A koncentrációt növelve, a felület megtelik illetve a közegben elindul a micella képződése. Hogy melyik indul (be hamarabb az az oldhatóságtól függ.) Ezt a koncentrációt nevezzük kritikus micella képződési koncentrációnak. Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC).

• Kölcsönhatások:– víz-víz : ΔG1– amfifil - víz: ΔG2 (hidrofil rész-víz, hidrofób rész-víz)– olaj-olaj (hidrofób-hidrofób, micellán kívül elhanyagolható, micellán belül
nagyobb): ΔG3– ΔGmicelles = ΔG1 + ΔG3 + ΔG2 (mindegyikben vonzás van, azaz ΔH negativ)
• Entrópia hatás ezen belül: – a víz cibotaktikus szerkezete növeli a rendezettséget, a tenzid megtöri
ezt a szerkezetet, az eredő entrópia hatás nem jelentős, kompenzálja az entalpia hatás
– A liofób rész mozgékonysága nagyobb a micellán belül, az eredő entrópia nő, a hatás nagyobb mint az előzőben.

1. Az aggregáció miatt csökken a teljes viszkózus ellenállás, a Λ nő
2. Az ellenionok egy része a micella részévé válik, csökken a nettó töltés és csökken a szabad ellenionok száma csökken a Λ
3. A diffúz ellenion -atmoszféra csökkenti a micella mozgékonyságát csökken a Λ
A 2. és 3. hatás általában erősebb, ezért csökken a Λ, de például nagy térerőben nincs ellenion atmoszféra ekkor az 1. hatás dominál, a Λ nő a cmc után!

Hengeres és egyéb micellák
A koncentrációt növelve egy második cmc van, a hengeres micellák képződnek (a kolligatív sajátságokban újabb törés van). Tovább növelve a tenzid koncentrációt a molekulák különböző rendezettséget mutatnak. Folyadékkristályos szerkezet 3 fő tipusa: lamelláris (lemezes) hexagonalisvagy oszlopos és bikontinusz (vagy köbös cubic) szerkezet.

A kereskedelmi mosószerekben levő összetevőkre érzékeny bőrű emberek azt fogják tapasztalni, hogy a mosás sokkal kevésbé irritáló. Tegyen egy kanál szodabikarbónát a mosóvízbe a mosószerrel együtt. Mosódióval is használható, növeli a zsíroldó hatást. Nem fakítja a szineket. A szódabikarbona egyenértékűa Calgon nevű csodaszerrel, csak sokkal olcsóbb. Tudja miből áll az igen drága Calgon?
