Shepherdrsquos Message

After Easter we are nearing the season of Pentecost The touch of the Holy Spirit is what all of us must long for In Acts 10 the reading of the last Sunday of April we see that Cornelius asks St Peter ldquoNow we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell usrdquo (Acts 1033) In reply St Peter says ldquoHe commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the deadrdquo (Acts 1042) We must observe that this event takes place quite soon after the Pentecost (Acts 2) This shows the disposition that the preachers and the hearers have to have we pray and long for this disposition in our livesCornelius was touched by the Holy Spirit to hark what was commanded by the Lord Similarly St Peter was touched by the Holy Spirit to announce the Good News What Cornelius asked what Peter replied and what the Holy Spirit inspired were all one and the same thing ie the Good News of Our Lord We see that the announcement of Good News vividly began in the lives of the Apostles from the Pentecost event We clearly see how St Peter was able to lead 3000 people in faith soon after he was lsquotouchedrsquo by the Holy Spirit As we celebrate the third anniversary of our Diocese we must pray as a diocese to receive this lsquotouchrsquo which will propel us to do what the Lord has commanded which is nothing but lsquoannouncing the Good News Every single member of the Diocese old or young must engage in this primary mandate which the Lord has entrusted us with in and through our Diocese I also take this opportunity to remember with gratitude and prayers all those especially my lay brethren who have sincerely dedicated themselves for the building up of Lordrsquos Kingdom Many are the names that come to my mind of those who have committed themselves for the Good News The Lord of Mission shall bless them abundantlyI congratulate the Catechism students who have completed their exams this year I wish them a fruitful year ahead The MCYM is celebrating its Jubilee year this time My blessings to them as wellLet us continue to march ahead hand in hand to be the witnesses of the WordMay God bless you all

Mission Desk

May 6th we celebrated the 3rd birthday of our Diocese As we grow into the fourth year we thank God for all the great blessings that the Almighty has bestowed up on us We also with gratitude look at the new horizons of missionary activity that the fourth year brings to our diocese

Within the last three years we have grown a lot as a missionary diocese There is no doubt about that We were able to propagate plant and nurture our tradition in different states At the same time we are humbled looking at the responsibility that is set before us because what we have done is like collecting the seawater in shells

The annual ritual of observing the birth of our diocese indeed is a great occasion to feel proud of our achievements That should not make us to be reduced into selfy missionaries We should reflect upon something like this We have grown that is true but what are we becoming Growth is not always the criterion to judge lsquobecomingrsquo The eventual evaluation is not based on our growth but on our ldquobecomingrdquo That is why sometime we use the word ldquounbecomingrdquo When one grows but do not become what heshe supposed to be but act and behave contradictory to the ldquobecomingrdquo we use the expression ldquoit is unbecoming of yourdquo The mission diocese as it enters into the fourth year should ask collectively we have grown but what are we becoming

Addressing the anniversary gathering our Bishopji Bishop Barnabas quoted from the speech delivered by the Servant God Mar Ivanios at the first Punaraikyam anniversary in 1931 Sept 30 ldquoPunaraikyam has brought many challenges and difficulties We were privileged to experience a little of the suffering of the first century Christians we are confronted with many financial difficulties but I believe that all the persons who are reunited to the catholic church irrespective of men and women have already become missionariesrdquo

Krupa NidhanThe growth the first year of Punaraikyam was not numerically so big but what they have become gave them immense joy They had become missionaries The first communities of the Punaraikyam movement took the spirit of Punaraikyam forward What followed was a spirited peoplersquos movement They spoke to one another families gathered families and neighborhood gathered neighborhood Within the family gatherings parishes and informal gatherings ldquocatholica yogamrsquos were held Those yogams were the cradle of missionary activities where the Malankara catholic began to be propagated planted and nurtured The first year communities of Punaraikyam were missionary communities The following two years Mar Ivanios was not in the picture He was away to meet Holy Father On his return he witnessed a huge leap in the Punaraikam movement The one-year-old community had become missionaries and kept the momentum going

On the day of anniversary our beloved Bishopji was thinking aloud together with us He was saying ldquoI am happy and I thank God for all the visible growth that he has given to us But have we become missionariesrdquo Can I say that all Gurgaon dioceses have become all its faithful have become all its communities have become missionaries I would be happy when we all become missionaries when each member of the diocese become missionaries and take the momentum forward even in my absencerdquo

