HISTORY The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship continues the rich tradition of the LPGA Championship as the second-longest running tournament in the history of the Ladies Professional Golf Association. The Championship, offering a purse among the highest in women’s golf, brings together a world-class, annual major golf championship with a women’s leadership summit and an ongoing charitable initiative to inspire and develop new generations of female leaders.

It is one of five majors in women’s golf, joining the ANA Inspiration, U.S. Women’s Open, Women’s British Open and The Evian Championship.

Beverly Hanson won the inaugural LPGA Championship in 1955 at Orchard Ridge Country Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana, defeating Louise Suggs in the championship match. It was the only time the LPGA Championship ended in a match-play finale after the initial three rounds were conducted via stroke play.

Past LPGA Champions include many of the greatest names in women’s golf: Mickey Wright, Kathy Whitworth, Nancy Lopez, Beth Daniel, Betsy King, Juli Inkster, Laura Davies, Annika Sörenstam, Se Ri Pak, Cristie Kerr and Inbee Park.

Mickey Wright won this Championship a record four times (1958, 1960, ’61, ’63). Park, with her victory in 2015 at Westchester Country Club, joined Lopez, Pak, Sörenstam and Whitworth on the short list of three-time winners.

Park (2013-15) also shares the all-time record for consecutive titles with Sörenstam (2003-05). She will attempt to establish a new record in June of 2016.

One of the tenets of the ground-breaking collaboration among KPMG, the PGA of America and the LPGA was that this Championship would be shared with the nation’s finest golf courses and communities.

This commitment yielded quick results. After debuting at the Westchester Country Club outside New York City, it was announced that the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will be played at Sahalee Country Club, which is located just 30 minutes east of downtown Seattle. The 2017 and ’18 Championships will both be played in the greater Chicagoland area at Olympia Fields Country Club and Kemper Lakes Golf Club, respectively. All of these golf venues share one trait; they have championship pedigree.

2015 Inbee Park posted a bogey-free, final-round 68 to win the 2015

KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York. By finishing 19-under par, 273 for the tournament, Park matched the Championship’s record in relation to par, which was shared by Yani Tseng (2011) and Cristie Kerr (2010). Park entered the final round with a two-stroke lead and never trailed on Sunday, winning by five shots over Sei Young Kim (14-under-par, 278). Lexi Thompson, the top American finisher (third, 12-under), carded eight birdies and a 66 on Sunday to equal the low round of the Championship. Park’s victory was her fifth in 12 major championships played on the LPGA Tour dating to the beginning of 2013.She also reclaimed the No. 1 position in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

Lydia Ko had held the top spot for the previous 19 weeks. Park won this Championship for a third straight year on a third different golf course. Before her win at Westchester, she won twice in Rochester, New York, at Monroe Golf Club (2014) and Locust Hill Country Club (2013). The only other player to win three consecutive LPGA Championships was Hall-of-Famer Annika Sörenstam (2003-05). “It feels amazing,” said, Park, who hails from South Korea. “It feels amazing to win three times in a row. Obviously putting my name alongside Annika Sörenstam or Patty Berg, legends of golf, just being a part of history of this golf tournament, I feel extremely honored,

and I can’t believe that I just did it.” The major championship victory was the sixth of the 26-year-old Park’s career. Four of these major titles occurred in New York State. Among active players on the PGA or LPGA tours, only three have won more major championships than Park: Tiger Woods (14), Juli Inkster (7) and Karrie Webb (7).
