l5b wave cut platforms
TRANSCRIPT
A wave cut platform is made at a place where there is a cliff next to the sea.
Destructive waves slowly erodes the cliff by Attrition and Hydraulic Action
1
High Tide
Low Tide
Attrition occurs between high and low
tide- rocks are hurled at the base of
the cliff.
2
Wave Cut Notch
Eroded material is
now available to take part in Attrition.
Cliff is undercut by hydraulic
action, leaving it unstable. This
leaves a cave.
Nothing is supporting the cliff above.
3
Cliff retreats
Wave Cut Platform- left
exposed.
Wave Cut Notch
The process of Attrition will
continue…
Cliff is unstable, gravity
forces it to
collapse.
4
Cliff retreat continues over
time
Wave Cut Platform gets bigger, is
eroded smooth by Abrasion.
