SCOPE OF WORK:
Koontz Electric was a subcontractor to Fluor Daniels, who had ‘Design/Build’ responsibilities for this ‘green field’ chemical process plant. This new eight story plant produces chemicals used as an additive in water treatment processes. Koontz Electric was awarded both power / lighting and instrumentation and controls.
This new plant is fed with a primary service, 13.8kV. This is stepped down to 4,160 and 480 volts. The 4,160 serves two 800 hp chillers. The 480v, 3,200 amp service supplies the balance of plant loads, including (75) pumps. The 480v distribution system is backed up by a 450kW generator for critical loads. All power cables leave the control block in cable tray to their final load.
The instrumentation included over 1200 field devices, such as control valves, smart pressure transmitters, smart vacuum transmitters, flow transmitters, limit switches, etc. Koontz personnel bench calibrated all new instruments, field installed and assisted in loop check and system commissioning. Koontz also installed several thousand feet of ½” instrument air header, stainless steel tubing, and poly tubing. All of the instruments are connected to an APACS Moore SCADA System. Koontz Electric installed the APACS equipment and terminated all cables.
