GREETINGS FROM FR . DAVE
Happy International Festival and Mother’s Day Weekend! And, Happy Feast of the Ascension too. Guess we could add, happy Graduation as well for many of our college students and soon, our high school students. ‘Tis the season for sure! And the Easter Season is coming to a close with Pentecost next weekend. Archbishop Sample has asked for a minor change in our Mass practice beginning in June. We will all be asked to kneel after the Lamb of God (except of course for those who are unable to do so!), and to remain kneeling until coming forward to receive Holy Communion. There has been inconsistency in this practice from diocese to diocese, so this aligns us more with the rest of the Church. I’ll prompt you, so no worries you will do the wrong thing (though, I suspect I will forget too!). On the first weekend of June we will be doing a simple commissioning rite for our Eucharistic Ministers, also at the request of Archbishop Sample. This weekend, funeral services were held for Fred Williams. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace. Funeral services for Susan Bogdanov are scheduled for Monday, May 14th, at 11:00am (at Mt. Calvary); for Bob Klas on Tuesday, May 15th, at 11:00am; and for Le Nguyen on Wednesday, May 16th, at 10:00am. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace.
The Mission of Laity
That the lay faithful may fulfill their specific mission, by responding with creativity to the
challenges that face the world today.

We, the International Festival Planning Committee, are grateful for everyone’s collaboration and participation in making our celebration a success. Your generous support through the years has made these events joyful and memorable! We also acknowledge the loving support and guidance of our pastor, Fr. Dave Gutmann; our deacon, Brett Edmonson, our school principal, Ashley Sheridan, and the staff of Holy Trinity in providing for the many needs of this event. We especially want to thank those who provided food and assistance, and our gratitude goes to the members of the different parish ministries and communities for sharing their time, talent, and treasure.

Happy Mother’s Day! Where would we be without our mothers? You brought us into this world, nourish us, wipe our (noses), teach us to tie our shoes and play nice with others. You hug us and discipline us. You kiss our boo-boos and make us take our elbows off the table. You guide us in our choices and comfort us when our hearts get broken. You laugh with us and cry with us. You introduce us to peas and butterflies and help us with our math homework. You take us for walks and maybe even teach us how to drive. You tuck us in at night and wake us in the morning. After a tough day, you let us know that tomorrow will be better. You show us life and love and God. And when the time comes, you send us on our way, but never alone. Where would we be without you? We serve over 110 families in the Food Closet each week. Most of the time, it’s Mom who comes to get the food. My experience is that skin color, social-economic situation, or place of origin do not matter when it comes to what Moms want for their children. If you are fortunate enough to still have Mom with you, be certain to give her a hug, a kiss, or a call. Let her know what she means to you. If Mom is now with the Blessed Mary, a prayer always works. And while you’re at it, please say a prayer for all the Moms of the world. They all deserve to be thanked.
Thanks, Mom!

7th grader Elizabeth Koelling won First Place (middle school division) in the City of Beaverton’s 14th Annual Human Rights Creative Expression Contest! Presented by the City’s Human Rights Advisory Commission, the contest asks Beaverton’s K-12 students to “show their understanding of the importance of acceptance and human rights by sharing their feelings, opinions, experiences, and ideas in a creative style”. Elizabeth was presented with a certificate by the City Council (top photo) and was awarded a $50 Powell’s gift card. Our MS art teacher, Mr. Matt Wulff, also attended the awards ceremony to celebrate Elizabeth’s winning piece, titled “Break the Chains” (left photo). Winning pieces will be displayed in the Young Adult Room of the Beaverton City Library for the next year. Well done, Elizabeth!

What would it take to realize God’s vision for a world in
which everyone has enough? We have the resources
now to feed all people, but we need the political will to
make it happen. That is why we are asking parishioners
to join in Bread for the World’s Offering of Letters after
Masses on the weekend of June 2nd & 3rd. This letter-
writing campaign implores Congress to prioritize and
protect programs vital to hungry people in the United
