Life is too short to waste time pursuing goals that have no meaning to you.

-anonymous

It’s now 2011, the start of a New Year! And it is quite likely you have for yourself a list of New Year’s resolutions you’ve had before. Everyone has them, to do better at work or spend more time with family, but time and time again we make it halfway through the year and wonder where all the energy we had January 1st has gone. Have you ever tripped over one of the many pitfalls blocking your way? Don’t give up hope! You can find ways to avoid these traps, and get out of them should you fall in. The first step comes into play as you’re coming up with your list for your New Year’s resolutions. Choose goals you really want to achieve. The more you want something, the more likely you are to get it. This holds true to your resolutions as well. Make sure your goal has a definite victory point; instead of making your goal ‘I want to be better at my job’ try ‘I want to earn $100,000 this year’. This will give you a definite point at which you can declare victory. Next you want to break down your goals into tasks you can do that will you bring you closer to reach-ing your goal. Do you need to throw out all your clutter or remove distractions? Organize your surroundings so you don’t spend time you could be selling a house looking for that application form you need? Take all the steps you need to do to make your resolution happen and create a list.. Put it where you can see it every

day... (Cont. on Page 4)

24 hours in a day!” I know that we are all per-fect with plotting out our time in our calendars and I know that nothing ever distracts us from those calendars, but… First and fore-most, some things NEVER change. And see-ing your clients face to face, belly to belly is one of those things. The time spent face to face with your clients is priceless and will pay off more than any other activity you do. So then, why blog? Why Facebook? The answer to that is this that your clients, no mat-ter how much you see them face to face, will get to know you better by

To Blog or not to blog? Back in “The Day” there wasn’t email, Face-book, or blogging. Listings were published in a book and clients were contacted by phone or face to face. As we all know, things change… and these days, things change rapidly. The verdict is still out as to whether or not technol-ogy has made our lives better, but technology has revolutionized the way we conduct business for sure. So, with all the new ways of contacting people, which way is the best? What is most pro-ductive? If you are like me, you are doing the math and shouting at the top of your lungs, “there’s only

utilizing these tools. When your clients get to know you better, they become friends. Friends we trust, friends we all want to do more busi-ness with. So yes, blogging and Facebooking are time consuming. But, it doesn’t have to run your day. Spend about 15-30 min-utes a day updating your-self and checking in on your friends and you’ll see yourself getting closer with your friends. The long term benefit is not only more business, but more friends…something we all could use more of. Make 2011 a year to remember!

What is a benefit? As defined by Dictionary.com, a benefit is something that is advantageous or good; an ad-vantage. Of course, a benefit will only be an advantage if you actually utilize it. As a RE/MAX Agent, there are many resources avail-able that can be a benefit to us. Did you know that RE/MAX is one of the most recognized brands and logos around the world? The RE/MAX Network consists of 90,311 Associates in

6,275 offices in 84 Countries. This volume of Associates and offices has made a strong im-pact in the Real Estate market. The red, white and blue balloon is a logo that is quickly identified as RE/MAX. Did you know that RE/MAX has one of the largest fleets of Hot Air Balloons in the world? There are currently 120 Hot Air Balloons in the RE/MAX fleet located in two dozen countries around the world.

Name recognition, branding, worldwide marketing, lead generation and continued opportunities for education are just a few of the benefits a RE/MAX Agent receives. If you haven’t visited Mainstreet lately, log in and explore all the many tools available to assist you with 24/7 access.

Representing the Phoenix Association of Realtors as Chairman of the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) Committee, and the AAR Advisory Board, Eddy was flown to Portland, OR Feb. 28, 1991 to testify before the RTC Oversight Committee by Washington D.C. The AZ recommen-dations were presented to the Oversight Committee in the Federal Court Building and were greatly received, and in many cases acted upon. It is interesting to note that many of the problems we had 20 years ago are quite similar to difficulties we have today; ie., justifying values, appraisal issues, envi-ronmental issues, auction sales resulting in “fire sale” prices, and loan mortgage issues, just to name a few. Time elements for the various procedures of the Realtor’s functions are a continuing diffi-culty to deal with. Every REO company may be different with their timely response, which was similar in the RTC days, especially if the final decisions were not performed on a local basis. Now that we may be dealing with numerous Banks and underlying lenders (which may number up to 8,000 different entities), whether it’s an REO or a Short Sale (SS), we are blessed with a new chal-lenge with each property we are involved with. It is certain that it is the time for the most profes-sional Realtors to step forward and further their education to keep up with the never ending changes. I highly recommend that every Realtor step forward to earn some of the most coveted designations that Lenders, Buyers, Listing Agents and Buyer’s Agents, especially in today’s market conditions are looking for. I am primarily referring to the CRS, CDPE, CIAS and various Default Resolution courses. If you are not sure what each of the designations stand for, ask the Agent next to you. All of us know that our business is a never ending learning process. The old saying, “the more you learn, the more you earn” has never been more prevalent than it is today.

