Relationships & Being HumanWhat makes a good enough life for us? I believe our self-development, (who we are as adults),is shaped and influenced in context with others and ourenvironment. Human growth and potential does notarise from being completely separate.

Through a positive relationship, people can form, maintain and grow a healthy, balanced view of themselves.I recognise with these personal strengths to draw on, creativity and self-direction flourishes, alongside a greaterability to make sense of and resolve any internal or interpersonal conflicts.

Sadly, as with any relationship, when poor or no contactis experienced, psychological distress occurs. In thiscase, external judgements or conditions are instilled, so a

person is left feeling they need to comply to gain ‘value’,resulting in a false idea of self. With this diminished sense, needs are not met and denied or split off. Instead, peoplesurvive with adapted defences and false patterns of relating to self and others. This can conclude in lack ofself-worth/esteem, anxiety, depression, fear of relationships and lack of direction.

Life does not have to remain like this…

At the heart of my therapy, I see developing and maintaining a solid, respectful supportive relationship withpeople as the main ingredient for personal change. Working with internal and external senses, with genuineacceptance, understanding and healing dialogue, awareness grows and defences and personal patterns areunderstood and reduced in the here and now, for a moreauthentic way of being in life. mP weLComes Lutterworthmuseum’s new ADDitionmember of Parliament for south Leicestershire, Alberto Costa mP, haswelcomed Lutterworth museum’s ‘excellent’ new installation of a 77 yearold world war two Fighter Plane engine, recovered from a downedplane during the ‘Battle of Britain’ in 1940.

e engine is from a Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 (p3554) that was shotdown over Swanage during the Battle of Britain in 1940. e Hurricane, which sustained heavy fire from a Messerschmidt Bf 109s during the battle, was able to return to within a few miles of an RAF base before the pilotbaled out uninjured, while the plane itself crashed into a field nearby.*

Mr Costa said, “I was delighted to see the World War Two plane enginetaking pride of place in Lutterworth’s brilliant museum. e town of Lutterworth has a veryproud aviation history with Sir Frank Whittle’s association to the area and this incredible piece of history is a very welcome andparticularly interesting addition”.

e Curator of Lutterworth Museum MrGeoff Smith added, “I was very pleased Albertowas able to come by and see the museum’s newaddition. e engine was recovered from theHurricane which was part of 607 Squadron fromTangmere and the pilot of the plane was shot atby a noted German Fighter ‘Ace’, Helmut Wick, who was one of the highest scoring German pilots during the Battle of Britain”.

Mr Costa concluded, “I was hugely surprisedby the Hurricane engine’s remarkable condition, despite being shot down and crashing in a fieldover 70 years ago, it’s in incredible shape. I wouldencourage all constituents to visit the museumin Lutterworth to see this excellent historical artefact, I’m sure it’s an addition that will both interest and enlighten people for many years tocome”.

Everyone knows what a ‘Will’ is (even if they don’t have one) and mostpeople understand that ‘Probate’ refersto the process of dealing with someone’s bank accounts, property andother affairs upon death. In this article, we focus on a lesser-known areaof Private Client law that impacts most people:

Trusts. It’s a common misconceptionthat Trusts are for the wealthy: the super-rich who set up ‘Trust Funds’ fortheir privileged children. In reality,Trusts are useful for a whole range ofpeople in lots of different ways.

Let’s say, for example, you work reallyhard during your lifetime and build up

some assets. You’d like to pass these assets to your children and grandchildren but you’re worried about their choice of partner(s) ortheir generous spending habits.

e last thing youmay want to see isyour hard-earned cashbeing spent frivolouslyor getting sucked into resolving a relationship break-up.A Trust may be the answer. Similarly, youmight be worriedabout inheritance tax:you don’t want yourassets being taxedwhen you die, leavingeverything to the children only for themto be taxed again when they die. A Trust may be the answer.

ere are a variety of Trusts available to help most people protecttheir assets for the future.

