All the best to our students competing in the Tamworth Zone Swimming carnival this Friday at Scully Park. It’s always an exciting day racing against students from other schools for the opportunity to compete in the North West trials. Thank you to Mrs Lulham and Miss Magann for your organisation and support of our students. Go Kooty!

This week we inducted our students elected to the Student Representative Council and House Captain positions. An induction ceremony is always special for our students and families. Thank you to our families who were able to assist on the day in the ceremony. Your presence is always greatly appreciated and valued. Congratulations students.

There are still some outstanding permission notes from families that Kootingal Public School requires to ensure we understanding the wishes of our families. The notes are Authority to Publish, General Permission Note, Internet User Agreement and Update of Information. Mrs Dunn is contacting families until they are completed and submitted. If you have concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

This week was our first P&C meeting for the year. It was lovely seeing so many new faces interested to hear about our school and how they can be involved. Thank you to all the parents, both new and existing, who were able to attend this meeting. At this meeting, I tabled the new Student Use of Digital Devices and Online Services policy for Kootingal Public School. This policy was recently released by the department and Kootingal Public School adjusted its policy to align with it. This policy promoted a lot of discussion about technology and its use. The P&C gave it’s endorsement to the policy. This policy will be uploaded to our school website with a link posted to our Facebook page. If you require a hard copy, please contact the school to arrange for a copy to go home with your child.

At the meeting we also discussed the alternate girls summer uniform. Images, as well as samples, will be available for viewing soon. It is advised by the P&C and uniform committee members that our families come in to view and feel the proposed uniform materials as they are quite different in texture and weight. We will inform our community once the samples have arrived.

This week, our djembe and didgeridoo programs with the Tamworth Conservatorium of Music commenced again for the 2020 school year. These programs are fully funded by our Equity funding. Our Year 2 students were humming along nicely with their drumming patterns. Keep up the great work!

Kootingal Public School will be holding Clean Up Australia Day on Friday 28th February 2020. Children can bring their own gloves if they would like, or gloves will be provided. Permission to participate in this activity is covered by the General Permission Note parents signed at the beginning of the year.

This week saw Kootingal Public School teach our second core value, Supportive. At our Monday afternoon assembly, students easily identified ways in which to be supportive, even if it was at the expense of Mrs Cracknell. The language of our core values are evidenced in our everyday practices. Students are aware and acknowledge our core values and whole school expectations as we talk about them everyday. Keep up the great work Kooty!

Below is our scope and sequence for Term 1.

Kootingal Public School Positive Behaviour for Learning

What is Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)?

PBL is a consistent and user friendly school-wide system of support that helps define, teach and support appropriate student behaviours, creating a positive school environment.

PBL at Kootingal Public School

Core Values

We have 3 core values that underpin the teaching and learning at Kootingal Public School. We value Safe, Supportive and Effective Learners and encourage students to uphold these values to a high standard.

Positive Rewards System

We have a school-wide behaviour system that recognises and encourages positive behaviour. Students receive a PBL Bronze award and House Points for displaying the correct behaviour and these contribute to students' overall award system and the House Points Competition.

Weekly Lessons

Students participate in weekly school-wide lessons that focus on a specific behaviour that is determined from data. There is a weekly focus area and this aligns with the behaviour matrix.

Whole School Expectations

Kootingal Public School upholds 5 whole school expectations no matter the place or situation. They are evident across our school in all areas and form the basis of our expectations.

They are:

Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself

 Follow teacher instructions

 Accept consequences

 Reports issues to teachers immediately

 Show concern for others
