Sound insulation
Sound insulation in residential buildings
Systematic sound insulation
From F to A* – the right sound insulation class for all demands
DIN 4109 – caution stumbling block! The German
Federal Court has specified in two rulings that DIN
4109 has lost its contractual significance for sound
insulation in residential buildings.***
Architects, specialised companies and specialist
dealers therefore have to respond even more sensi-
tively to sound insulation requirements and in case
of reservations bring higher quality solutions into
play. This is the only reliable method to exclude war-
ranty claims later on.
The “DEGA Deutsche Gesellschaft für Akustik e.V.“
(German society for acoustics) has defined seven
sound insulation classes. These can be used to pro-
vide extensive high-quality consulting services.
Knauf offers sound insulation solutions for all
classes. Our innovative systems provide a clear ad-
vantage against solid-wall concepts. Despite lower
wall thicknesses they provide identical or better pro-
tection against noise.

field of sound insulation!

insulation board fulfils the requirements of DIN 4109. The use
of Knauf Piano instead of the Knauf Wallboard increases the
sound insulation by 3 dB at the same wall thickness (150 mm).
Knauf Diamant not only increases the sound insulation perfor-
mance, but is furthermore extremely robust, suitable for areas
of high humidity and thanks to its fire protection quality ideal
for fire protection requirements. Best price-performance ratio
for the realization of ambitious residential objects.

Sound insulation plus For highest demands
The 150 mm thick wall is upgraded by 5 dB with the combina-
tion of Knauf Silentboard and Knauf Diamant. This wall struc-
ture is always the first choice when slim structures with maxi-
mum sound insulation are required.
The Knauf Silentboard sound insulation board in combination
with the Knauf MW Stud provides sound insulation at the very
highest level. The special resilient effect of the profile produces
a sound-insulating structure additionally.

an additional layer of Knauf Silentboard without increasing
the wall thickness notably. Knauf Silentboard is always the
right solution, whether in new buildings or when upgrading
existing structures.
The Knauf sound insulation calculator allows you to calculate the resulting sound insulation (R‘wR) of Knauf
wall systems rapidly and easily and thus to check whether your requirements for sound insulation are fulfilled.