An Angel Tree Christmas works by connecting parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts. Reaching the hundreds of thousands of children who won’t be spending Christmas with their parents is an effort that begins long before any bows and wrapping paper come out

of the closet. – Angeltree.org

Our office held an Angel Tree Drive in place of having a gift exchange at this years RE/MAX Renaissance Christmas party. In total we collected 52

toys to bring smiles to many children.

...and cross off what you’ve completed as you go so you can see your progress. Crossing an item off the to-do list and seeing yourself one step closer to your goal can help inspire you to do more. Once you get started the problem is keeping the momentum. It is easy lose motivation and focus; to fall back on old habits or let other things get in the way. If you’ve lost the motivation to keep to your goal, take a step back and look at the reason for reaching this goal. Keep in mind what this goal would do for you should you achieve it and how it would make you feel. Be honest with yourself, is reaching this goal really worth what it will take? If you really are determined to reach your goal, then maybe it is not the lack of motivation you are dealing with, but a lack of focus. Instead of focusing on the task at hand, it is better to focus on the benefits that are coming out of what you are doing. Sometimes it’s a matter of having too many choices. There are many ways to reach one goal, and it is easy to become distracted. Work on one method at a time, then move on to the next when you determine that the method either does not work, or you are ready to take on another. You also need to watch how much you are doing for others as opposed to how much you are doing for yourself and your goal. What are your abilities? If you take on too much, you won’t be able to finish anything, let alone your personal goals. We often take on too many projects be-cause we have trouble saying no to everyone else’s requests. Make your priorities of who gets your time, yourself included! If you start by saying no, rather than yes, you will find yourself freeing more of your own time to do what needs to get done. It is not about managing your time, but about managing yourself! Then, of course, there the dreaded slip up. You’re trying to lose weight, but you ate too much cake at the office birthday party. The first step is to stay positive! Instead of berating yourself for taking a step away rather than a step closer, tell yourself you won’t let it throw your whole plan off track. Sometimes it is even possible to ‘control’ your slip-ups. Going along with the cake exam-ple: give yourself something ‘bad’ to look forward to, then you can say “I won’t have McDonald’s for lunch today so I can have Red Robin this Friday!” One meal with too many calories a week can help you focus on not eating too much junk food during the week. Otherwise you will focus on how you miss going to lunch with everyone to your favorite fast-food joint rather than the benefits of avoid-ing the fat-dripping burgers. What people don’t realize is that no matter the resolution, it is a new behavior and it is always easy to backslide into old ways. Keep track of what you’re doing every day, don’t depend on yourself to remember because your mind will try to trick you. It takes thirty days to create a habit, but it only takes three days to fall out. So keep track, and three days without per-forming is a sign that you are slipping. It is most important to stay positive and believe in yourself. It takes time and effort to reach a resolution, and no matter how much enthusiasm you have for your goals you won’t reach them overnight. So find your motivation, keep your focus, and picture your success.

Q: How long have you been in real estate? A: Since March of ’04.

Q: What was the market like in 2004? A: Sweet! My goal was to supplement my income after leaving the police department. My first year, I closed on 32 homes…that’s like selling 60 homes now!

Q: What has been the biggest transition since that market in ’04. A: Negotiating…If you’d a told me in 2004 that I’d have to be an authorized 3rd party…ya know, the hardest thing is convincing the banks that the offer is in their best interest. We can’t take it personal…we just have to jump through the hoops to get it done for our clients.

