Teachers’ Notes

Notes on activities

Fill in the missing markings – Activity for Marwell (Tropical World) This activity requires the children to spot particular animals in Tropical World and fill in their patterns and markings on the provided sheet. An extension to this activity would be to get the children to describe why the animals may have particular markings. Are they camouflaged? Or is it to show they are poisonous?

Activity on rainforest animals and what they eat This activity requires pupils to look out for rainforest animals at Marwell and think about what they eat (the animals are located on the map provided). They will need to choose 3 rainforest animals and draw a picture of them in the photo frames, with a tasty menu in the box next to it. There are signs at each enclosure to give the children some clues, and one example has been completed for them.

Learning Objective Learning Outcomes

• To know the purpose of the patterns and markings (camouflage, warning)

• To know what types of food rainforest animals eat

All children will be able to:

• Describe the patterns of some rainforest animals

• Illustrate their observations of the animal markings

• List foods different rainforest animals might eat
