Assignment and Assessment Description

1. In-Class QuizTime : Week 7Weight : 10%Description :Quiz is a simple test to measure the competence of the students in theoretical field and their main comprehension of the course material which had been presented during the class meetings. Quiz also role as an impetus and a stimulation for students to study hard and thoroughly understand about mass communication course.

2. Personal or Team Assessment (Paper or Group Disscussion and Presentation)Time : Week 5 or Week 11Weight : 25%Description : Personal tasks or group tasks are used to measure students’ skill in analysing, discussing, writing critical ideas, and presenting a communication phenomena or case study. It is necessary to train student’s critical thinking skills as well as their understanding on mass communication phenomenon in everyday life situation. Furthermore, the group assignment will also sharpen students’ teamwork and students’ group communication capabilities, such as delivering opinion based on scientific arguments in oral and written form. Therefore, the assignment of personal or group assignment is expected to be way to establish the student’s mental positively as well as the student critical thinking ability based scientific argument.

3. Mid Semester Test (UTS) and Final Semester Test (UAS)Time : Week 8 and Week 16Weight : 30% and 35%Description :UTS and UAS are used in order to measure students’ competence, theoretical understanding, and critical thinking skills as an indicator of students’ understanding of concepts and materials presented during the course. In addition, UTS and UAS are also used to drill students academic skills, and honesty in writing on answer sheet or in writing a paper. The UTS and the UAS will be given in written test or in an essay paper task form.

Additional Information:

1. Course ContractAll students who take courses mass communications shall comply with some lecture contracts, as follows:

1. All students must arrive on time, or before the lecture begins. Students who are no more than 30 minutes late with strong reason could be tolerated to attend the class, however, punishment will be given for those who are more than 30 minutes late.

2. All students must show their concentration and commitment during the classroom by not using any cell phone (gadgets), a laptop, and perform other activities that disturb the order, including smoking.

3. All students must wear decent clothes. It is allowed to wear casual T-shirts with collar. Do not wear T-shirts, ripped jeans, or sandal to class.

4. Students who are unable to attend a class should give a letter addressed to the lecturer on the day (or maximum two days after the class to the academic staff), or via sms on the day) explaining reasons (if ill, student should also attach a statement from doctor). Failing to do so, the lecturer will assume that the student alpha.

5. All students who participated in Mass Communication course, entitled to participate in quiz, UTS, as well as other structured activities. However, students’ participation in the UAS is determined entirely by student attendance a minimum of 80% of the total courses. Students who do not participate UAS caused by name block, still have their quiz grades, UTS grade, and grades from other tasks.

6. All the rules have not been set in the contract this course will be decided later.

Structured tasks, or paper, should be prepared based on a determined format:

1. INTRODUCTIONIntroduction is the first part of paper, or other scientific writing will be created by the students. Introduction section contains all the explanations about the theme, topic, or title of paper, or paper that is made. In addition, the introduction should explain in detail, scientific, and logical reasons of the students choose the topic, so that became the basis for writing the next chapters. Because it's good or bad the papers can be determined by its introduction.

2. LITERATURE REVIEW / LITERATURE STUDIESLiterature review or literature studies is the chapter in the papers, or scientific writing describes a literature review which used by students to discuss the theme, topic, or title filed. Literature review provide a theoretical foundation and guidance for students to understand the phenomenon (theme, topic, or titles) were observed as well as data analysis tools that can be used by the student to explain the phenomenon (theme, topic, or title). In addition, a review of the theoretical or literature become a benchmark the ability of students to explore the literature used in the manufacture of paper, or other scientific writing.

3. ANALYSIS AND EXPLANATIONThe data explanation and data analysis is the chapters that require students to explain scientifically all data or findings related to the theme, topic, or title are discussed. The following discussion and analysis also require students to explain all the data based on the theoretical findings in a systematic and logical. Because of that chapter is expected to stimulate students to think critically, scientific, and systematic.

BibliographyBibliography is an area which requires students to write all references and literature used in the manufacture of paper, paper, or paper. The format of writing bibliography was based on APA (American Psychological Association). The APA ref system used by Department of Communication Science can be downloaded from www.komunikasi.ub.ac.id.
