    Probationary Lecture # 3:

    The Superficial Self

Self is a commonly misunderstood concept. In regards to this weare speaking not of the elevated being or expressed will, but rather theself that is commonly referred to or may be addressed otherwise asthe ego. It is recognized within psychology that the ego is not aninnate feature of the mind. In reality it is better to perceive it as acurrier at best transferring information back into higher consciousnessand retained information and projecting out response. It is little morethen a defense mechanism or animated response pattern to outerstimuli.

What is outwardly and most commonly understood to be who weare is nothing more then a series of gestures and proclivities that havebeen manifested out of previous experience. ll of that which you arewithin your casual existence can ultimately be reduced down to habit.

!our habits are what identify you leading to expectations and otherattributions that allow others to recognize you.

In our modern world it is consistency that is most highly valued. !our ability to continually meet expectations of you as an individual isyour greatest treasure in this world. We use words like untrustworthyor fickle, and other references that have insulting connotations torespond with when someone changes. "hange in and of itself issomething that is innately feared by the commonality andprogrammed into us as being bad through these linguistic devices andmany other tools used by society to maintain its #uo.

"hange is not the enemy though, nor is it wrong. $ature doesn%tsleep. &ven in darkness if one turns an ear to the wild they can hearthe death cries of animals, the screeches of insects desiringfornication, the world moving. &ven in death the process doesn%t ceaseas insects and animals utilize the materials of the body to sustainthemselves until they can be eaten as well. "hange is a constant andprevailing force within all that we know yet strive to deny.

'he nature of the (eft )and *ath is that of change. It throws theinitiate into the all embracing hands of the chaos and demands thatthey struggle or succumb. We as servants of this *ath will throw you tothem as well. We seek of you change, to see the face of our mother

within your eyes and know that you are one of us, one without fear. +orthis to be possible though you must accept that who and what you areat this beginning is false.

'he principle or what may be called the primer of personal

change is rather simple. s it has already been said who it is that atleast others believe you to be may be reduced in the end to simplyhabit. !ou can be reduced in the measure of things as far as thecommonality is concerned merely to behavior. What this means then isif one were capable of changing their behavior, in the scheme of thingsas far as the commonality is concerned, they will change themselves.

Who you are is behavior. ehavior is a conglomeration of habits.)abits are the repetition of actions. ctions are #uite simply are thosethings which we do. 'herefore if one were to change their actions theywould invariably change their habits, which would change their

behavior, which would change who they are. In that way then we cansee the sense in what is not common, that of ourselves we canmanifest many that are different. We can create who we are ratherthen accept who we have been created to be.

'his resolves ultimate authority in regards to the manifest self tobe a matter of individual control and decision. 'he typical reason thatthis is not a commonly accepted notion is fear. 'he commonality isafraid already of change, but secondarily it is afraid of responsibility.

'hey seek to distance themselves from causality while acceptingresult, if beneficial, to be of their own making. 'he idea that they are

the cause of failure, or that their very being and all its flaws anddeficiencies they have also caused, terrifies them.

!our ego though is the originator of fear. It is a self defensemechanism manifested for a singularity of purpose and thereforecontrollable. "ontrol of ego will result in control of its automatedresponses as well invariably. +irst though it is necessary to recognize itfor what it really is. -nowledge of its nature will give you power over itas a construct. 'he possibilities after this knowledge is truly acceptedare staggering, but they will not frighten you if you are prepared.
