– Implement “content neutrality”● US Supreme Court, Reed v Gilbert● If you have to read the sign to determine how to regulate, it is
not content neutral
– No code existed for junction commercial and light industrial zones● Sign code was revised for all zoning districts● After months of conversation the Planning Commission unanimously
recommended new sign code
– However, Commissioners believe the code can be further improved● City Council approved proposed sign code and tasked Planning
Commission develop a code revision

● Allowed in all zones: private property and public right-of-way● Permit not required, however
– A city-issued label required– Label identifies responsible person and the sign expiration date– Valid for 90 days & renewable for an additional 90 days
● Temporary signs shall not be:
– Internally or externally lit, – Larger than 4 ft2 or taller than 3 ft– Located on a sidewalk, in travel portion of right-of-way, or traffic
round-about, or– Have no more than two readable faces
● Public Works may remove and discard signs without a city approvedlabel and expired, damaged, or dilapidated signs
