Know About Child Vaccination Program In India

Vaccination helps your child to defend against a harmful or deadly disease. It provides immunity and strengthens the system. To stop the spread of the infectious diseases like smallpox, polio etc., vaccination is the trusted and effective method. As per the development of children immune system, vaccines are injected in their bodies. And according to the rate of the immune system development, a vaccination or immunization chart is formed.

Vaccines are basically consisted of a ’Weak’ or ‘Dead’ Version of the disease which causes virus. By injecting a deadly virus in the body, the immune system gets stronger and the virus won’t affect the body again. The child’s immune system is developed enough to recognize and deal with such deadly threats. When the child’s immune system deals with the virus, the body kept identification of that virus for the future in the immune system.

With proper safety and care, the vaccines are made. The vaccines made are safe yet effective. The manufactured medication comes with unwanted side-effects, need not to worry. These effects last for 1-2 days after taking the Immunization and it can be a mild fever or/and pain at the area where injection has applied. Please consult your pediatrician for advice, if the symptoms stays for more than a few days.

Vaccination at birth are to be given as soon as possible or at last for not more than a week after the birth.

If two or more vaccines are to be given on the same day, and if in case first one is given and others are still left, make sure you give your child the lined-up vaccination of the day within 24 hours of the first vaccine given. Not more than 24 hours!!

Vaccines with medicines for multiple diseases combined into a single injection is called combination vaccine, which is generally preferred over the separate injections.

Changing the needles of the syringe between drawing the vaccine into the syringe and injecting the same into your child is not necessary.

Multiple vaccines of different types cannot be mixed in the same syringe without some specific licenses and certain labels.

Observation for about 15-20 minutes after giving immunization to the child should be done. Note if any allergic reactions are seen.

There should be at least 1 inch distance between 2 injection spots so as to avoid local reactions of the vaccination.

If the previous immunization has been given with less than the standard dose or one which has been administered in any non-standard manner can’t be counted and the child should get that immunization again.
