Our Portland office, which opened in 1974, has a total staff of 165 with engineers who are experienced with the Department of State’s complex technical design requirements and are stewards of OBO’s mission to provide safe, secure and functional facilities that represent the best of American architecture, engineering, technology, sustainability, art, and construction execution.

From our first overseas project in Darfur, Sudan in 1970 to 100+ U.S. Embassy projects, we have successfully teamed with local architects and engineers to meet our client’s needs. Our project teams are familiar with procedures for acquiring information in foreign countries, navigating government agencies, working with local architects and engineers, and designing to meet international building codes. We are adept at communicating across time zones, preparing designs and drawings in English imperial or metric units, and delivering projects through various electronic formats.
