Trends in resources
• new learning...• new developers: also
(groups of) teachers• digitalisation• smaller entities• need for materials that
teacher can arrange themselves
but: where can we find resources and how?

In the Netherlands
• many sites with many different materials

• But also: a standard for categorising (digital) learning resources based on IEEE Learning Object Metadata (LOM) standard
• Initiative to harvest: Edurep project

state of affairs
• 5 new lists, varying from 4 to 1000 elements
• evaluation:
– teachers, that look for materials
– publishers/suppliers that have to give the metadata
• questions: relevant, useful, complete?
educational resource researchpreliminary results
• Use of materials within a year:– 65% of the time only materials of publishers– 22% of the time in combination with other materials– 14% of the time only other materials
– 70% of the time only paper– 20% a combintation– 10% only digital
• >40% uses an ELO (CMS)
educational resource researchpreliminary results
• Searching for extra materials: 6% daily, 32% weekly, 46% monthly ; 15% (almost) never
• time spend: 30% 5-15 min; 67%: more
• important reason for searching:
– teachers like it
– don’t think that educational methods are sufficient
– want to connect to childrens level and experience
• important criteria: availability and adaptability
• 75% would use a site where an complete overview of publishers materials would be available
• 80% would like a site where an complete overview of additional materials would be available
dilemmas, questions
• will publishers accept the standard?
• will publishers fill-in all fields?
• what is the quality of the metadata?
• what do teachers really need when searching for resources? (role of ELO?)
• when/how will they use them (afraid to let the educational method loose...? time constrains?)
