Sunday, 3 December at 3:00 p.m. LUI Enterprises, 2017 La «Dante» T he Dante Alighieri Society, named after the great poet and father of the Italian language, Dante Alighieri (1265- 1321), was founded in Rome, in 1889. The poet Giosuè Carducci was the foremost inspirer. The Edmonton Committee was estblished in 1961 by Sabatino Roncucci and, it is one of the 406 active committees throughout the world. Its main objective is to promote the Italian language and culture in Edmonton and Alberta. In order to reach the objective above, the Dante Alghieri Society established a school of Italian Language and Culture in 1962. The reasons why students attend the Dante Alighieri School vary: trip to Italy, vacation, links of friendship within the Italian community, cutural interests, music, arts, food, fashion, business, etc… The work of Dante Alighieri Society of Edmonton is greatly appretiated by Canadian Authorities. The Dante Alighieri Society Of Edmonton The Dante Alighieri Society of Edmonton intends to pursue its obejective for the future, so that all Edmontonians and Albertans may enjoy the beauty and the richness of Italian Culture and Language in a multicultural environment, and be exposed to different cultures and languages spoken in Alberta, other than Italian . At the present the school offers 13 courses ranging from Pre-school to adults. In the range are also included three credit courses approved by the Alberta Education. The Dante Alighieri Society, named after the great poet and father of the Italian

Concert pianist, composer and con-ductor, Emilio DE mErcato holds degrees in piano and composition from the Conservatory of Music “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan, Italy. He pursued postgraduate studies in piano performance at the Academy “Marziali” in Seveso (Milan) and at the Musik Hochschule in Bern, Switzerland. He has participated in masterclasses around Europe and US with renowned musicians such as Bruno Canino, Lazar Berman, Alexis Weissenberg, William Grant Naboré, Jerome Rose, Fou Ts’ong, Alexander Lonquich, Louis Lortie, at institutions such as Mozarte-um Salzburg, Lake Como Piano Academy, École Normale Paris, Mannes College of Music in New York. In 1997 he received a full scholarship at the summer courses held by the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Casalmaggiore, Italy. Since his move to Canada in 2012 he has been extensively performing in Edmonton, across the province and beyond. He has performed at

Prairie Regional College. In July 2017 he was the artistic director of the first Glenn Gould Piano Fes-tival in Edmonton, officially en-dorsed by the Glenn Gould Estate of Toronto. In 2016 he conducted “Symphony Paradiso” at Festival Place, Sherwood Park, perform-ing works by Oscar-winner Ennio Morricone. In the same year he organized and performed as pia-nist and conductor, “Symphony of Hope” benefit concert for Fort Mc-Murray and Canadian Red Cross at Royal Alberta Museum. Featured on CityTV, CKUA Radio, CBC Radio, CTV Alberta Primetime, in 2013 he received the CIFES Award at the closing ceremony of the Ed-monton Verdi Festival of which he was Music Director. Active per-former since the age of nine, with extensive repertoire from baroque to contemporary music, as soloist, with chamber ensembles and with orchestras, across Europe, Asia and North America, he has participat-ed in Festivals around the world. Since 2014 he is the founder and Music Director of the Alberta Symphony Orchestra. As pianist and conduc-tor of the 2015 ASO Premiere Tour, he successfully performed in ten different cities across the province. In 2016 he performed “A Stradivar-ius for the People - Canadian Tour” with concerts in Edmonton (Win-spear Centre for Music), Calgary (Rozsa Centre), Vancouver (Play-house) and Toronto (Casa Loma) with the support of the Consolato Generale of Italy in Vancouver. In March 2017 he performed his first Alberta Piano Tour with concerts in Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Peace River and Canmore, hosting as well a piano masterclass and lecture at Grande

the “Giuseppe Verdi” Concert Hall in Milan performing Beethoven’s “Emperor” Piano Concerto with Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali. In Italy he was the founder and ar-tistic director of the concert series “Musica in Cripta” directing seven editions until 2015, founder and di-rector of the Arts of Sounds Inter-national School of Music, founder and president of the Art of Sounds Music Association. In 2007 he was a recipient of the Pintadera Award Recognition with the following ac-knowledgement: “With his music, performed with outstanding tech-nique combined with very unique and very personal sensitivity, he has shone and keeps on shining our community over all the nations where he performs”. He is Pia-no Faculty member at MacEwan University Conservatory of Music and piano instructor at Giovanni School of Music. Last August 1st he was featured and performed at the 63rd Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago Puccini, Viareggio, Ita-ly. On November 17, 2017 he will

be pianist and conductor of Canada 150 Tribute to Glenn Gould at Win-spear Centre for Music, leading 55-piece Alberta Symphony Orchestra, in prestigious partnership with Toronto Symphony Orchestra and with the support of Canadian Her-itage.