When every member of the diocese feels that we have become a missionary diocese then the people of God together will take the momentum ahead Whether bishop is there or not the missionary activity will continue The missionary zeal that spreads and permeates in the family gatherings in the parish meetings in the pitruvedi and matruvedi activities youth and children participations will take the missionary goal of the Gurgaon diocese to new horizons Then we not only grow as a mission diocese but also we become a mission diocese

My dear fellow missionaries when I address you in this way I do not address the specific appointed ldquomissionariesrdquo but I address all of you every member of the diocese of Gurgaon We are still in

Krupa Nidhanthe season of Easter waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit that makes us all missionaries to the end of the world We earnestly pray that a new spirit of missionary consciousness will sweep over our life With deep desire to partake in the missionary adventure of the diocese of Gurgaon let us resolve to take concrete steps to support our chief missionary bishop Jacob Mar Barnabas What can we do The possibilities are immense May be in the coming days if god wills we shall have more discussion together I like to discuss with you one practical step to increase our missionary activities and participation in the missionary venture

Can we form a circle of friends called lsquoFriends of Missionrdquo It is a circle of well-wishers and benefactors those who take part in the missionary spirit of the Gurgaon diocese and support or willing to do something to support its mission activities

How do we go about it By Godrsquos providence we are a slice of the Malankara Catholic Church That is to say practically faithful from every Malankara dioceses and parishes are part of the community of the Gurgaon diocese It is a great opportunity and blessing that we can steer the entire Malankara church to have a renewed mission consciousness

The mission activities have two dimensions One is going to the fresh fields to evangelize and plant churches The second is to re-evangelize the existing communities with missionary zeal so that they participate in the missionary activities of the church with renewed interest and awareness When Servant of God Mar Ivanios called the reunited persons as missionaries he meant both these dimensions Servant of God opened up the church to the vijatiya mission as well as kindling the missionary spirit of the reunited community within themselves The lsquofriends of missionrsquo venture is aimed at increasing the missionary consciousness within the Malankara church which we all had in the formative years of our Church The missionaries of Gurgaon diocese has significant role to play to re-kindle the missionary fire in the church as whole

Krupa NidhanWhat can we concretely do The faithful of the Gurgaon diocese take initiative to form small mission groups in their respective parishes in Kerala through the help and support of their friends relatives and acquaintance For example the faithful from the Batheri diocese takes lead to form lsquofriends of missionrsquo in the Batheri diocese We begin it by starting a lsquofriends of missionrsquo in a parish where we feel comfortable and have access to at least a few dedicated faithful That is to say three five or ten persons from a particular parish will explore possibilities and form lsquofriends of missionrsquo in their parish as a lay movement The lsquofriends of missionrsquo group will function as mission supporters of Malankara mission activities carried out through the instrumentality of the Gurgaon diocese They gather regularly to pray for mission and discusses about the mission and look for ways and means to support it through their direct involvement or through their instrumentality They take lead to conduct mission awareness program through ldquocatholicayogamrdquo prayer adoration etc If they like our bishop to address and join in those discussions then they create a situation where bishop can interact with them Other fathers and I will be happy to be part of your adventuresI know that any new beginning will have a negative feeling attached to it The Marian question is there always ldquoHow can this berdquo But believe that the spirit of the Lord will come upon our endeavors Let us positively approach it It will be an instrument of great blessing upon our Church I would like to hear from all of you regarding it It is not a parish based activity but diocese level activity where faithful of a parish in Kerala who are part of the Gurgaon diocese explore the possibility of increasing the mission zeal in that parish That is to say a core group in the Gurgaon diocese can comprise members from different zonesparishes of our diocese The missionary involvement of each family is very important Those who like to take a lead to form a lsquofriendsrsquo of missionrsquo group please come forward to discuss about it You are welcome to talk to me Let us together become a unique missionary diocese in the Catholic Church where every family is a missionary family every person is a missionary doing their part in the mission of the Malankara Catholic Church

