Theme: “LIVE THE ANIMO THROUGH FAITH, SERVICE AND COMMUNION”

Reading: Matthew 10:1-7

And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and

to heal every disease and every infirmity. The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is

called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zeb'edee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the

Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent out, charging them, "Go nowhere

among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the

house of Israel. And preach as you go, saying, `The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'

Reflection: Jesus wanted ordinary people who could take an assignment and do it extraordinarily well. He chose these men, not for what they were, but for what they would be capable of becoming under his direction and power.

When the Lord calls us to serve, we must not think we have nothing or very little to offer. The Lord takes what

ordinary people, like us, can offer and uses it for greatness in his kingdom. Do you believe that God wants to

work in and through you for his glory?

Prayer: "Lord Jesus, you have chosen me to be your disciple. Take and use what I can offer, however meager it may

seem, for the greater glory of your name."

Lasallian Core Value: SERVICE

Graduate Attribute: Contributes to Society De La Salle’s schools prepared the students for Christian life within a particular society. Their education included whatever was necessary for them to be successful in that society and whatever was necessary for them to live as mature Christians. The curriculum addressed the practical needs and realistic options of the students. For De La Salle had an ability to combine a deep appreciation for God and a deep understanding of God’s world. He did not avoid the practical, but embraced it.

The Lasallian is envisioned as one who contributes to society. He is able to do so because the school has equipped him with the skills to participate meaningfully in that society. The practical orientation of the Lasallian school is not to be inter-preted as one that espouses a way that is easy and convenient or even one that condones the ills of society. The practical orientation of the Lasallian is rather one that seeks to prepare young people for responsible participation in the world of work, family and community.

No Turning Left!

John uses the roads in Math City to get from the Hotel to Home as fast as possible. However, his car cannot turn left! The travel time (in minutes) between intersections in Math City is shown. How long does John take to get from Hotel to Home?

Know the answer? Write it on ¼ sheet of paper with your complete name and grade/year & section. Drop boxes are located at GS and HS LRCs. Answer to previous Math Bits: “N”

What Are Learning Disabilities?

Learning disabilities are problems that affect the brain's ability to receive, process,

analyze, or store information. These problems can make it difficult for a student to learn as

quickly as someone who isn't affected by learning disabilities. There are many kinds of learning

disabilities. Most students affected by them have more than one kind. Certain kinds of learning

disabilities can interfere with a person's ability to concentrate or focus and can cause someone's mind

to wander too much. Other learning disabilities can make it difficult for a student to read, write, spell, or

solve math problems.

What Are the Signs of Learning Disabilities?

You can't tell by looking that a person has a learning disability, which can make learning disabilities

hard to diagnose. Learning disabilities usually first show up when a person has difficulty speaking,

reading, writing, figuring out a math problem, communicating with a parent, or paying attention in class.

Some kids' learning disabilities are diagnosed in grade school when a parent or a teacher notices the

kid can't follow directions for a game or is struggling to do work he or she should be able to do easily.

But other kids develop sophisticated ways of covering up their learning issues, so the problem doesn't

get addressed until the teen years when schoolwork — and life — gets more complicated. Most

learning disabilities fall into one of two categories: verbal and nonverbal.
