope this has helped you out EXTREME Eric now the wait is on until Eric can “SHOW US YA WILLYS”!BLOSS.

Left: 1934 ford roadster. See the difference? (Who cares? Ed.)

Above: 1933 ford Roadster. No No, it ain’t Bloss’s. Just an incentive shot for him . Hmmm, it has triples too!

SCARBOROUGH ROCK n ROLL The annual Scarborough Beach Rock n Roll day was on again and the ASRF was once again asked to put some retro vehicles on display. So they did. This event has been running for approximately five years now and features several live performances. There is naturally a dance floor for those with functional hips. Gibby was there with his trusty digicam to grab a few pix for the Klaxon readership.
