As part of the Children’s Eye Health Initiative, the 60 th Teachers’ Training Program for school teachers from Kothur mandal, Rangareddy District on 23 November 2017 was supported by Lavelle Fund for the Blind Inc. 1709 teachers have been trained thus far in Nirmal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Adilabad, Kumarambheem, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar districts of Telangana. e 53 rd Indian Contact Lens Program (ICLEP), 24-26 November 2017, in association with Bausch + Lomb had 81 delegates from across India and Kenya. The one-of-its-kind Bug Busters: Corneal Infection Workshop, 28-29 October 2017, comprising cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, discussions on uncommon corneal infections and challenging case-based scenarios, ulcer rounds, and microbiological skill transfer sessions, had 163 delegates from across the country.

The Indian Oil Centre for Rural Eye Health (IO-CREH) at LVPEI Bhubaneswar organized a workshop on Standard Protocols for Operation Theatres (SPOT), 3-4 November 2017. It was supported by VISION 2020: The Right to Sight - India and Operation Eyesight Universal.

The 6th Exit Competency Training program in Oculoplasty for first year comprehensive fellows across the LVPEI network was organized on 5 November 2017 at GMR Varalakshmi Campus, Visakhapatnam.

A Teachers’ Training program on how to provide efficient care to children with visual impairment in mainstream schools was organized on 11 November 2017 by Sight First – Lions Clubs International Foundation and LVPEI.

Intense Discussions in Cornea with Dr Francis W. Price Jr, Founder and President, Price Vision Group; and Dr Marianne O’ Price, Executive Director, the Cornea Research Foundation of America, Indianapolis, USA, 21-23 November 2017, included advanced keratoplasty techniques, live surgery sessions, guest lectures, clinical rounds, case reports, and cornea grand rounds. #159 Machavaram Vision Centre in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh was inaugurated on 13 November 2017 by Sri J Venkateswarlu,

MPP (Mandal Praja Parishad, Machavaram). Other dignitaries included Smt T Jayakumari, Sarpanch; Sri A Gopaiah, former Sarpanch; Sri Ch Narasimha Rao, MPTC; and Sri P Sambasiva Rao, Market Yard Director, Machavaram. Capital support for the centre is by OneSight Foundation.

InaugurationsEvents, Visitors & UpdatesAt the India Today Conclave ‘Next 2017’ hosted at New Delhi, 7 November 2017, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella invited Anthony Vipin Das on stage to talk about how LVPEI is using mixed reality and artificial intelligence in medical diagnosis, predictive analysis and in Ophthalmic education for studying eye anatomy.

With a month to go yet for close of year 2017, Ramayamma International Eye Bank has set yet another record with 4000+ corneal tissues distributed across India, including at LVPEI.

An awareness rally was organized by the Nava Bharat Eye Centre in Paloncha, Khammam, District, to mark the World Diabetes Day on 14 November 2017, with students from KLR Degree College and National Degree College participating.

Children’s Eye Care Week, 7-14 November 2017, was marked with awareness walk, children’s eye screening programs, parent-and-child education forum, drawing competition, etc, organized along the theme Amblyopia and Squint. The finale on 14th November included interactive talks by specialists besides entertainment for the children.

LVPEI’s Kallam Anji Reddy Campus, Hyderabad received re-accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH).

GMR Varalakshmi campus, Visakhapatnam organized an Eye Awareness Talk for the students of Gayatri Vidya Nilayam School on 30 October 2017.

Institute for Vision Rehabilitation held its 20th Integrated Fun Camp on the 25 November 2017 at Escape Water Park. It had 460 participants including the visually impaired, their families, LVPEI staff and volunteers and also volunteers from Synchrony Financial - the funding partner.

A group of 30 students from Singapore Management University visited LVPEI on 10th November as part of their MBA Executive Exchange program. The visit was coordinated by the ISB.

A group of 10 MLAs (Member of Legislative Assembly) from Odisha visited LVPEI on 11th

November to understand the Institute’s various initiatives, specifically Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).
