1. It reduces transportation costs: When some membersoined they sold their second vehicle; others let go of their

only vehicle; they cashed in their insurance – no morerepairs, maintenance, gas, insurance, tires.

2. Its rates are reasonable: Tere is a $5 monthly fee, a kmrate and hourly fee according to the size of vehicle. Econ-omy cars are $2.75/hr plus $.20/km; the truck is $4.10/hrplus $.35/km. Te Carshare website provides a rip CostCalculator to do trip cost estimates before you book.

3. Its a co-op: Mem ers purc ase a 500 re un a emembership share and become part owners of the busi-ness – you get the money back when you stop being amember.

5. It’s regional: Membership in Kaslo allows you to use

cars in Nelson, Revelstoke, Kimberley, Rossland, Fernieand Golden. You can also be a roaming member for anyCarshare co-op in BC including Vancouver, Victoria andKelowna.

6. It’s green-ish: People sharing cars means fewer carson the road. Fewer cars on the road means fewer green-house gas emissions and less traffi c. For every KootenayCarshare car on the road, at least 5 private vehicles areremoved. Offering to “Rideshare” a booking reduces thecosts further.
