The true identityof the Inspector is neverexplained, but it is clear that the family's confessionsover thecourseof theeveningare true, and that theywillbedisgracedpubliclywhennewsof their involvement inEva'sdemiseisrevealed.
My friends and I agreed that thiswas a very interesting interpretation of J.B Priestley's play. Thewriter
(StephenDaldry)managed tokeep themoralmessageof responsibilityvery strong in theplay, whilstalsoaddingaveryfittingandinterestingvisualaspecttotheplay.
The play starts very quietly, showing children playing outside a closed house. You can hear the Birlingsconversation inside. Slowly, the Inspector showsup, barelyvisible through themist. Ashe speaks to thefamilythehouseopens.

Themain theme of the play is responsibility and abuse of power. J.B Priestley shows socialist views ofcommunityandcriticizestheBirlingsviewsof"everymanforhimself",usingdramatic ironytomakefunofArthurBirlingsignorance, byhimsayingthetitanicisunsinkable.
