Knowledge sharing is central to climate compatible development and

is the foundation of CDKN’s projects and partnerships

Kenya and Senegal:

Africa Climate Change Resilience Alliance • Research programme on adaptive capacity in

rural communities of Ethiopia, Uganda and

Mozambique

• Consortium of organizations working to

increase the use of evidence in designing

development interventions to increase

vulnerable communities’ adaptive capacity

• Local Adaptive Capacity Framework –

identifies five characteristics of adaptive

capacity

• Framework applied in 11 rural communities

with the aim to broker discussions between

policy makers, researchers and local officials 9


• District development plans in Uganda did not

take account of communities’ vulnerability to

climate-related disasters

• Field visits were arranged for national officials

to visit communities in a disaster-prone district

to help increase understanding and

strengthen links between national and local

governments

• District planning teams were trained on how

to integrate climate change adaptation and

DRR into their sector plans and five-year

District Development Plan

• The district was allocated increased financial

support from Uganda’s MoF

Ecosystem-based approaches to

building resilience in urban areas

• Bringing together urban practitioners, policy makers

and scientists to develop a framework for decision-

making on ecosystem-based adaptation

• Limited guidance available for urban practitioners on

decision-making for adaptation, specifically in relation

to EbA

• Framework will be developed by and for policy makers

in local governments, drawing on their shared needs

and experiences

• Serve as a decision-making tool, assisting local policy

makers to identify and prioritise actions

• Process will develop a community of practice on

ecosystem management for adaptation and DRR in an

urban context 11
