New Dance Palace TeachersWe have the pleasure of introducing two new instructors to the

Dance Palace this season with some exciting new classes.

Leigh Donlan: Ballet & Pre-BalletLeigh Donlan is originally from Long Beach, where she began dancing at the age of three. Classically trained in Russian technique, Leigh began teaching ballet at 16 and has danced professionally since the age of 20. In addition to classical ballet, she stud-ied and taught a variety of other dance techniques, including modern, African, Middle Eastern, and Renaissance. She was faculty and artistic staff for the Washington Ballet in Washington D.C. from 2007–2009 where she received the title of Children’s Ballet Mistress.

Peggy Orr: Early Evening YogaPeggy Orr began her yoga practice in 1989 with Chuck Miller at the original YogaWorks. Over the next seven years, her practice became very important to her. It still is. Peggy will hold her yoga class on Thursday evenings. Influential teachers include Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Erich Schiffman, Paul Grilley, Tim Miller and Tony Briggs. Peggy brings her deep connection to movement, offbeat humor, and life experience to her practice.“To me yoga is many things: Healing for my body. Calming for my mind. Nourishment for my soul. Yoga sustains community & keeps us sane. The truth is, I could not live without it. Yoga saved my life.”

The Holiday Crafts Fair was one of the first events ever held at the Dance Palace when it was originally established in the building that is now the home of the Cabaline shop on Main Street. More than 40 years later this rich tradition continues as the vibrant arts and crafts community of West Marin brings fine work and wares to neighbors, friends, and visitors alike at the Dance Palace Community and Cultural Center in Point Reyes Station.

Along with artisans from all over the Bay Area, they will show and sell their jewelry, pottery, clothing, toys, weaving, art cards, Christmas ornaments, and more. The Holiday Crafts Fair offers visitors to the Fair the chance to buy unique and treasured holiday gifts and enjoy delicious seasonal food and drink. Support our local artists and your local community center by shopping at the Dance Place this year for the holidays! Admission to the Fair is FREE!

GEOFF HOyLE iN GEEzER, SATuRDAy, SEPTEMBER 29, 8 PMGeoff Hoyle’s new solo show, GEEZER, bring his irrepressible sense of comedy and trademark physicality, as well as a certain elegiac wistfulness, to this tour-de-force performance about what it is like to grow old.

iMPOSSiBLE BiRD, FRiDAy, OCTOBER 12, 8 PMA duo that will shake your bones.Nick Drummond is former front man and songwriter for the hit Seattle band The Senate. Tyler Carson is an internationally known fiddler/violinist most recently from Jack Maple. Together they have teamed up to combine their unique talents into one formidable pairing; Fiddle, guitar, voice.

KRONOS QuARTET, SATuRDAy, NOvEMBER 10, 8 PMFor nearly 40 years, the Kronos Quartet—David Harrington, John Sherba (violins), Hank Dutt (viola), and Jeffrey Zeigler (cello)—has pursued a singular artis-tic vision, combining a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to expand-ing the range and context of the string quartet. In 2011, Kronos became the only recipients of both the Polar Music Prize and the Avery Fisher Prize, two of the most prestigious awards given to musi-cians.

CRAiCMORE CELTiC yuLETiDE CELEBRATiON, SATuRDAy, DECEMBER 8, 8 PMCraicmore brings a theatrical touch to its holiday audience. While performing joyful and heartfelt seasonal songs like “I Saw Three Ships,” “The Wassail Song” and “Sleigh Ride,” along with traditional Scot-tish and Irish music, Craicmore traces the roots of some of America’s Christmas traditions to their Celtic origins.

JOHN MCCuTCHEON, FOLKSiNGER, SATuRDAy, JANuARy 19, 8 PMThe Washington Post described John as folk music’s “Rustic Renaissance Man,” a moniker flawed only by its understate-ment. His thirty recordings have garnered every imaginable honor including seven

Grammy nominations. He has produced over twenty albums of other artists, from traditional fiddlers to contemporary singer-songwriters to educational and documentary works.

PEPPiNO D’AGOSTiNO AND DAviD TANNEBAuM- CLASSiC/STEEL GuiTAR, SATuRDAy, FEBRuARy 2, 8 PMThe Classic/Steel concert is a meeting of two worlds. Classical guitarist David Tanenbaum and steel string guitarist Pep-pino D’Agostino. Their initial concert met with stunning success and they devel-oped the project into a Classic/Steel CD, containing a Classic section of Baroque music by Bach and Vivaldi, a Steel section of original acoustic music by Peppino and friends, and a third section, called Classic/Steel, containing music that lies comfort-ably between the two worlds.

LED KAAPANA, HAwAiiAN SLACK GuiTAR MASTER, SATuRDAy, FEBRuARy 16, 8 PMLed Kaapana’s mastery of stringed in-struments, particularly slack key guitar, and his extraordinary baritone and leo ki`eki`e (falsetto) voices, have made him a musical legend. He has been thrill-ing audiences for more than 40 years. With easy-going style and kolohe (rascal) charm, he has built a loyal corps of Led Heads from Brussels to his birthplace on the Big Island of Hawaii. Recognition by his peers earned Led 4 Grammy nomina-tions in his own right and 2 wins on slack key compilations.

GOLDEN BOuGH, A CELTiC ST. PADDy’S DAy CONCERT, SATuRDAy, MARCH 16, 8 PMRooted in the traditional Celtic music of the seven Celtic nations (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, The Isle of Man, French Brittany and Spanish Gali-cia. Backing themselves on an array of acoustic instruments; Celtic harp, guitar, octave-mandolin, mandolin, accordion, violin, penny-whistle and bodhran, they blend their voices in the pristine harmo-nies that have become a Golden Bough trademark.

JANiS iAN: vOiCE OF A GENERATiON, SATuRDAy, MARCH 30, 8 PMWho are the great songwriters in America today? Ask any student of the form, and Janis Ian will be counted among them. The writer of “Jesse,” a song recorded by so many others that few remember Ian wrote it; “Stars,” possibly the best song ever written about the life of a performer, recorded by artists as diverse as Mel Torme and Cher; and the seminal “At Seventeen”, a song that brought her five Grammy nominations (the most any solo female artist had ever garnered) in 1975, and which is now reaching its third generation of listeners. Janis Ian is an American classic and musical genius.

SAN FRANCiSCO OPERA ENSEMBLE, SuNDAy, APRiL 7, 4 PMEach year, a select group of exceptionally gifted singers from Merola Opera Pro-gram is invited to continue their education as Adler Fellows. With Merola partici-pants selected from a pool of over 800 candidates, these young artists represent whom the classical music world can and should expect to see on celebrated opera house stages throughout the world in the very near future.

With Laidlaw’s incisive lyrics and Vitali’s expansive musical arrangements, the duo’s sound has echoes of Simon and Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen, and of course, Dylan himself.
