Serial communicationThese dedicated PCBs communicate with the mother-board in the machine-room via a shared bus utilizingLON, the standard serial communication protocol inbuilding automation applications. High-speed call allocation The high-speed TMS9900 GA call allocation processconsists of four stages: ■ Passenger flows are recorded, identified and

measured for short-term and daily traffic statistics.■ Artificial intelligence is used to learn the traffic and

generate forecasts for each weekday. ■ Based on this knowledge a fuzzy logic module

KONE ReSolve X2 Drive Dynamics – Enhancing performance and safety

KONE ReSolve X2 closed-loop control directly controlsthe current to the motor for accurate floor leveling(within 3 mm), even if the current DC gearlessmachine is retained. It uses the actual speed andposition of the elevator car in the hoistway inconjunction with car speed and location determined by a motor-mounted digital encoder.

Passenger safety: The benchmark!ReSolve X2 significantly enhances passenger safety. In many old elevators, the possible existing levelingaccuracy is as high as the floor plate physicaldimension: up to plus or minus 150 mm. Not onlywheelchairs, but also shopping trolleys, pushchairs orsimple heavy bag handling would become a problem.With ReSolve X2 the leveling accuracy is plus or minus3 mm. No other existing products perform better.

Accurate floor levelingThe latest control and drive systems developed byKONE employ sophisticated position measuringtechniques that map the elevator shaft with all floorlevels. This constantly delivers the highly accurate floorleveling essential for wheelchair users, the visuallyimpaired and those carrying goods.

The position reading technology virtually eliminatesall stopping errors possible through position measuringand drive decision delays.

Motion Control Unit A key element of the new system is the Motion ControlUnit (MCU). It controls all aspects of the drive controlunit and thus allows the CPU to dedicate its processingpower to dispatching and other system controls.

The MCU calculates all the motion parameters:■ Car position■ Speed■ Drive profiles■ Floor leveling

These are communicated directly to the drive unit,allowing the smooth operation of high speed, highperformance drives, which can interface directly toexisting hoisting machines.

The total gap between reading the elevator positionand giving commands to the AC/DC drive is 2 milli-seconds, which represent 0.2 millimeters travel duringthe leveling phase.

Car Position Closed Loop ControlThe direct feeding of the drive allows a real break-through in the motion control of the elevator: the CarPosition Closed Loop Control. Traditionally, closed loopcontrol is conceived as a tachometer reading thetraction sheave speed. But this system has 2 limitations:It cannot take into account the stretching or theslipping of the ropes that is a high-rise inherent factorand it doesn’t measure the position. It estimates theposition by multiplying time by speed, sometimeswrongly. On the contrary, the Car Position ClosedLoop Control realizes the final goal of any positioningcontrol system. It converts the traditional Speed/Timeprofile to a Speed/Position profile, which is the onlyrelevant information for the leveling purpose.

Superb ride quality and performanceReSolve X2 combines smooth ride with outstandingfloor-to-floor performance, achieving optimal flightpatterns at any travel distance with the selected com-bination of jerk and acceleration values. The overallsystem handling capacity is superior to other systemsfor leveling accuracy, at creeping speeds, as well as atintermediate speeds, especially on short runs.

Operating characteristicsBefore the elevator car starts moving, the controlelectronics supply the machine with the correcttorque setting to ensure a smooth start, regardlessof the load within the car. This allows the car to movesmoothly away from the floor as soon as the brakeis released, following the required speed pattern.

During the run, the car position data is constantlyupdated and fed to the drive processor. The elevatordeceleration commences when the distance to thedestination floor level corresponds to that required forthe optimal floor approach. Depending on the pre-vailing traffic conditions, this enables the elevator torespond to new landing calls that may appear beforethe elevator reaches its original destination floor.

The deceleration of the elevator progresses until themachine has been brought to a smooth and precisestop electrically. Only then will the holding brake bereleased, maximizing passenger comfort.

Fully integrated systemsPreviously, through various technical and financiallimitations, buildings had to be supplied with a mix ofdifferent drive technologies: hydraulic, AC/DC gearedand AC/DC gearless elevators. Of course, these differenttechnologies had different performance characteristicsthat did not match each other. With the ground-breaking KONE EcoDisc technology, it is now possiblefor the first time to use high efficiency gearless tech-nology across the complete range of loads and speeds.

Extra space for tight officesThe unique axial construction makes the KONE EcoDischoisting machines very compact, with the motor effect-ively integrated with the traction sheave. This givesthe result of a flat disc shaped machine, which requiresless space, fitting easily into the machine-room, savingspace and reducing both the structural and electricalloading in the process.

Although KONE EcoDisc will not solve every spaceproblem, its smaller size and weight is as little as halfthat of traditional hoisting machines. E-LinkPerformance monitoring of your elevators is madepossible through KONE E-Link™ Elevator Monitoringand Command System, a full-featured buildingmanagement tool. E-Link enables performancemonitoring and the issuing of commands to differentelevators and escalators throughout the building.

I-LinkKONE I-Link™ consists of flat-panel displays fitted tothe elevator cars or elevator lobbies controlled by a high performance CPU controller processor. Besidesthe usual elevator related information, KONE I-Linkoffers an effective means of forwarding generalinformation and messages to tenants and visitors indifferent types of buildings, in support of, or insteadof, loudspeaker messaging.

Range of usesIn office buildings, I-Link can be programmed to flashtenant names, logotypes, courtesy messages or generalguidance on the high-resolution display when theelevator arrives at their floors. Hotels can use I-Linkto advise guests of activities and services available inthe hotel or the area. In shopping centers it may beapplied to promote special offers during the only timethe shoppers stand still – the elevator journey.

At passenger terminals, such as airports, I-Link can beconfigured to show departures or arrivals and to directtravelers to correct gates. In hospitals, I-Link helpsmessages to reach all of the staff, including those in elevators. The KONE I-Link™ display unit can besupplied sunk into the wall structure of KONE suppliedelevator cars, or as a surface-mounted unit for instal-lation into a car or lobby. The frame material anddisplay color can be customized to suit.
