These areas (Rodway Pde and Rae Cr) are there for the safety of all our children. If you park or stop illegally in these zones you are risk- ing the safety of others. We ask that you adhere to the signed parking and drop off areas. Note: Parent’s/carer’s need to be reminded that there are parking restrictions around the school. There have been observations of cars parking longer in 5min zones, if this persists the school has no alternative but to call the parking rangers. Stage 2 Sydney Adventure Last Thursday Stage 2 students were excellent KSPS ambassadors on our Stage 2 Sydney adventure. The students learnt a lot about the role of convicts during the early settlement. Students also learnt about the Gadagal people from the Eora nation and their way of life. At the observatory, students were amazed by the Planetarium and 3D movies as well as the amazing artefacts. Students were also able to look at the sun through a high powered telescope. Thank you to Mr Bowden, Mrs Ottery and Ms Kelly for your valuable assistance on the day. These excursions are a valuable experience for our students and for some, their first big trip away without mum or dad. A great day was had by all. MR ENGLEFIELD - ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Eat Fresh and Win Canteen Campaign It is important that children eat more fruit and vegeta-bles. The ‘Eat Fresh and Win’ Canteen Campaign promotes fruit and vegetables and offers each stu-dent the opportunity to win great prizes. Each time a student makes a fresh fruit and/or vege-table purchase from the canteen, they receive an ‘Eat fresh and Win’ sticker card. Fresh fruit and/or vegeta-ble purchases at our school canteen include: frozen fruit, fresh fruit, salad sandwiches, salad wraps, salad rolls and salad bowls. Your salad alternatives can include meat or egg. To be eligible for a minor prize, students must make two separate transactions at the canteen in which they will receive stickers, to complete the entry form. The minor prize is a Fresh for Kids pencil with eraser. Once the entry form has been completed, it must be returned to the canteen where they will receive their minor prize. Entry forms are available until stocks run out, so students may enter more than once. All entry forms will then be sent to Sydney Markets to be in the running for major prizes. Best of luck! Interschool Visual Arts Enrichment Day Excursion On Monday August 24, Mrs Cox and Mrs Fear will be taking a group of twenty students from Year 1 to Year 6 on an excursion to the Newcastle Art Gallery and Newcastle Regional Library. The excursion will also include twenty students from Belair Public School and twenty students from Adamstown Public School. The aim of our excursion is to provide an enriching visual arts experience for all nominated students from all three schools. If your child received a note for this excursion, please return it by Wednesday August 19 with your payment of $20. KC Friday Groups Our last KC Friday Groups will be in Week 7 on Fri-

day August 28. Thank you to all the parents who

have made the time to come and assist in our class-

room. Your commitment and efforts have been won-

derful and the children have thoroughly enjoyed hav-

ing you share their learning experience.

HELENA TAYLOR - P&C SECRETARY KSPS Gardens and Grounds Newsletter What a great Sunday! The weather turned on a beautiful morning and a record number of families turned out for some gardens and grounds activities. Well done to everyone involved, you put in a big morning and went above and beyond to get every-thing finished that we set out to achieve. A big thank you to Valerie Main who planned and co-ordinated the upgrade of the schools front entrance, to Susie Long for the coordination of the expansion of the Primary School Vegetable Gardens and Joanne Barfield and Katrina Cowie for undertaking some bush regeneration on Bender Parade. I am certainly humbled by the willingness and effort everyone put in especially our children who helped with mulching, watering and planting. Matt Playdon, KSPS Gardens and Grounds Group

Become an Ethics Teacher at KSPS Public School

Primary Ethics provides the opportunity for NSW public primary school students who don’t attend scripture classes (SRE) to participate in philosophi-cal ethics classes. We have a few vacancies for volunteers to teach Years 1-6 ethics classes in 2016. Ethics classes teach children how to approach ethical issues and develop their capacity for considered moral judge-ment, which will enable them to respond more thoughtfully to many of the problems and issues they will face in their lives. Volunteer Ethics Teach-ers are trained to deliver our age-appropriate curric-ulum every week and to use the accompanying learning and teaching materials.

For more information, please contact: Valerie Main

Ethics Coordinator for KSPS Public School 4023 8744 or [email protected]