To find out more about how a Trust may be the answer for you or totalk about Wills, Probate and Powers of Attorney, please contact JemalDeo on 01455 243777. Alternatively if you’re in the area, why not popin to see if we can help: you can find us at 20 High Street, LutterworthLE17 4AD. See advert above.

Magnification & IlluminationEdmonds & Slatter Opticians has recently refreshed its range of magnifiers and supporting products from leading manufacturer Eschenbach. This, along with the recent relaunch of their Home Eye Testing service, continues their mission to makegood vision accessible to all.For some people, the deterioration of their sight may have reached a point that no

matter what type of spectacles are worn, a full and clear visual correction is no longerpossible. Nowadays a good quality of life is still available for people who have limitingconditions such as macular degeneration or cataracts. By combining spectacles with agood quality visual aid, those affected can often retain their visual freedom for far longerthan they would have otherwise.

Magnifiers and visual aids are no longer restricted to the heavy Sherlock Holmes stylespy glasses they once were and if your hands are not as steady as they once were, suitable aids are also available. The Powerlux magnifier is designed to be held like a computer mouse and moved

gently across the page. The award winning design is suitable for left or right handed people with the specially designed shape giving comfort and ease of use.The Scribolux is the only illuminated stand magnifier sold in the UK designed

specifically with writing in mind. It has a large viewing area underthe stand mounted lens, perfect for small writing tasks such aswriting postcards to friends and family or completing the dailycrossword. Another problem for some patients is difficulty reading subtitles

or watching quiz shows. Eschenbach's MaxTV Clip is a clip-onspectacle magnifier designed specifically for TV viewing. TheMaxTV is clipped on to your prescription pairof spectacles effectively doubling the size ofyour TV screen, allowing you to watch yourfavourite shows at a comfortable viewing distance. It can also be used at sporting events, cinema, theatre, bird watching or any other activity that requires magnification. These are just a taster of Edmonds &

Slatter’s new range of low vision aids which includes illuminated pocket magnifiers andeven a high quality LED reading lamp. Clarity ofvision can also be vastly improved by something as small and simple as illumination! Please contact Edmonds & Slatter Opticans formore information.

The Enterprise CentreAer 12 years as part of Lutterworth College, theenterprise Centre is now a fully independentCharity and an alternative learning provider withcharitable status. A self contained, well equippedfacility it provides the opportunity to develop awide range of practical skills in a supportive andpositive environment for students in key stage 2- 4 throughout the neighbouring areas. we havealways had a strong connection with the enterprise Centre with a rotarian and her husband working with students in the horticultural section. ree members of the Lutterworth rotary Club agreed to becometrustees and provide a voluntary service.

Specialist teaching enables a different workingenvironment where students can build self esteemthrough success in practical subjects such as woodworking, pc maintenance, arts and cras, hand care, horticulture and wallpapering.

ere was a need for a safe, enclosed, outsidearea for students to relax and chill out in theirbreak times. is had not been necessary previously as students were transported to andfrom the College. Students also helped to put together a wooden table and combined benchusing the tools provided. ese tools are a legacyfor future students and people from the Community who will be using the premises forvarious courses.

Lutterworth Rotary Club applied for and received a matched District Foundation grant toprovide this.

Rotarian Bernard Johnson constructed twowooden fences to complete this area and saved aconsiderable amount through nil labour costs. Rotarian Hugh Robertson Smith provided decking.Students put together the large round table and

benches which encouraged their woodworkingskills.

We have strong ties with e Sir Frank WhittleStudio School and Yvette of the Engineering Department expertly laser etched a teak sign inrecognition of Rotary’s contribution to the Enterprise Centre. e Sir Frank Whittle SchoolDeputy Head Teacher Rotarian John Redmond wrotequite eloquently about our partnership with them asfollows: e Sir Frank Whittle Studio School, e Rotary Club of Lutterworth & e Rotary Club ofLutterworth Wycliffe – a Partnership.

“e model of Rotary engagement is one whichcould be replicated at all other Studio Schools, much to the benefit of those other students”.
