Notes on the documentKnauf System Data Sheets are the planning and application basis for the planners and professional installers with the application of Knauf systems. The contained information and specifications, constructions, details and stated products are based, unless otherwise stated, on the Certificates of Usability (e.g. National Technical Test Certificate (abP) and/or German National Technical Approvals (abZ)) valid at the date they are published as well as on the applicable standards. In addition, design and structural requirements and those regarding building physics (fire protection and sound insulation) are considered. The contained construction details are examples and can be used in a similar way for various cladding variants of the respective system. At the same time, the demands made on fire resistance and/or sound insulation as well as any necessary additional measures and/or limitations must be observed.

Intended use of Knauf systemsPlease observe the following:

Caution

Knauf systems may only be used in the applications as described in the Knauf documents. In case of third-party products or components, they must be recommended or approved by Knauf. Flawless application of products/systems assumes proper transport, storage, assembly, installation and maintenance.

General instructions for Knauf systemsConstruction notesMovement jointsMovement joints of the main structure should be integrated into the construction of the fire walls. Movement joints are to be installed every 15 m on continuous partitions.Ball impact safetyBall impact safety is assured.

Area of applicationFire walls as fire barriers for the termination of buildings (building party walls) or for sectioning buildings into fire compartments (interior fire walls) must be sufficiently long to prevent the spread of fire to other buildings or fire compartments. Fire walls must be fire-resistant even under additional mechanical impact stress and consist of non-combustible materials (fire resistance class EI 90-M and all materials must be non-combustible).The resistance to additional mechanical impact stress (classification -M) during fire resistance testing by a defined pendulum impact stress test with a 200 kg sack containing lead shot induced 3000 Nm impact to the side not subjected to the fire.

Installation zones acc. to DIN 4103-1Installation zone 1 Partitions in rooms where low numbers of persons gather, e.g. dwellings, hotels, office and hospital rooms including corridors and halls or similar.Installation zone 2 Partitions in rooms where large numbers of persons gather, e.g. meeting halls, school classrooms, auditoria, exhibition halls and sales rooms as well as rooms with similar usages.Unless otherwise stated, the value in the table is the maximum permissible partition height for installation zone 2 is considered.

Notes on sound insulationRw = Weighted sound reduction index in dB without sound transmis-

sion via flanking building componentsIndex R = Used to differentiate between the calculation value and the test

stand values.

Note

The verification according to the new DIN 4109-2:2018-01 is no longer according to calculation values Rw,R, but rather with the values obtained on the test rig Rw, rounded off to a single position following the decimal point. Only at the end of the forecast after consideration of all the perimeter surfaces (flanking surfaces) involved in the transmission of sound is an element of forecast uncertainty included in dependence on the type of separating constructional component. For a transition period the Knauf system data sheets will specify both the test stand values as well as the calculated values used up to now.If values are stated instead of rated test stand values, that are based on calculated prognoses or are derived from measured test stand values, they will be stated without positions following the decimal point.

The stated constructional and structural properties and characteristic building physics of Knauf systems can solely be ensured with the exclusive use of Knauf system components or other products expressly recommended by Knauf. The validity and up-to-datedness of the stated proofs have to be considered.Notes on fire resistanceThe specifications marked with offer additional application options, which are not directly included in the Certificate of Usability. On the basis of our technical assessments, we assume that these marked design solutions can be assessed as a non-significant divergence. We can make the documentation on which this assessment is based, such as surveyors' reports or technical assessments, available to you on request together with the Certificate of Usability. We recommend that a non-significant divergence be coordinated and authorised in advance in consultation between the persons responsible for fire protection and/or the relevant authorities.

IntroductionSystem overview

Knauf Fire WallsDrywall partitions with stud frames made of sheet metal profiles and cladding on both sides made of Diamant Steel GKFI gypsum boards.Metal stud partition systems are erected using cladding made of gypsum boards with sheet metal lamination assuring fire wall quality. Knauf Fire Walls are fire-resistant walls that retain their structural stability when exposed to a fire and remain effective as a room enclosure, as they offer particularly high resistance to falling components.

W131.de Fire Wall EI 90-MThe cost-effective Fire Wall System W131.de is clad with two layers of Diamant Steel GKFI gypsum boards on each side, and in addition to EI 90 fire resistance compatibility and impact stress resistance (-M) that withstands falling components, it also fulfils the following additional requirements:

■ Reaction to fire non-combustible ■ Robustness ■ Sound insulation ■ Slim design

NoteDiamant Steel GKFIThe Diamant Steel GKFI is a 12.5 mm hard gypsum board with a 0.4 mm sheet metal lamination.

Installation and applicationStud frame I Cladding

Stud frameGeneralIn case of connection to flanking building components, apply a suitable sealing material analogue to the specifications of the DIN 4109-33:2016-07 section 4.1.1.3 (e.g. Trennwandkitt acoustical sealant) as a backing to the rear of the profiles. If a deflection of the ceiling ≥ 10 mm can be expected, install deflection heads.Anchor wall perimeter runners to the floor and ceiling. Anchor wall perimeter runners with suitable dowels to flanking walls.Use suitable fasteners / anchors with washer Ø ≥ 30 mm, t ≥ 2.0 mm:

■ Knauf Deckennagel ceiling metal dowel (with reinforced concrete) ■ Fire protection approved fasteners / anchors ≥ M6 or Ø ≥ 6 mm (with other substrates) specially suited to the building material substrate

Max. fastening surrounding spacing ≤ 500 mm (at corners ≤ 250 mm).Install cut-to-length CW profiles about 30 mm into the UW runners and at axial spacing ≤ 312.5 mm and connect also above and below each with 2 metal blind rivets ≥ 3x8 mm. In case of deflection heads the CW profiles should not be connected to the upper UW runner profiles.Vertical profile extensions Scheme drawings I Dimensions in mm2 CW profiles butt jointed, connected with additional UW runner.