Q: You joined RE/MAX in 2008, why? A: I had to move because my previous company had merged with another company that I didn’t care for. I interviewed a few com-panies, but didn’t want to work for a Ma and Pa company. I originally thought RE/MAX was too expensive, but I also didn’t realize back then that real estate would become my full time career. One thing I noticed after joining was instant credibility. People know RE/MAX and it helps gain trust upfront on sign calls.

Q: What is the key to your success? A: Keeping my marketing budget low. 90% of my business is from utilizing the Buffini system…well, the Buffini system with a Ham-blen twist. I’m also a strong believer in Dave Ramsey.

Q: What is most satisfying to you as a Team Leader? A: I enjoy coaching. My goal is to build and learn how to work smarter. I like helping people become successful.

Q: Last question Adam, What is most rewarding for you in real estate today? A: Helping people get out of a bad situation. There is a lot more counseling in real estate today.

Thanks Adam, good luck in 2011!

This years office Christmas party was an absolute blast! This year featured live entertainment, karaoke, and an Academy awards theme and was hosted at Rio Vista Recreation Center. The time capsule from the previous year was opened, and everyone laughed at the sarcastic predictions and were amazed at the number of correct ones. Dinner was comprised of traditional Christ-mas fare, such as turkey and ham, with a delicious marble pudding cake for desert. Awards were given out (listed below) based on peer nominations. Luckily there were boxes of tissues at every table, because there was hardly a dry eye when the first ever Micah Andrews Award was given to John An-drews after a touching video about Micah’s trials and triumphs was played. Our thanks to Adam and Tina Stanly who sang, and occasionally pulled Mark on-stage to sing a few tunes himself.

Our office held a Food Drive Competition to collect canned food for St. Mary’s Food Bank. Everyone was assigned a team and the team who brought in the most items will get to celebrate together at Jobing.com arena for a Coyotes game. The Blue team was successful in the most donations.

In total, the office gathered 1081 cans! This will help many families in need for the holidays. As the season of giving, everyone stepped up to the challenge. Great job everyone!

Micah Andrews is a wonderful two-year-old; sweet as can be, with enough energy to light up anybodies heart. I remember meeting him for the first time at the previous Christmas party: Full of life with a smile for everyone, his very presence brightened up the faces of those who sur-rounded him. He played and laughed and enjoyed being the center of so much attention. It’s hard to believe that just five months ago he faced his greatest adversity. Last August, Micah, his mother Heather and his sister Elizabeth were the victims of a car colli-sion. While Heather and Elizabeth made it out with just a few bumps and bruises, Micah was unresponsive and rushed to the hospital. It was deter-mined he had major injuries to his head and neck – injuries that kill 95% of those who re-ceive them. A dedicated team of doctors and nurses led by Dr. Nicolas Theodore got him through those first critical days. Both John and Heather stayed at the hospital around the clock to watch over their little boy. I don’t believe there was anyone

in the office that didn’t have Micah and the Andrews family

in their thoughts and prayers.

The day of the four-hour surgery to reattach Micah’s skull to his spinal column was the longest day for the Andrews family. They have said since that it was their faith that got them through the ordeal. Friends and family held their breath waiting for news. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when John sent one simple text: “Micah’s surgery went perfect.” It’s what happened after that was truly inspiring. Micah’s recovery and rehabilita-tion has been very encouraging. As soon as his surgery was complete the medical team dedicated to Micah’s recovery started pushing him. He surprised everyone by showing that his brain function was working at a much greater capacity than expected and his memory was still intact, which was very encouraging for his parents. He began re-learning how to walk and how to talk, and doctors were confident that he would be able to live

life close to normal.

Just as inspiring has been the overwhelming response by those touched by Micah’s story. A blog was created by family friend Billy Hobbs and updated by another close friend, David Mendel. This blog keeps friends and family up-to-date on Micah’s condition, and a donation site was created by Rick Stone for those who wanted to give their help. Micah has been featured in newspaper articles and on Good morning America which prompted other segments on Micah on prominent local chan-nels such as ABC 15, Fox 10, channel 12, and channel 5. Micah’s rehabilitation is ongoing, and his improve-ment keeps amazing those around him. I know that Micah has become an inspiration to many, including myself, to show us that miracles do exist. Having Micah safe and home to make the family complete is the greatest miracle the Andrews’ could have asked for.
