At this month’s regular meet- ing on Tuesday, October 4th, , will be voting on a number of Charity Requests that were in the approved budget, but need to be formally approved according to the Council’s by- laws. It should be noted that the $5,000 amount includes the $2,000 approved (but, inadver- tently, not sent [oops!] last year), this year’s usual amount of $2,000 and an another $1,000 either from the unrestricted charity budget or as an advance from next year’s planned contribution. The $5,000 contribu- tion will allow the council’s support for the Monastery to be memorialized on one of the columns in their meditation garden. We will also be voting to approve our usual donation of $250 to Special Olympics. If ap- proved, we will be presenting that check at their softball tournament on October 8th. We will be having our annual Oktoberfest on Sunday October 16 th at Rivermont Park. State Deputy Rick Sisko (and Past Grand Knight at All Saints) will be presenting our council its Double Star award and our Third Place International Service Award for Youth Service. Our fourth degree brothers will be provid- ing an honor guard for the Council’s Mass of Remembrance, at which we honor our Council’s Brother Knights who have gone to their reward. This will take place at the 7:00 PM Mass on Tuesday October 18. If at all possible, please make time to attend this Mass and honor those Knights who have gone before us. We encourage family members to attend as well. Look forward to the Keep Christ In Christmas card sale that will begin towards the end of October outside the church and social hall at all Masses. After that, the sales will continue inside the Social Hall for some weeks. We are continuing to develop the “Knight for a Day” project. Anyone interested should send me an email with your contact information and the skills you have (or the jobs you need to get done!) This can be another opportu- nity to meet others in the parish, have some fun, and do some good works all at the same time. On Saturday/Sunday October 8/9 we will have an informal “Badge Mass” (remember those?). Wear your Knights of Columbus badge to whichever Mass you attend that weekend. You might even talk to someone without one and ask if they ever thought of becoming a Knight! If you act fast, they can join at our Tuesday, October 25 first degree event. Vivat Jesus, Stan

Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration

2

All Saints Parish was the center of the national celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe during the first week of September. A holy icon painting of Our Lady from Supreme, blessed by the pope, and containing soil from the mountain in Mexico where she appeared 300 years ago arrived and was given great attention during the week. The Fr. Charles J. Watters 4th degree Assembly honor guard was on hand to install the icon at the altar and begin the week of continuous devotionals to the Patroness of the Americas. The Mass was the 5 PM Saturday, September 3rd, ceremony. Fr. Bill Hao gave the congregation a good introduction to what the Knights were planning during the week we had the icon. On Tuesday the 6th, our regular business meeting was delayed in favor of a 7 PM Mass featuring our acolyte team and special Marian devotions followed by a rosary led by Msgr. Marren. Thursday the 8th was the feast of Our Lady’s birthday. Each attendee at 7 AM Mass was given a rose to place in a vase before the image arranged by the Divine Mercy Ministry. Our Grand Knight, Stan, led the devotions and rosary during the weekly 7 PM Masses. A booklet was assembled from information on line telling the story of the miraculous appearance and has found its way into the library. The icon passed next to Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish on its weekly trek across the nation. We thank Supreme for the opportunity to lead the way.

At the August 30th First Degree, our council added five new brothers. Fr. David Daly of the Legion of Christ is our 15th clergy member. Mark P. Miller shares a close name with our brother Mark A. Miller (no relation). We welcome all these very worthy men into our council. We will hold a First Degree ceremony on the last Tuesday of every month. We hope that many of our members will attend to make our new brothers feel very much at home.

Knight Day for Habitat House is October 1st As is our custom every year, Council 11402 will host one of the All Saints Saturday builds on Saturday, October 1st. This is the 18th house that All Saints Parish will build---the most of any church. Our Knights will provide the manpower and the food on this day. Our council coordinator again this year will be Sir Knight Gene Gannon. Vol-unteers need to contact him to assemble a staffed work team for the Habitat organization. He will provide details of the project at the Tuesday October 4th Business Meeting and hand out a signup sheet. He can be reached at his cell phone number 404-992-3999 and email at [email protected]. 3

Ken Gregg Wins September Knight-of-Month

Paule Reale - 60+ Years of Marriage

(L-R) Jon Bird, Norb Braza, Ken Gregg, Lou Hlad. At our September meeting, Hlad presented the Knight-of-the-Month award to Ken Gregg for init iating and requesting council financing to build 100 wooden toys for hospitalized children. Bird and Braza formed his team (along with John Brach not shown). We congratulate these men for their wonderful Christian benevolence.

An injustice was corrected at the September council meeting when Paul Reale was finally awarded a certificate recognizing his 60 years of marriage with wife Marion. The council has a policy of recog-nizing couples married for 50 years, but in this case our data didn’t catch a couple passing 60 years. Actually, they have now been married over 61 years and we apologized for the omission.

Oktoberfest Family Picnic on October 16th This year’s family Oktoberfest picnic is scheduled for Sunday October 16th, 12 :30 PM to 5 PM at Rivermont Park along the Chattahoochee River. Hamburgers, brats, and beer will be provided by the council. Each family will be asked to bring a dish of a category depending upon their last name as usual. There is no cost and the kids are invited and encouraged. Games will be provided in this lovely private park just across from the Rivermont Country Club on Barnwell Road, just a stone’s throw from Holcomb Bridge Road. We have held this event at this site for several years thanks to the generosity of the Rivermont Club. There is some talk about roasting a pig this year, but we will have to see if that happens. Council Benevolence and Charity

Our Deacon and His Fruit Baskets

For years our Brother Deacon Ray Egan has been visiting the sick of our parish and council and pre-senting them with fruit baskets and companionship. He also schedules Masses for the deceased. In this candid picture by Jon Bird, he was captured in his other vocation as a chaplain at the Atlanta Air-port. He had just blessed the remains of fallen troops just returned. We salute this dedicated brother for his unpublicized works of Christian charity. God bless you, Deacon. 7