JasolaCatechism Directorrsquos Visit amp meeting with MCCLOn 29th April 2018 Rev Fr Jinto John the Diocesan Director of Catechism amp MCCL St John Chrysostom Diocese of Gurgaon had visited St Jude MCCL amp Catechism Jasola Fr Jinto had come along with our vicar Rev Fr Visakh Scariah for a surprise visit and to offer Holy Mass The main celebrant of the Holy Mass was Fr Jinto After the mass during the announcements Fr Jinto declared the Catechism result with the list of Diocese level rank holders for the academic year 2017-18 Thereafter Fr Visakh Scariah Director of Catechism amp MCCL Jasola declared the catechism result of our parish which was followed by a Parents-teachers-director meeting along with the respective students Fr Visakh presented rosaries to the students who had obtained good marks for their encouragement All this was followed by MCCL General Body Meeting In which Fr Jinto met all the MCCL members he gave a briefing class about MCCL to all the children where he made them understand what catechism amp MCCL are all about He gave a brief note on responsibilities to be performed by the office bearers He rejuvenated the MCCL members for the upcoming year 2018-19 by helping children understand how children can plan a new action plan for the year 2018-19 He also spoke on how MCCL members can be a helping hand to the mission stations of Gurgaon diocese During the meeting Ms Rishita R Varghese was elected as MCCL Treasurer for the year 2018-19 This meeting had ended as a retreat for the children to work for the year 2018-19 in a positive manner

M C C L Jasola had i n i t i a t e d a charity d r i v e among the M C C L members a n d Catechism

department for their Mansarover Park slum brothers and sisters MCCL members had executed their charity programme by dividing the children amp teachers geographically into six groups with an area leader to coordinate amp collect the small contributions from them in every possible way Children amp teachers contributed to it in both cash amp kind Childrens even contributed to it even by praying them Children helped in by contributing bags (schoolbags) stationeries (pen pencils colors pencil box notebooks registers geometry box erasers etc) clothes uniforms food materials and so on and so forth Everyone actively took part in it even by collecting materials from their friends relatives and neighborhood On 6th May 2018 MCCL members initiated their charity drive by handing over their contributions to Rev Fr Visakh Scariah after the Holy Mass This was a good initiative for the Catechism department for it helped to imbibe good values of love and charity in each child from class 1st ndash 12th From childrenrsquos to teachers to parents everyone took part in it in their small ways Efforts of MCCL executive members amp Area leaders are appreciable in it

A befitting farewell was given to Rev Fr Monson Kuriakose OIC Asst Vicar who has been transferred as the Vocation Promoter of Navajyoti Province in Bethany Ashram Thiruvalla on 4th February after the Holy Mass for which he was the main celebrant

The day was special and unique in many ways

Transfer of Sr Ruby DM and Joining of Sr Rose John DMSr Ruby DM got transfered from Manasarovar Park to Punjab Province She was the Assistant Project Co-Ordinator of our Non Formal Education Centre Manasarovar Park from 2014 October to 2018 April She was very actively and sincerely involved in the programme throughout these years and Prachodana family extends sincere gratitude and appreciation for all the support and help that Rev Sr Ruby has provided to us A farewell was given to Rev Sr Ruby on 24th April 2018 at the convent Rev Sr Rose John DM joined as the new Asst Cordinator of the centre She has served many of our centres by doing social service in places like Jammu Punjab Delhi etc Prachodana gives Rev Sr Rose John a warm welcome to the centreFire breaks out at Manasarovar Park Slums and support is being given by PrachodanaThe slums of Manasarovar Park were gutted in fire on 23rd April 2018 and everything that existed was burnt down It destroyed many shanties by leaving people homeless A six-year-old girl was killed in the fire as well There are 275 families residing in this slum and 211 residents of the slum have lost all their possessions and have nothing left to rebuild it Prachodana has been working in the area for 4 years through our Non Formal Education Project and have built a special relationship with the residents Hence it is more important that Prachodana supports them in this time of utmost need Prachoidana was already providing them help with education clothes medicine and mid day meals Prachodana has already started helping them by distributing food clothes and bag kits which include all the study materials Womenrsquos Day celebration at Non Formal Education Centres PrachodanaPrachodana staff and children celebrated International Womens day at Nebsarai and Manasarovar Park Non Formal Education Centres on March 8 2018 It was celebrated with lots of enthusiasm The children of the Learning centre had many educational activities to showcase including songs speeches dance drawings etc Various competitions were held on the same day and prizes were distributed
