History

Konin is an important administration centre.It has been the capital of province capital since 1975, and due to the administrative reform introduced on 1 Jan 1999, Konin became the seat for the township and the capital of the country district. It is still a centre of dynamically developing political and social life, for Eastern Wielkopolska and the whole Wielkopolska Province.

Location

Konin is a city located in central Poland, in the eastern part of Wielkopolska, on the River Warta. Currently it has about eighty thousand inhabitants. To the south of Konin passes the A2 motorway, connecting Warsaw with Poznań as part of the international Berlin-Moscow route. From north to south the national road No. 25 (Bydgoszcz, Kalisz) cuts through the city. The international railway line Berlin-Moscow passes through the city and the River Warta which by an existing network of lakes and canals is connected with the Baltic Sea creating an additional possibility of the use of different means of transport.

The new strategy was improved by Konin Town

Council on 27 June 2007.

Pątnów – Adamów – Konin Power Stations Group –

producer of 12% of electricity in Polish Power

Generation

Konin Opencast Lignite Mine – producer of 20% of

lignite in Poland

Aluminums Konin – Impexmetal – Poland’s biggest

manufacturer of rolled aluminum and only producer of

primary aluminum

Opencast Mining Equipment Plant – producer of

mining equipment and steel constructions

Over 7 000 large, middle and small companies in

public and private sector
