CBCI DELEGATION CALLS ON THE PRESIDENT OF INDIA

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India's delegation, led

by its President His Eminence Cardinal Oswald Gracias called on

Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the new President of India at Rashtrapati

Bhavan.

The Hon'ble President said that he appreciated very much

this gesture of good-will from the part of the Catholic Church. The

President also observed that Christianity from its very beginning

had strong roots in India. Shri Pranab Mukherjee expressed his deep

esteem for the great service the Church is rendering to the nation in

the f ield of education and health care. He was very

appreciative of the work that has been done in rural areas of India.

YEAR OF FAITHRespected and dear brother-priests, religious and laity,

One of the few and famous and enduring slogans from World War IIwas coined by an Army Chaplain in the Philippines, namely: "Thereare no atheists in foxholes."

Faith is a leap into darkness in order to see light.

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, through his Apostolic Letter PortaFidei (the "Door of Faith") dated October 11, 2011 has proclaimed aYear of Faith. The Year of Faith will begin on October 11, 2012 andwill end on November 24, 2013.

The Year of Faith is meant to confirm our faith in Christ and torevive it where it does not or has become dim.

Faith in Christ will help us see the invisible, believe the incredible andreceive the impossible.

My company has a plan for the next one hundred years, butmy church hasn't given a thought to what it will do next year.

02. Last year we were in the 8th place in the MISSION SUNDAYCOLLECTIONS, 7th place in the HOLY CHILDHOOD COLLECTIONSand 5th place in ST. PETER THE APOSTLE COLLECTIONS. We wouldlike to come to the FIRST PLACE in all the collections. So please mayI request you to contribute more this year. I appreciate your efforts thatyou had taken last year to bring the collections to this level.

03. As you all know that the - isto be established in every parish of our diocese. The RegionalSecretary and the National Director are insisting much on this. SALIENT POINTS OF THE SENATE MEETINGHELD ON 09.07.2012

1. Pocket money for the retired priests was discussed and the same wouldbe discussed in the financial committee meeting.

2. The problem of Catholic people going to the Pentecostal prayermeetings and mushrooming of the different sects in our diocesewas discussed in detail. It was insisted that the pastors shouldrelate themselves with the sheep especially when they are sick andwhen they face great difficulties like death in their family.

3. It was insisted that the Catholics should be helped encounter the personof Jesus Christ, experience him and become real disciples of Jesus.

4. The house was of the opinion that instead of using apologetic andopposing methods against the Pentecostal groups, the Catholics shouldwin them over by their Christ like lives and witness.

5. It was insisted that Catechism should be taught not only using booksbut also making use of biblical videos and lives of Saints.

6. It was suggested that the pastors should visit every house in the parish,know the names and the problems of the people and relate with themintimately especially through 'Anbiams.'

7. It was suggested that the pastors should motivate the people to maketheir contribution voluntarily.

8. It was suggested that all the substations should have chapels.

9. The timely steps taken to solve the problems facing in the Sacred HeartNursing College were communicated to the house.

10. Rev. Sisters of the Congregation of Jesus have started a convent atMuthupillaimandapam.

11. The house wished that "The Year of Faith" should be anotherPentecostal experience of evangelization in our diocese.
